The Google Style guide is a guide we use (and have been using for years) when designing our own APIs.
(I work on the API team at Google).
The right lane is pretty much for trucks going 55.
The left lane is a combination of: * Trucks going 60-65 to pass a truck in the right lane * 'Typical' cars who are going 75ish * Fast cars who are going 80-90
So there is a huge disparity of speed in that lane -- and that disparity seems like it must be a huge factor in many highway accidents.
It always feels really dangerous. I wonder if it is safer than just having the trucks have the same speed limit as the cars.
Generally "beta" implies that non-employees are using it. This is more of a dogfooding program (though maybe they wanted to avoid that term since they're selling human food this way!).

I lost one of my closest friends a few years ago to an accident but was heartened to know that his organs went on to help others.
I broke mine. Sad, sad day.
Both of our API frameworks have been open sourced (Java[0], Python[1]). Those used to be available only on App Engine Standard Environment but can now be used anywhere. This was a top request of people using Flexible Environments.
But we've added a bunch of functionality to the platform (logging, monitoring, user authentication, tracing) that people can use whether or not they're using our frameworks -- for example, Python+Flask, NodeJS + Express, etc. To use it, you set it up with an OpenAPI Specification (FKA Swagger Spec). We've seen tons of interest in OpenAPI and even joined the Open API Initiative to foster that community.
If you are interested in a walkthrough (that uses Python and Flask), see [2].

I find, like some commentors above, that for longer-form composition, I often want to skip around. But for a text-length message the time to compose is drastically reduced by dictating it to my wrist rather than removing phone, unlocking phone, typing reply, etc. And it can be done largely hands-free.

That's not exactly right. You need a Google account, but it does not need to have gmail attached to it. Yes, lots of people don't know such a thing exists...but it's easy to set up.
On the "standard" Google account creation page is a link that says something like "I prefer to use my current email address."
As long as you have an email address that Google can validate, it's fine to use that instead of a gmail address.
Because I read an article about a team using publicly available data about public companies, then training an algorithm to comb that data to determine which ones were likely customers (which would save their salespeople time and, probably, save time for unlikely customers who are no longer receiving an unwanted solicitation).
Endpoints is going strong and will have a release later this year that adds support for hosting APIs on more of our compute offerings (Compute Engine, Container Engine, App Engine Flexible Environments). We'll also be adding features, reporting, etc.
Then, one day, out of the blue, he asked with a look of incredulity in his eye: "Daddy. What is one minus TWO???"
He clearly realized that he had come up with a question which had no representation in the marble-based construct.
I was so proud.
I sat down with him and drew a number line...and then showed him how we could extend the number line to the other side of zero.
He does know about infinity now (he's 7) -- and his most recent revelation that there is no such thing as an infinite number of any physical object. Even germs. Even atoms -- no matter how tiny, an infinite number of them can't exist in the universe (which he certainly pictures as finite).
Now: to ensure we're only extracting the mosquito DNA and not the dino DNA...
My wife and I have made, I don't know, 10 guesses over the years and have never been able to figure out what our response was back then.
Questions with fact-based answers are much better. But...I once had a site ask me for my best man's first name (Good! This probably won't change over time!). I filled in "Dave" ... and the site gave me an error "Your answer must be at least 6 characters."
Doh!
Best of luck to you, my friend. The first year or two will be unlike anything you've endured in your life, but you will make it through.
