nullocator··on Memory executives expect RAM shortage to continue through 2028
Or possibly more likely get the Chinese manufacturers labeled as some kind of national security threat and forbid importing their products.
nullocator··on US tells France and Germany to release diesel stocks or face US export ban
I can't speak to whether or not we have excess diesel, but the price would be high because U.S. diesel is sold outside of the united states, so if EU members are willing to pay higher $$$ for it, then that's what U.S. oil producers will sell it for, raising domestic prices in turn.
nullocator··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
Maybe if they tried to build some of these on existing dilapidated commercial or industrial plots that are vacant and languishing they wouldn't have to jump through so many procedural and political hoops. I'm told these exist all over rural america.

Instead they want to build their 100 acre Data-Center/Technology Industrial Park adjacent to the burrowing owl habitats or up against Grandma Martha's backyard.

nullocator··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
You can find public statements in the last 12 months from Samsung and Hynix about their aversion to scaling out production or increasing supply because they are concerned about profits.

Hard to know who to believe, on one side there are the absurdly high prices and statements from companies and on the other hand there are strangers posting on HN that it's actually all fine.

nullocator··on PS5 Relapse Exploit
I wonder if this will maybe change in the near future or possibly already has? With things like starlink and fiber internet and data centers everywhere absolutely packed full of GPUs it seems like one or two more big players will try at least and possibly succeed with this model.
nullocator··on Google’s Project Suncatcher to put ML infrastructure in space
Doesn't the data or whatever have to be received on earth? Can Joe Public do some (light) arson on that?
nullocator··on Neovim have a ~$800k Bitcoin donation sitting untouched since 2023
I'm not sure what argument you're making? Taxes are theft? Consensus on that type of thinking seems to be hard to come by.
nullocator··on Neovim have a ~$800k Bitcoin donation sitting untouched since 2023
Sounds good.

Edit: it seems perfectly acceptable and ideal even for society to say there is a cost to wealth. As others have mentioned Neovim is in the US is likely mostly tax exempt so this hypothetical doesn't even apply to them.

nullocator··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
This isn't a criticism, but I do think this comment actually raises part of the problem. There are people on twitter telling people they should be on twitter, and it's apparently effective enough that at least some people are still signing up or trying to at least. The world needs more of the inverse, people telling those they care about who are on twitter to get off it.
nullocator··on How Much Has Trump Made from Crypto? ($1.4B from 2025 Federal Disclosure)
What bad things has she done? Why is she laughable? Does she show up hundreds of thousands of times in the Epstein files? Does she demonstrate daily corruption and self enrichment openly?
nullocator··on Flock worker calls police on reporter filming public camera installation
I've personally never come across a police department or sherrif in the U.S. that doesn't have a non emergency number. I'd assume thats what you should call for things that aren't an emergency? They've never told me to call back and call 911.
nullocator··on Diesel prices in U.S. top $6 a gallon for first time
I think a great many Democrats could have warned you this type of war was not only possible but likely under Trump. People made an active, conscious decision to vote for him or to not vote. No one to blame but themselves for this, they got what they voted for (yup non-voters also share the blame, no one can feign ignorance on Donald Trump or the Republican party). Not that it matters, the rest of us get to suffer the consequences right along with them.
nullocator··on Lake Ontario ("Lake America")
Half the members of the legislature act like Trump is a king and believe that his Executive Orders are the same as laws signed by themselves. They've said as much on national television.
nullocator··on Lake Ontario ("Lake America")
Polls for the last few decades haven't really been all that accurate or good ("it's 50/50" - worthless).

You also seem to be ignoring all the systematic changes that have been made during Trump 2 in your prediction for such huge wins for the democrats. Things like the final destruction of the Voting Rights Act and the extreme Gerrymandering have gone mostly towards republicans. Also 32% of voters (or more) still don't really see a distinction against Donald Trump and The Almighty. Forgive me but I'm not convinced it'll be the bloodbath you think it's going to be. Democrats might have a minor edge in the house when all is said and done and literally nothing else to show for it.

nullocator··on Andreessen Horowitz is investing billions into a bleak future
How exactly has he greatly improved the world? Being the first loser of the browser wars?
nullocator··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
> Hospitals have an operating margin of 2-5%

Very curious where this comes from and how accurate it is. For example the $37 a provider charges for an Aspirin seems like more than 2-5% margin.

nullocator··on DOGE is done. What happened to its records?
The GAO is a "legislative agency"...
nullocator··on Grok 4.5
Because the fraud and waste were coming from inside the house (The Whitehouse, and Elon's). So yes now adults in ~2 years will have to come in and and try and salvage what they can after the travesty of DOGE and this Administration.
nullocator··on It's not about physical vs. digital games, it's about ownership

nullocator··on Supersonic flight returning to US after half-century ban
How many gas blowers do I have to run to be one Taylor Swift?
nullocator··on How to earn a billion dollars
How many paupers did he create? I haven't seen this reported on, seems biased to ignore it.
nullocator··on How to earn a billion dollars
Excellent way to put this, by moving and accelerating Apple's outsourcing of manufacturing and production to countries with more exploitable labor and cheaper corruption to advantage himself with, Tim Cook not only exploited people in multiple countries around the world but helped hollow out American manufacturing and suppress wages!

