oidar··on Anthropic expands partnership with Google and Broadcom for next-gen compute
Doesn't that beat openai in revenue?
oidar··on The underrated benefits of always having oatmeal at lunch
Oatmeal is for breakfast, lentils are for lunch. Here's a good lentil recipe: https://web.archive.org/web/20200309092143/https://www.washi...
oidar··on OpenAI closes funding round at an $852B valuation
>> To finish, I do just sort of straight up hate the idea that we're comparing this moment to the invention of electricity. It's on the face of it absurd.

Do you feel that any technology is comparable in it’s impact?

oidar··on Some uncomfortable truths about AI coding agents
> The fun in the job is not knowing where to place a semicolon.

If a person needs an LLM to figure where an semicolon goes, a LLM is not going to help them code.

oidar··on Don't Wait for Claude
I disagree with this take. I get that LLM produced text is filled with crappy, over the top writing in pretty much all cases, but if a prompter/writer/blogger is using it iteratively, the LLM output is going to be way better than their writing. Also, if a person is using LLMs to write articles, do you really want to see their likely even worse writing?
oidar··on Anthropic: "During peak hours you'll move through session limits faster"
It's absolutely nutso that we (the users) have to guess what the actually limits are. And now they through this into the mix. I love using Claude Code, but if they don't offer some transparency soon re:token limits (other than a status bar), ... I don't know what I'll do, but I will continue to not be happy.
oidar··on Humans welcome (bots must wear name tags)
Not sure I understand how passkeys verify humanity.
oidar··on Passengers who refuse to use headphones can now be kicked off United flights
Bluetooth headphones too?

This is actually a really good response though. Because the act of having a device blaring demonstrates contempt for everyone one around them. It's hard to act in a hateful way to someone who just offered you something for free.

oidar··on Minecraft Source Code Is Interesting
The main issue is sota LLMs can only reason one way - forwards, and can't go back and revise a prior statement. That would remove a whole lot of "it's not this is that" and "the big takeaway here is" and so on. Those kinds of ideas are typically at the beginning of a human writer's output structure. An LLM can't go back and edit the first paragraph, because it has to reason (for whatever that means for LLM) it's way through it to get to the big idea of the paragraph/structure. I haven't played with diffusion text models enough to know if that's a remedy for that kind of output.

When LLMs are good enough to not be detectable, what happens then? They aren't that far away atm, so it's only a matter of time until _everyone_ is assumed to be an LLM.

oidar··on Kagi is contemplating the removal of the assistant from its professional tier
Ultimate user here. I assume this doesn't kill "quick answers" for pro users - which I use frequently when I need a quick summarization. For assistant use directly, I've been thinking about stepping back from ultimate, as I use claude for AI rubber ducking; which works better than all of the LLMs available on assistant.
oidar··on AirPods Max 2
What's the latency on these like for music production?

oidar··on GPT-5.4
context distillation mostly. Agents tend to report success too early if they find something close to what they need for the task. If you are able to shove it in a 1M context, it's impossible for them to give up looking, it's in the context. But for actual implementation, it's not useful at all. They get derailed with too long of a context.
oidar··on MacBook Neo
I'm sure these will sell very well. It will be interesting to see how they compare to the M1. I'm sure Asahi linux folks are really excited about an extra chip set to support.

oidar··on What podcasts are you listening to?
To piggyback on this question, I've been looking for a replacement for - The Dinner Party Download - there's not been a podcast like it since they've moved on. Any suggestions?
oidar··on Show HN: Micasa – track your house from the terminal
Your quotes are great.
oidar··on The future belongs to those who can refute AI, not just generate with AI
Blinking gifs never went out of style, they got slower.
oidar··on Women Mourning the "Deaths" of Their AI Boyfriends
The website is NSFW, but there are no NSFW work images in this article.
oidar··on Qwen3.5: Towards Native Multimodal Agents
How much more do you know about pelicans now than when you first started doing this?
oidar··on AI is going to kill app subscriptions
I think a more apt comparison is "human computers" and live telephone operators.
oidar··on Good Riddance, 4o
From the subreddit I linked in another comment, there did seem to be some "magic" that 4o had for these kinds of "relationships". I'm not sure how much of it is placebo, but there does seem to be a strong preference in that user group.

oidar··on GLM-5 was trained entirely on Huawei chips
“Nvidia wins either way” assumes the game stays the same — but Google, Amazon, and Meta aren’t building custom silicon to beat Nvidia on price, they’re building it to never need Nvidia at all. The moat isn’t the chips, it’s CUDA lock-in, and every major player is racing to break it.
oidar··on I Cut My Google Search Dependence in Half
Would be very interesting to integrate this with Offpunk.
oidar··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2026)
Like a lot of others, I'm working on replacing apps that I use that aren't just perfect for me. So I've been working on a local "Hey.com" replacement that lets me have multiple "feeds", real search and offline use.
oidar··on Software factories and the agentic moment
Is this the black box folks you mentioned?

If you are a huge enterprise, why not?

oidar··on OpenClaw is what Apple intelligence should have been
Some of those connectors are only available on the mac and some only on the iPhone. Like notes is available on the mac, but not on the phone. Vice versa for reminders.
