okasaki··on Using an 8K TV as a Monitor
I use a 4k TV. I've wanted upgrade to 8k for a while, but according to this post AMD on Linux can't do 8k so I guess I'm sticking with my current setup.

My 780M already struggles running GNOME at 4k, so maybe that's for the best.

okasaki··on HTML Form Validation is underused
Flask-WTForms will generate the same validation both client and server-side. Is that not usual?

okasaki··on Your Doctor Won't See You Now–Or Ever Again
Yeah, that will make it much less awkward that nobody showed up on my final hour.

So what do you think these other factors are?
okasaki··on Family medicine is in decline
Nah, a physician assistant is sufficient to escort you to a pod and press a button.
okasaki··on Ibis: Federated Wikipedia alternative
Wikipedia's edit history is public in the same way the Firefox source code is open, in theory only. In practice nobody looks at it because it overwhelming.

What I'm saying is that this purported food safety isn't manifesting itself through superior life expectancy, burden of disease or IQ measurements. Why do you think that is?
okasaki··on Real GDP (purchasing power parity)
My comment is literally asks "how do you measure that?" and then I put out two statistics that you would assume would be correlated with food safety (along with maybe IQ, which China also does better in)
okasaki··on Real GDP (purchasing power parity)
What are you trying to say?
okasaki··on Freenet: A decentralized alternative to world wide web
Interesting that the new freenet is written in rust.

I always thought the worst part of freenet was that it required java.

I haven't used freenet in a long time. Last time I did I'm pretty sure satoshi was posting the og bitcoin releases on the message board (freechat?). Crazy times.

okasaki··on Mother sues AI chatbot company Character.AI, Google over son's suicide
Did you read the article? The kid shot himself with a gun "within seconds" of her taking his phone away.

Why did he have such easy access to a firearm? Why did the mother not know that her child was suicidal?

The c.ai stuff, which I've used, really isn't any more affective than a good book or video game.

This is 100% her fault.

okasaki··on Real GDP (purchasing power parity)
Food safety? How do you measure the effect of that?

Chinese life expectancy is higher and their burden of disease is lower than the US.

okasaki··on Mother sues AI chatbot company Character.AI, Google over son's suicide
IMO she should be in prison for failing to parent.

Where was she when all of this was happening?

okasaki··on Lily Allen Says Her OnlyFans Feet Pictures Make More Money Than Spotify Streams
Just don't post on any other site I guess

> In August 2022, a series of lawsuits were filed which alleged that OnlyFans had bribed employees of Meta to add Instagram accounts of OnlyFans creators who also sold content on OnlyFans' competitor websites to a terrorist blacklist. According to the lawsuits, adult performers including Alana Evans had traffic driven away from their Instagram accounts after being falsely tagged as terror-related, effectively shadow banning them and diminishing their ability to promote their content on rival websites.

okasaki··on Wikipedia article blocked worldwide by Delhi high court
But when the US government orders a Taiwanese company to stop selling chips to a Chinese company that's just fine right?
okasaki··on Wikipedia article blocked worldwide by Delhi high court
Why is following other countries' laws viewed as "abandoning all principles"?

A few days ago Linux removed all Russian maintainers to follow US laws. Has the Linux Foundation abandoned all principles? Should they have fought the US government?

okasaki··on Smartphone buyers meh on AI, care more about battery life
It's great for spooks too. Now they just have to exfiltrate the keywords describing the images instead of the images themselves.

okasaki··on Computer use, a new Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and Claude 3.5 Haiku
I'm not sure it's still the case, but I've had ChatGPT run shell commands. But I don't know what you could do since it's ephemeral, doesn't have internet access or root. Plus I'm sure they have security scanning.
okasaki··on Huawei makes divorce from Android official with HarmonyOS NEXT launch
If you're in the US you should be dodging US spyware not Chinese spyware, since you're living under US power and laws.

okasaki··on India's airline industry in chaos after 90 hoax bomb threats in a week
It seems to me that that would be very difficult to determine in retrospect.

In any case, I think we can agree that militarized police breaching through a door and going in with guns drawn like they're going to assassinate Bin Laden all due to a phone call is dumb and shouldn't happen

They should send a drone to look into the window, or turn one of the dozen devices in each room into a microphone, or perform any kind of other investigation first before they do that.
