number6··on How our vibe coded website looks like a designer made it
Before everything looked like bootstrap or one of the other 5 design systems. Website? Hero Image, 3 Colums, footer. This was peak design half a decade ago.

number6··on Anthropic researcher believes more than 10% chance AI 'could kill all humans'
At the current tech level? Everything would crumble within a week or two. It would need some kind of gerneal purpose robot workforce.

Someone has to go out there and cut back the tree that is growing into the power line.

number6··on Anthropic researcher believes more than 10% chance AI 'could kill all humans'
and of these models how many are AGI?
number6··on Anthropic researcher believes more than 10% chance AI 'could kill all humans'
And in terms of AGI it is, that the AI can't survive without humans, and if we decide to quit the game than its over for the AGI; we will happily regress in a techno-barbarian feudal state and salvage solar panels and trade copper wires while still reproducing and carring on. We are playing a whole different game here.

number6··on The EU has begun enforcing the AI Act: first RFIs to model providers
I actually looked up the text in the AI Act:

"The obligations set out in paragraph 1, points (a) and (b), shall not apply to providers of AI models that are released under a free and open-source licence that allows for the access, usage, modification, and distribution of the model, and whose parameters, including the weights, the information on the model architecture, and the information on model usage, are made publicly available. 2This exception shall not apply to general-purpose AI models with systemic risks."

The why is under:

https://ai-act-law.eu/recital/102/

So the chinese models aren't exactly open like in the EU wants them to be

number6··on The EU has begun enforcing the AI Act: first RFIs to model providers
The regulations apply foremost to closed models. Chinese companies mostly release "open models".

And regarding fines, well the track record for EU fines against any big tech companies, US or China, is abysmal. Even if the companies are fined, the fine goes uncollected or is slashed after the big press release.

I am looking as the DSA here...

number6··on Danube's record low levels force shutdown of Hungary's only nuclear plant
Germany also has potential for 85% geothermal energy.

There are some interesting spots here but it's generally enough through the country to do it everywhere.

Munich gets quite a lot of it's energy from geothermal sources

number6··on Danube's record low levels force shutdown of Hungary's only nuclear plant
And it's not cold enough to cool the reactor
number6··on An Uncomplicated Man – A review of The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan
> What are you even talking about man. I don't know how you misinterpreted that so badly. He is saying yes I might die but if I don't risk my life you will be a slave, so I am going to fight for you:

In the passage you cited he does not say that he is fighting for her; he is fighting for his honor, the glory of his father. Everything else he states are consequences. He doesn't reassure her, he offers her fate rather than hope.

> He's mad because he is camped out on a beach for a decade helping Agamemnon, which he has no obligation to do, and Agamemnon steals his sex slave for little reason and tells him to fuck off. Achilles then refuses to war for this guy, very reasonably.

Reasonable if your point in going to war is for riches; they are just a bunch of pirates and bandits, thats my point. Before the Illiad I had the idea of the noble greecs in their shining bronce armour. That was my misconception to be fair. So this was something that got me from the start. The only thing that seems to outweight riches is glory, it seems.

So my reading of the whole thing is, and please correct me if I misunderstood it , that the man fighting these wars are total manicas, they fight for glory, and women and tripods. They choose the best and wised of man (Nestor) on how good a cattle thief he is - ok not entirely he is also valued for his age and eloquence, but he got there beeing a pretty good cattle thief. They plunder the land and destroy everything around it and themselves. And I think the Illiad backs this up...

number6··on An Uncomplicated Man – A review of The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan
I did not read the odyssey yet, but I just finished the illiad and there the Warlords are measured in how much livestock they stole and Achilles gets mad about not getting his fair trophy share, which is measured in women.

Hectors wife is worried about her husband, and he tells her, that there is nothing to worry about, when he is dead, because if he dies, the city is sacked and she would become a slave and this would be that and since he would be dead, why should she worry then at all.

Oh and then there is the parley scene, where one of the main points is who gets whoms bronce armour after the duel is over.

Total maniacs from a modern viewpoint.

number6··on List of European organizations that have banned personal messaging apps at work
The leadership can block anything they want on a work-supplied device. They might get the Works Councils on board but generally they can.

However they can not reduce private social life to zero at work [1]. And there the employees are guaranteed privacy. NB: This was pre GDPR.

This however does not go so far, that people must be allowed private chatting apps on work phones. They can and should use their private phones.

Oh, it solves two problem at once: overpaying wages and overdelivery of quality.

You just have to get the input coefficient right. The least amount of acceptable quality with the least amount of costs is the sweet spot. /s

It's central vs decentralisation.

It is very methodical. Starting out on why you shouldn't kill yourself, as a real debate. And yes all the arguments have been made before. He tries to build up from first principals. I think he tried to walk a fine line between the physical suicide and the philosophical suicide.