Through this exploitation he created billions in value for himself and other capital holders.

nullocator··on How to earn a billion dollars
"People are exploited by this organization so they leave"

"Can't you tell how unexploited all these people are, just look at them leave!"

nullocator··on How to earn a billion dollars
Yes we are, yes they are. You can google dozens of examples of billionaire owners or CEOs of health insurance companies, for example Warren Buffet is deeply invested/has ownership stake.

Why state something so obviously disprovable and false?

nullocator··on How to earn a billion dollars
Is it hard? It seems like if you have capital you just buy your moat, isn't that what basically every modern billionaire has done to get there? SpaceX used it's capital sued the U.S. government to get it's contracts and now 20 years later the regulatory capture and Elon's influence in government as a whole is beyond most people's wildest nightmares.

> Is that because you don't know what caused World War 2 and you don't have any family who served in World War 2?

Pretty familiar, also familiar with Vietnam, Korea, Cuba, Libya, Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. I can link pictures and articles detailing American Service Members and the women and children they shot, blew up, raped, burned alive, and otherwise mutilated in each of those engagements.

My familiarity with WW2, and it's causes make my deeply uneasy about the idea of going to war with a peer power like China; China who was an ally in WW3, maybe you don't know this and didn't have any family who served in World War 2?

Anyways no idea why you'd bring this up or what point you were trying to make? War is good or something? War can be justified if the orange man on the TV says the (enemy) country is "bigly bad"?

---

The amount of delusion here is actually baffling, given https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandolini%27s_law I'm not going to respond to all of this. I do think it's incredibly entertaining to watch people/bots defend the convicted felons leading the U.S. by saying it's absolutely imperative we stop crime everywhere else!

Most statements you made are fabricated or right wing talking points not based in any type of reality (JCPOA bad not complying [all evidence is against this]; "Iran is an existential threat" - Not to me or anyone I know of have ever met, not a single day of my life has gone by that I felt directly under threat by anyone in Iran).

It's all the same with you people, try and propagandize the rest of us with threats and doom about the death and destruction that will certainly come from these places half way around the world, while completely ignoring the death and destruction that the U.S. exports globally every single day. It's sickening.

Hi long time United States citizen here:

- I don't care about removing oil suppliers from China, I don't know anyone who does. I get most of my stuff from them, seems like a bad idea

- I don't care about Venezuela or lies about them being (drug lords|conquering invaders|bad hombres), they are sovereign, the U.S has no right, justification or excuse to be kidnapping their leaders or fucking with their politics.

- The United States has been spreading extremism and instability globally for 40+ years.

- Oil production in the U.S. is not meaningfully higher than it was under Biden, so "drill baby drill" was just another lie that's been lapped up and is now being spit back out

- A decent deal HAD BEEN MADE under Obama, it was pretty good most would say, then Trump tore it up because of his ego and tiny dick/tiny hands syndrome.

- "mowing the grass" sounds like terrorism first and foremost and crimes against humanity second.

- Just because the U.S. and Israel Administrations want to self select into being world police does not make it just or right.

nullocator··on Corporations can vote in some Delaware elections, judge says
I guess the Walton family has a long-term local presence in basically every mid to large town and city in america. Same with Mcdonalds Corp. They have vested interests there (crushing competition, raising prices, lower quality, profit!). And their bigly profits certainly show a more significant vested interest as opposed to just a small property owner or worse a bystander or citizen.
nullocator··on How to convert between wealth and income tax
You're going to have a hard time convincing me the wealthy aren't gaming the tax system after all the reporting and leaks over the last ~40 years.

I suspect you are simplifying what's happening quite a bit, not sure if it's intentional or otherwise. But wouldn't the more likely scenario be that you borrow 100m with a 10 year draw at x% interest and then at the end of the 10 years you do a stock sale (some taxes paid), pay the interest (interest is generally non-taxable) and then take out a new loan for 500m based on your much larger portfolio, and finally claim significant losses against some other asset (regain your actual stock sale taxes losses "oh no my art lost value!")? Repeat ad nauseam until you're dead.

nullocator··on How to convert between wealth and income tax
What is the demographics breakdown on those statistics? How much is old vs new wealth vs generational wealth?

A lot has changed in the U.S. in the last 20-40 years.

Also I'm not really convinced that the existence of individuals with over a billion dollars in wealth is a net positive for society or really anyone except that individual.
