nvrgngvup··on US public wants climate change dealt with, but doesn’t like the options
One way or other we would be moving away from gas. In your opinion which odd these scenarios is most likely:

1. Commercial and consumer market for solar 2. Commissioned NPPs 3. Something else

Energy security is going to be a prime concern, not only for nations but individual persons too. Fossil fuels are either going to run out, or carbon emissions are going to be heavily taxed, or both. Nuclear power does not seem to be a favourite or a viable option. Renewables are not getting enough support to make them viable for consumers or industries at scale.

In a decade or 2 an average Jack&Jill family won’t be able to afford living on gas. People would be happy to buy a smaller house [those who can afford a house] with independent solar power. A solar setup is easily capable of generating surplus electricity for a consumption by a family, right from heating to charging their EVs.

nvrgngvup··on Water heavily polluted with PFAS in 15 km radius around Dordrecht chemical plant
I saw the DuPont logo on the first image and I knew what was coming. This is not the first time they have contaminated natural resources with harmful forever chemicals. Their contamination of a site with PFOA in West Virginia, is covered in the movie Dark Waters.

They not only dumped tons of that chemical in a landfill, they also tried their best to cover it up and delay discovery when they were caught. During the entire time they were fully cognisant of the fact that the chemical is carcinogenic and fatal for livestock and humans.

The fact that these corporations are still solvent and allowed to operate near human settlements or wildlife is a failure of regulatory authorities.

nvrgngvup··on Some subreddits are now protesting Reddit by posting porn to hit at ad revenue
This is like “What content would a subreddit have if they took their name literally?” coming true.
nvrgngvup··on Don't Use Mocks
Where I have found mocking useful or unavoidable is when we need to modify behaviour that is not in our control. This almost always is in calling a third party resource (api or store) or an sdk or library.

Everything else can be controlled and tested via DI.

That is so wrong. In cases where long input is required, I, for some reason, have a habit of writing things down in plain text editor, and then copying that to forms. Did not know that I need to make this a required step.
nvrgngvup··on Reddit App – Suspicious high number of recent 5 star, one word reviews
It’s true that users are anonymous to others, but Reddit still has treasure trove of data on what likes, dislikes, political leaning and in some cases current emotional state/wellbeing of individual users.

Unless they are stating that they can’t process this data, they surely should have enough knowledge to do targeted ads.

Most likely scenario is that they have not invested enough on RnD and BD.

IMO, Reddit is valuable. It has the necessary scale in terms of footfall or eyeballs [whatever metric is appropriate]. Where they have failed is to evolve and deliver on customer promises. Not having sufficient mod tools, suboptimal experience on official apps are just few issues that get the majority of limelight. Inability to build enterprise products or tiered data API for businesses and education are also missing, that they could have leveraged.

They need to find the DAU one way or the other. I guess a lot of heavy active users would have started going dark as the blackout is extending. The power user curve must have started leaning left, and engagement might be tanking.

I would not be surprised if people who can pay monthly fees to a third party app for better experience, on an otherwise free website, would also be the ones buying gold.

Just clicked on a post. Now they are pushing users on phone browsers to either login or download native app. I don’t know when they changed it. I have been able to access posts without logging in.
