nurgasemetey··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (April 2026)
I made a launcher app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nurgasemet... but can't stop thinking that most of people are not comfortable with changing their default launcher.
nurgasemetey··on YAML: The Norway Problem (2022)
Probably, OP didn't keep user data in YAML, but I think there was config that kept allowed countries to sign up.
nurgasemetey··on OpenStreetMap Is Turning 20
Is it normal that website gives 403 Forbidden?
nurgasemetey··on Flightradar24's new GPS jamming map
Red dots are in the north of Turkey. I don't think that Iran reaches there.

nurgasemetey··on GitUI
Sublime Merge
nurgasemetey··on Sparkey: A simple constant key/value storage library
Very ingenious indeed. How would you deal with data corruptions? How it was detected? Is repair automatic?
nurgasemetey··on Buddhist office turns to Thai cyber police over AI-generated Facebook content
I think it could backfire in the long term because people will stop believing any videos at all because they will assume that eveything is AI-generated.
nurgasemetey··on India's biggest tech centers named as cyber crime hotspots
Yes, I agree with you. I just remember some countries were not targeted by Russian hackers, think like some agreement.
nurgasemetey··on India's biggest tech centers named as cyber crime hotspots
There was an article about this -https://krebsonsecurity.com/2021/05/try-this-one-weird-trick... . Basically, malicious programs will not target hosts that have Cyrillic or other languages of Russian aligned countries.
nurgasemetey··on The last day of Constantinople
Why they are immigrants if they are Turkish citizens? Moreover, orthodox muslims are not radicals. There are many differences between them.
nurgasemetey··on I worked at Google for -10 days
Wow, smells like 1950s
nurgasemetey··on GitHub Actions Incident 29.3
It is because titles will be duplicated on search if 29.3 is not added
nurgasemetey··on TikTok Ban Bill Is Patriot Act 2.0 Trojan Horse [video]
So if I will create SSH tunnel using AWS EC2 to view tiktok, can AWS ban me?
nurgasemetey··on Costs of the U.S.-Led War in Iraq Since 2003
You are accussing all posters and commenters without proofs. Additionally, your comment contradicts HN guidelines.
nurgasemetey··on Facebook and Google hand over user data, help police prosecute abortion seekers
What employees will think about their companies?
nurgasemetey··on Can video games change people’s minds about the climate crisis?
I don't care about climit crisis while people use private jets. It is annoying to be taught while there is no burden on rich people.
nurgasemetey··on Kazakhstan’s president: We’re moving full speed ahead toward reform
I would not jump to believe to his words after his offshore money [1].

This app is using Wikidata and actually you can change it.
nurgasemetey··on Captive Portals
If captive portal is not opened in Linux, find gateway IP and paste this IP in the browser. It will open captive portal.
nurgasemetey··on Quick fixes to your code review workflow
I quickly improved my PRs and sped up code reviewing by doing following when I create PRs

- make a diagram if is possible

- make a summary of changes like why this file changed and decision behind this

- make a note about backward compatibility

- anticipate which questions can be asked and answer them upfront

nurgasemetey··on Quick fixes to your code review workflow
Also there is github cli for checking out PR

     $ gh pr checkout {<number> | <url> | <branch>}
nurgasemetey··on Impressions from a first-time Mac user
I had also same complaints as author in https://www.nurgasemetey.com/what-i-lack-in-osx-after-linux/
nurgasemetey··on Introducing the new star-history.com – the missing GitHub star history graph
I use github stars with https://github.com/abhijithvijayan/stargazed for bookmarking. It really makes easier finding something by keyword.
nurgasemetey··on Mapping my walks with OSRM and Rust
As past heavy user of OSRM, after map-matching post-processing needs to be done like connecting disjointed travel segments.
nurgasemetey··on How South Korean TV took over the world
I can't stand over-masculinity in korean dramas. Scenes where man screams and all women suddenly become silenced.
nurgasemetey··on Should you contribute open data to OpenStreetMap?
While working with municipalities, they provided us with shapefile of bicycle routes and add to our systems. It would have been better if they just added bicycle routes to OSM but I think they don't want to take responsibility of maintaining it.
