Is it something you enjoy?
While Whatsapp is still not as big in the US, it's literally the defacto mode of communication in countries like India, Brazil etc. to the point where "Msg me" would automatically mean "Msg me on Whatsapp"
That + the fact that it was tied to your phone number was in my opinion genius. I for a thousand years would not have though too much about Global Market (because I'd be focused on revenue and users in 1st world countries would be generally the ones with spending cash for messaging apps).
1. We want to hire experienced programmers for 500k
2. We don't want to train junior programmers to become senior programmers because they'll leave for BigCo.
3. BigCo. with bigger budgets are stealing such senior employees and somehow it's not fair
I'm still waiting for the "it's satire" post. That said, out of curiosity: why a Github account? If you are that good, and work that hard currently, you'll probably not have time for a Github account that'll land you a job anyway :/
Or are they looking for "branded" devs that work in open source? (because not all companies even allow for open source on stuff you work on)
Electron has made me forget those days! Today, most of the tools I use are available on all platforms and while they do take up a lot more ram and disk space - both are generally things I can buy and fit on my computer and will be supported out of the box but not having those apps won't.
I know it's great to hate Electron because of how much ram and disk space it takes, but for those few on Linux, it's truly made life easy!
Funny enough, even the semi-technical ones are guilty of such requests too.
Over the course, I've learnt the hard way that saying no upfront is better than dealing with the fallout later
I've always wanted to break into Go, but pointers scare me after my experience in C in University. While I got the usefulness and it's functions (and usage), it was not something I felt comfortable with.
This definitely it easier!
So for example, if I was using an 100k account to trade, I had another 100k of leverage no?
How would I go about getting a static IP or a reputed IP?
No I'm very serious: we are unable to protect smart TVs. Networked smart cars (because let's be real - Google and co. would want to monetize this with Uber-like services, Ads in cars etc.) are a magnitude more likely to be hacked by both the state actors and rogue individuals (altho I don't see why we make this distinction...both are criminal acts).
The worst that can happen if your smart tv is hacked, is that they can listen and maybe watch you in your living room. If your car is hacked, they can probably kill you and hurt others while they are at it. If this happens on a large scale, it's extremely dangerous.
So while I have no problems with self driving in itself (or with Google for that matter of fact), I have a problem with banning human driving cars on the road without a viable (non-intrusive) alternative.
if I were to launch an instance of Kubernetes (via container engine) with such VMs, would it have an issue? (as in, if I had more load, more preemptible vms would be provisioned automatically based on a previously set max amount and if a vm was removed, another would be assigned based on my minimum amount)
am I wrong in thinking that this is a much better option than running dedicated vms?
We also have had issues with node_modules takes minutes to download to the point that we basically had to cache it in our CI builds - which in itself was a really bad idea (thankfully Yarn seems to fix a lot of those issues)
1. most devs know JS (so it's easier to hire & onboard new devs)
2. while everyone claims node's dependencies are hell, I love the choice available (although over time, it's tiring).
3. The community is generally awesome (helps during meetings, online etc.)
4. Developer Exp: With TS, Tslint etc, devx is not too bad IMO (and there's no dearth of opinionated articles around on the correct way to do things)
5. Finally - we can quickly churn out prototypes for features to production (but I guess that's more experience than the tools?).
6. In general, we'd be using JS on the frontend anyway (React), so it just made sense to use one language everywhere.
7. In general, most tools have JS SDKs and JS language support is always around (an exception I found was Tensorflow) - as an example, AWS Lambda supports Java, Python and JS.
Not trying to be sarcastic, just wanted to know a more in-depth view point.
Does anyone know any other headphone manufacturer that's got as good a sound + build quality as Bose?
1. why will those customers wait for your software?
2. what if you delay launching your software?
3. As a software dev, I've noticed that 90% of the product is built in 10% of the time. However, it's the final 10% that make/break it - how do you account for that (as you have already promised your future customers a product that you have yet to build) ?
Back during the birdflu scare (2008-09), my parents decided to stop eating meat (chicken - which was the only meat I used to eat). I was ~12-13 yrs old.
Overtime, I wanted to switch back but for some reason or another (saw some videos on Youtube about how chickens are treated and killed didn't sit right with me), never did.
We cut meat immediately. While I didn't miss a lot it, I did eat a lot of soy in the interim period (ofc a few friends of mine who tried didn't succeed).
Just as an FYI: Don't watch those videos if you like stuff like leather for example...I love the feeling of leather seats, but I'm looking for synthetic leather in my next car.
The taxi game is becoming more like the Social Media game where you have multiple platforms like Fb, Twitter, Snapchat etc each doing it's own thing.
While that's great, I have 10 different apps on my phone just to deal with Social Media.
BTW I am not suggesting that Uber not be regulated or anything of the sort, but just that, if all taxi companies start having their own apps, I won't install any (from a registration, security and ease of use point of view).
I have a side tracked question about this:
Let's say you were in prison for dealing Marijuana. What would the status of your case be now considering that it would be legalized?
(as in, would you still have to serve your term even though the crime you did is now considered legal?)
1. What if the criminal didn't use Google?
2. What if the criminal did use Google but used a VPN or Tor or a Proxy?
As for other projects - the most important one for me was clubhouse.io (Gitlab Issues is great but just not as good as clubhouse.io)
