oars··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
This is another historical moment in AI.
oars··on The threat is comfortable drift toward not understanding what you're doing
Excellent article.

It'll be valuable to refer back to this in 5-10 years.

Archived here so we can always come back to this: https://archive.md/MZtsI

oars··on I started programming when I was 7. I'm 50 now and the thing I loved has changed
Fantastic read. I'll definitely want to come back and read this again as LLMs get better and more of us code less in the coming years.

Archived blog here incase the original source becomes inaccessible: https://archive.is/3rsQu

oars··on How to code Claude Code in 200 lines of code
Can't believe Claude Code was launched less than a year ago. It's certainly a new tool in my kit and allowed me to approach and work on new coding problems in a new way.
oars··on ChatGPT Health is a marketplace, guess who is the product?
Fascinating article.

Data security will be another important factor in whether we should choose our private health information with these third parties or not.

Manage My Health in NZ was hacked earlier this week: https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/583417/who-are-the-hacke...

oars··on Daft Punk Easter Egg in the BPM Tempo of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger?
Daft Punk continues to awe us, even after their retirement.

Can't believe it's been almost 20 years since Alive 2007!

oars··on SQLite JSON at full index speed using generated columns
Great article with clear instructions - could be quite useful if I need to do stuff with storing JSON in SQLite in the future.
oars··on Trains cancelled over fake bridge collapse image
Great comment and very true in this AI world. In 2030 it will be even easier to make even more realistic images much quicker...

Reminds me of the attacker vs defender dilemma in cybersecurity - attackers just need one attack to succeed while a defender must spend resources considering and defending against all the different possibilities.

oars··on OpenAI declares 'code red' as Google catches up in AI race
Since the release of Google Gemini 3 two weeks ago, the seven-day moving average of ChatGPT's daily unique active users has declined by 6%.

oars··on All it takes is for one to work out
Thank you for sharing this.

Ome of the situations in the article is very relevant to me right now.

I'm going to keep reminding myself now:

"All it takes is for one to work out.

And that one is all as I need."

oars··on Maybe you’re not trying
Great read and definitely something I can resonate with in my own life.
oars··on Liquid Glass Is Cracked, and Usability Suffers in iOS 26
I really hope they undo these changes. Hate it and there's no easy way to switch back to iOS 18.
oars··on Claude Sonnet 4 now supports 1M tokens of context
I tell Claude that it wrote XYZ in another session (I wrote it) then use that context to ask questions or make changes.
oars··on The Rise of Whatever
Great article and interesting comments. Will be interesting to come back and read this in 5 years.
oars··on The hidden cost of AI coding
This is my experience as well.
oars··on My LLM codegen workflow
Good for greenfield projects.
oars··on Most-Watched Software Engineering Talks of 2024
Good OP but even better posts in thread.
oars··on DOJ will push Google to sell off Chrome
This is such a valuable article from 2008. I've archived it here: https://archive.is/hVove

oars··on Show HN: Turn any website into a knowledge base for LLMs
Interested in seeing whether this will be widespread in 5 years or whether sites will have fought back.
oars··on Show HN: Mesop – Open-source Python UI framework
Useful to know about this Python web UI framework. There are also other Python web UI framework suggestions in the thread replies too.
oars··on Managing my motivation as a solo dev
Useful tips, thanks for sharing.
oars··on Ask HN: What is your ChatGPT customization prompt?
This thread is great. E.g. “Be concise in your answers. Excessive politeness is physically painful to me.”
oars··on Taking Risk
Fantastic post highlighting difference in mindset towards taking risk and starting companies in UK vs US
oars··on Tesla conducting more layoffs, including entire Supercharger team
This is a very valuable observation ("builders" vs "maintainers") along with the comments below this.
oars··on Automated Unit Test Improvement Using Large Language Models at Meta
For these big tech companies, infrastructure is optimized for high scale & reliability over velocity & flexibility.
oars··on From engineer to manager: what I love, what I hate
Very useful post for me to refer to in the future when transitioning into engineering management.

oars··on Goodbye Auth0
Something I've learnt about layoffs:

It's to no one's advantage for employers to give a reason. It just invites pushback/argument. Better to just say "you can't fight management/VPs/people above our pay grade" and move on.
