nutcracker46··on Huawei P30 Pro alleged to be querying China servers
Smear? No, own the facts: Huawei phones (and Chinese phones generally) collect data for the Chinese police state.
nutcracker46··on Huawei P30 Pro alleged to be querying China servers
Do tell, why my Huawei P30 Pro should contact Chinese servers without my awareness or consent?
nutcracker46··on You’re Not Getting Enough Sleep–and It’s Killing You
Work smarter, not harder, folks. The 996 culture will kill you. Burning your time with too many things, inefficiently, will kill you. If you don't draw a boundary around your rest, and defend it, you're gonna lose years of life.

Whatever you think needs you so much doesn't really need you that much. Turn off the lights and go the fuck to sleep.

nutcracker46··on Southwest to buy 100s more of 737 Max planes
Alright, Southwesties, have fun with those Maxes. It is not surprising that the company has gone all-in on the 737 Max, as it went all-in on the 737 from the start. It is the primary reason Boeing continued the type versus creating a replacement based on 787 technology.

Why should Boeing innovate when it has customers who will buy its legacy equipment with a kludge of addons?

nutcracker46··on Jack Ma defends the 'blessing' of a 12-hour working day
This is just Sino brainwashing in the East as workers in the West move toward a four day week. Does anyone really expect the 996ers, on their death beds, will say, "I'm sure glad I made oligarchy great again. I regret not going the extra step to be a 10-10-7 worker."

Perhaps 996 is the perfect life for a population of incels who are not going to make family a significant element of their lives.

nutcracker46··on Chinese workers who complain called slackers by JD.com boos
"Slackers" is an easy criticism from a CEO who benefits from his employees trading their lives for a thin illusion of wealth. Are you 996ers a bunch of wage-slaving mice or are you humans, and what the fuck are you worth?
nutcracker46··on Is 996 Truly a Blessing? Let's Hear What Richard Liu and Jack Ma Have to Say
Richard Liu and Jack Ma can go f* themselves. The 996ers are living empty lives, for what? The same kind of dream held by heroin addicts.

"Those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger often ended up inside" -- JFK

Being in China, maybe there will be a pretty statue erected in honor of the 996ers. LMFAO, give them golden Lei Feng medals.

nutcracker46··on What It’s Like to Die Before You Die “ and Then Feel Truly Alive.”
After about three or four sentences, I knew I was going to like what Brian Pennie was bringing. There are times when you must bulldoze your life in order to live.

Indeed...

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone: but if it die, it brings forth much fruit. He that loves his life shall lose it; but he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal."

nutcracker46··on Delta cuts back how far you can recline your seat
It appears that there is a cycle of seat pitch in the airline industry. Does anyone here remember the enforced increase in seat pitch after the AA accident in Little Rock? That has slowly eroded despite lawsuits and proposed rules favoring larger seat size, especially with the current administration's favor of minimal regulation.
nutcracker46··on Chinese sanitation workers have to wear location-tracking bracelets now
LOL, it is a low calorie article. An org like China Labor Watch probably has more in depth data.
nutcracker46··on Chinese sanitation workers have to wear location-tracking bracelets now
Memphis sanitation worker: "I am a man. (on strike, expecting better pay and working conditions)"

Nanjing sanitation worker: "I am a scab. (never to strike, accepts any degradation)"

Of course, that voice telling the workers to get on and hustle has never known the stench of rotting trash.

nutcracker46··on China’s clampdown on religious freedom
What? Nobel winners and moon travelers have espoused religious ideas and talked of God, creation, and conversion. So, education is not really a factor (not even if you expand the sample size to include moderately educated and non-elite people).
nutcracker46··on The End Is Near for 3.2 Beer
Bye bye and good riddance to "near beer." Celebrate with cold bubbly IPA, or perhaps a stout.
nutcracker46··on A million people live in underground nuclear bunkers in Beijing (2017)
They are fucked, as they will graduate to the world of "996" and still live a dismal life. Such are the ways in cultures with a steep "power gradient." If all persons are not created equal, then someone deserves steak eggs while another deserves beans and shit. All one have left is connections, and no measure of hard work will make the graduate from a farm family the peer of the graduate from a family of Party princelings.
nutcracker46··on A million people live in underground nuclear bunkers in Beijing (2017)
You should see the cages people are willing to occupy in Hong Kong. Once you cross the border into the PRC, some people are willing to live in even harsher conditions.

I don't think there is a hard limit as to what humans will endure to survive or to make money to send home. Oddly, the question falls to "how low can I go to keep my life" instead of "how high can rise above my current situation."

Where the fuck are people who stand up and say, "we are humans, not rats, and we refuse to live like rats."

nutcracker46··on One US pilot asked for more training on the 737 Max
That pilot won't disclose the airline, but the list of companies that based or deadhead pilots into LAX trips on the B737-Max is pretty short. Forty-five minutes from report time to push time narrows it down more.

That company has quite the "go, go, go fast, and find a way to get'er done" attitude on minimal crew resources. Guess what? Now, everyone flying the Max will get more in depth differences training.

