olkid··on CoinTent: A Sustainable Ad-Free Web
Valid point. I agree.
olkid··on CoinTent: A Sustainable Ad-Free Web
Finding new revenue models is a good idea; one that deserves many attempts.

The internet gives us the ability to discover for ourselves. Broadcasting commercials to everyone is the old method being applied to the new medium.

The amount of tracking on the internet by the advertising industry is damaging to our privacy rights.

It can(does) lead to poor quality content being published on the internet in hopes of more advertising revenue.

I applaud CoinTent for testing their idea.

olkid··on Acidity in atmosphere minimised to preindustrial levels
"Normal rainfall is slightly acidic..." ~ thanks for the info
olkid··on Acidity in atmosphere minimised to preindustrial levels
Agreed. The direction we're trending is good, but isn't that entire range [4.99-5.75] considered "acidic"?
olkid··on Metrics-Driven Development
Similar to what I am reading in Eric Ries' "The Lean Startup". As Ries points out, you have to be careful which metrics are driving development. Only watch metrics that can deliver meaningful insight to help make good business decisions.

Has the "Build, Measure, Learn" development cycle fallen out of favour? Or perhaps, it just applies to a subset of business models.

olkid··on Practical Design: Pitching
Beginning with "What" and "How" is not an effective methodology

- I recommend Simon Sinek's philosophy https://www.startwithwhy.com

- Here's Steve Jobs on marketing Apple's core values https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keCwRdbwNQY

It's your beliefs/values that connect and inspire people. Perhaps, pitching is an exception... but, until I learn differently, I respectfully disagree with the advice in the post.

olkid··on Tips for selling your side project
I'd recommend using https for the sign up form to improve the conversion rate. Some people(like myself) would be more likely to join.

Free certificates available from letsencrypt.org (no affiliation).
