I think that is far to harsh actually.

It has some interesting ideas and architecture.

okeuro49··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
I wish X would allow browsing threads, which is the only reason I use xcancel.

I wouldn't even mind seeing advertisements.

I just don't want to have an X account.

If you have a highly conscientious personality, this is easier said than done.

okeuro49··on Count Binface receives over a quarter of votes in Clacton by-election
Don't be silly, just because there are three right-wing parties, it doesn't mean they map onto that range.

The label "far right" is just used to smear people, rather than something that represents a real group in Britain.

okeuro49··on Bun 1.4 Rust rewrite is not looking good?
Counterpoint:

> Our conclusion is deliberately modest: under the conditions Prisma Compute cares about, the Rust rewrite behaved better than the stable release we had been testing. That was enough to change what we shipped.

okeuro49··on Count Binface receives over a quarter of votes in Clacton by-election
There is no "far right" in the UK -- it's a label that is used to smear people to excuse state failure.

okeuro49··on Burnham is fifth UK PM in four years, now he'll try to buck the trend
Keir Starmer said that the levers of power aren't connected to anything. And he was right.

In particular, the Human Rights Act means that the UK cannot control its border, despite the population repeatedly voting for decreased immigration and stronger borders.

So far, politicians have not wanted to change these structural issues, so they keep on getting removed, as the population becomes ever more enraged, by instances such as this:

"Ahmadi and Alshafe met on a small boat from France arriving in the UK in June 2025, while Alshafe and Al-Danasurt, who arrived in the UK in October 2024, were roommates at the hotel.

The evening before the attack the three got ready at the hotel before getting a bus into Brighton."

okeuro49··on The Night France Saved the British Grid
For forty-eight minutes on the evening of Monday 23 June — a 33°C midsummer Monday — the frequency of Great Britain's electricity grid sat below 49.8 Hz, the boundary of normal operation.
okeuro49··on "Fix" MacBook Neo Cursor Lag: Record 1 Pixel of the Screen Every 10 Seconds
That reminds me a lot of this xkcd comic where a user depends on an application overheating when the space-bar is pressed.

okeuro49··on Bun has an open PR adding shared-memory threads to JavaScriptCore
It looks like quite a lot of analysis went into the rewrite

https://bun.com/bun-unsafe-audit

If the tests pass, then why not accept the rewrite?

An interesting article of Prisma using the rewrite:

okeuro49··on Big Tech is borrowing like never before
Is Google really a critical dependency for android? I've installed Lineage OS before which worked.
okeuro49··on U.S. science is in chaos
> But arbitrary cancellations and delayed disbursements are unprecedented. And justifying them on the basis of politics—prohibiting, for instance, grants that include language referencing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)—was unheard of until now.

It is odd how removal of DEI is framed as being political, when it is the other way round. DEI schemes were deeply political, and depended on who can claim to be the biggest victim.

okeuro49··on Stop Killing Games fails to secure EU law despite 1.3M signatures
> The Commission ... spent virtually all of their time with ... industry lobby groups.

This is how the European Union works.

okeuro49··on Banned book library in a wi-fi smart light bulb
It is the fact that this tool would only be providing minors with these "banned books" that shows a lack of social awareness.

It is the choice of the individual to base their project around these "banned books", which invites this discourse.

okeuro49··on Banned book library in a wi-fi smart light bulb
As expected, the book examples given were not "banned".

They're usually school libraries that are removing books from their collection that contain explicit material, usually at the request of parents.

okeuro49··on To have a moral stance on AI is to be an outcast, and it sucks
The ability to solve maths problems still doesn't mean it is intelligent.

It doesn't know what it is doing.

okeuro49··on To have a moral stance on AI is to be an outcast, and it sucks
Its funny that the article uses Wikipedia as an example, given it is a tool that always needs a caveat: "anyone can edit it, always use the source, never trust it directly."

There are many instances where I have seen Wikipedia have bias, or be misinformation.

AI just needs the caveat that it is not really intelligent, but a very good predictive text machine, which you should always ask to provide citations.

okeuro49··on Ruby for Good
The CoC reminds me a lot of this quote by Sowell:

"...if the answer to the problem is that people should just be virtuous, then there is no problem, because we have known that for thousands of years."

okeuro49··on NTSB pulls docket after AI recreates dead pilots' voices

okeuro49··on Tennessee man jailed 37 days for Trump meme wins settlement after lawsuit
I live in the UK and am citing an article based on Freedom of Information requests.

The UK has a problem with free speech at the moment. This is why the https://freespeechunion.org exists.

okeuro49··on Tennessee man jailed 37 days for Trump meme wins settlement after lawsuit
I don't think so. This is an interview with the German authorities: https://youtu.be/-bMzFDpfDwc
okeuro49··on Tennessee man jailed 37 days for Trump meme wins settlement after lawsuit
In the UK 30 people are arrested a day for social media posts online. Only about 10 percent resulting in convictions.

Police don't face criminal charges for this.

okeuro49··on I returned to AWS and was reminded why I left
When I log into AWS there is a big graph saying "Cost savings" and offers all the different ways to save money.

The idea that AWS is abusive seems a bit much to me. There is Amazon Lightsail for people who prefer pay-monthly upfront costs.