As Gene Cernan could have said, "We'zz ups to lotsa CYA before the signoffs."

nutcracker46··on Where Should Americans Live If They Live Abroad?
Noah Smith is out of his mind for putting China at the top of the list. How much did the CCP pay him for his "Up and coming superpower" characterization of a dystopian corrupt, fascist, totalitarian police state?

By the way, Shenzhen is packed with Americans and other Westerners complaining that "democracy didn't work for me." Let's see how it goes when they eventually find themselves on the wrong side of an exercise of state power.

nutcracker46··on The tiny town behind a heartwarming 9/11 tale
Indeed, an example of hospitality and individual kindness to bring a smile to the face of even hardened skeptics. I've been to the airport a few times, and believe it is the typical good nature of people there.
nutcracker46··on How would you invest $500k at 30?
Do some serious homework on the markets before putting that 500k on the line. Some, but not all, and probably not half of the stocks in the S&P 500 will continue to gain this year. Bonds have run up recently, so they also have more immediate risk of decline / low yield.

Also, consider things not so obvious: option selling strategies. Warren Buffet does it, so smart is as smart does.

nutcracker46··on In 1959, A 707 variant had design issue similar to 737MAX (1992) [audio]
At 1:33:00 Davies gives an essential argument about the dangers of compromise, the nonsense of "equivalent level of safety." Compromise a little here, a little there, so why not shitcan the whole project?

The Boeing 707-336 stick nudger was fitted fleetwide at no extra cost, much as the 737-Max will get annunciations and software to remedy crashes due to AOA/MCAS faults.

nutcracker46··on In 1959, A 707 variant had design issue similar to 737MAX (1992) [audio]
It sure appears that the 707 flew like a truck. Not simply a truck, but a truck with too small a rudder. Davies certainly didn't like the low V speeds / difficult controllability in the original version.

You know there's a problem when the manufacturer doesn't like being aboard for an engine out test around Vmcg.

Goddam those pilots goofing off, rolling the 707. And then, the others doing excessive Dutch roll without yaw dampers on...

nutcracker46··on In 1959, A 707 variant had design issue similar to 737MAX (1992) [audio]
At about 1:08:00 Davies tells a great account of a crew hand flying a Brittania 300 from Heathrow to Vancouver, arriving on fumes. Ha! They started without chocks (or brake pressure) and almost rolled into concrete blocks on the apron.
nutcracker46··on How Samuel L. Jackson Was De-Aged for Just About All of ‘Captain Marvel’
Yeah, I'll be made young by Samuel Jackson beer.
nutcracker46··on Nellie Ohr: Ham radio not used for Russia contacts
LOL, he must have been in Jones's logbook, or picked up by the NSA monitors.
nutcracker46··on Nellie Ohr: Ham radio not used for Russia contacts
WTF kind of silly question, asking why a "woman in her 50's would get a ham radio license." The questioner must not really understand radio or cumputer technology. Covert comms are pretty easy using Tor, Telegram, or numerous other applications. Amateur radio frequencies are easily monitored by governments and hobbyists - you can't expect privacy and are prohibited from commercial usage. Also, why do all of the studying and testing just for a comm channel to another country?

What kind of legislator troll asks a question like that, on a Qanon level of dumbassery?

nutcracker46··on How does Nokia or OnePlus 'mistakenly' collect user data and ship it to China?
It is a showing of poor attitude to say, "oh, mistakes happen" when missing such an important detail. Those companies need to stop tripping over themselves in eagerness to satisfy that Orwellian distopia called China.
nutcracker46··on Livestreamed massacre means it’s time to shut down Facebook Live
Shutting down Facebook Live is rather extreme, isn't it? FB didn't waste time removing offensive content when it was reported. Who wants their social media to be a monitored, censored, walled garden as is WeChat?

If we must endure screened, delayed communication, nonfree (as in freedom) then the terrorists win.

nutcracker46··on Boeing to mandate 737 MAX safety feature missing on Lion Air and Ethiopian jets
Let's put that one next to the CABIN ALTITUDE and TAKEOFF CONFIG lights. Those came from crashes where the warning horn was dual purpose: improper takeoff configuration or cabin pressure corresponding to an altitude over 10000 feet.

In the Helios 522 crash, the crew departed with an incorrect cabin pressure controller setting. When the horn went off, they were thinking, "Why are we getting the takeoff config warning? There must be a bad switch somewhere..."

Modern planes shouldn't just beep or do ambiguous complaining. People must die before planes like the 737 are modded to give proper annunciations.

nutcracker46··on Boeing Downplayed 737 Max Software Risks, Self-Certified Much of Plane’s Safety
"Instead of dual AOA sensing, let's use one for MCAS, on each leg alternating the one used. We can score better on weight and complexity. Beautiful -- What could go wrong?"

Such decisions are akin to playing a lottery of death, with jackpot winners every few months

nutcracker46··on Facebook removed 1.5M videos of the Christchurch attacks within 24 hours
One point five million uploads and counting. What a fucking waste of time, CPU cycles, and bandwidth. For Facebook, it is Whack-a-mole on steroids and meth.

Yet politicians still seem to want more, something along the lines of no anonymity / fully moderated social media. Not going to happen in free countries.
