nullify88··on Max Payne – two decades later – Graphics Critique (2021)
The game also had support for mods. After the first playthrough I've always played the game with the kongfu mod enabling wallrunning, kicks, additional weapons such as Sticks, and various other action orientated changes.

Additionally, I believe Rockstar gave the go-ahead for work on a remake for 1 & 2. Hopefully they have James Perry McCaffrey's voice work in good enough quality. RIP.

nullify88··on Kea DHCP: Modern, open source DHCPv4 and DHCPv6 server
I've been running Kea at dayjob in production for the last 5-ish years, setup in a HA manner. It's worked solidly.
nullify88··on Average DRAM price in USD over last 18 months
A possible answer as to why this is happening. https://thememoryguy.com/some-clarity-on-2025s-ddr4-price-su...
nullify88··on MinIO is now in maintenance-mode
https://www.versity.com/products/versitygw/

I haven't tried it though. Seems simple enough to run.

nullify88··on Amazon faces FAA probe after delivery drone snaps internet cable in Texas
That scene really cracked me up. The show is shot very well. It's good to have Vince Gilligan back on the TV again.
nullify88··on Static Web Hosting on the Intel N150
While the N100 document a 16gb limit, they are known to have no problems with a 32gb module. I run one myself.
nullify88··on Helm 4.0
Running my home lab at home, I've grown sick of constant Renovate PRs against the helm charts in use. I recall one "minor" update not long ago recently in CoreDNS was messing with the exposed ports in the service and installs broke for a lot of folks. If I need to run some software now, I `helm template` the resources and commit those to git. I'm so tired of some random "Extended helm chart to customise labels / annotations in $some resource" change notes. Traefik and Cilium are the only helm charts I use, the rest I `helm template` in to my gitops repo, customize and forget.

At Dayjob in the past, we've debugged various Helm issues caused by the internal sprig library used. We fear updating Argo CD and Helm for what surprises are in store for us and we're starting to adopt the rendered manifests pattern for greater visibility to catch such changes.

nullify88··on Denmark's government aims to ban access to social media for children under 15
I don't think HN is a social media site. The goals of a social media site is to keep you engaged for as long as possible with the assistance of various algorithms, dark patterns while your data is sold to businesses so they can have a slice of your attention pie via ads and supported content.

I dont feel as if any of that applies here. In fact HN has gotten further from a social media site by not displaying comment points.

nullify88··on Rockstar employee shares account of the company's union-busting efforts
Lets not forget Ubisofts uPlay which was absolutely shambolic. Blizzard's / Activision launcher was alright though. It did the job but no where to the likes of Steam which is really feature rich.
nullify88··on Google suspended my company's Google cloud account for the third time
As mentioned in their writeup, they are following documentation and best practices from Google themselves.
nullify88··on JetKVM – Control any computer remotely
I do think that JetKVM software is more polished, and has more frequent updates. Stuff like streaming images over the network is something that is handy.

Nano KVM commits have stagnated a bit, but the form factor is really nice to have everything tucked away. I wish I could run JetKVM on the Nano KVM.

nullify88··on JetKVM – Control any computer remotely
Something like Intel AMT? Some prosumer motherboards like ASRock Rack have out of band management controllers in them.
nullify88··on JetKVM – Control any computer remotely
Something like the NanoKVM-PCIe? I have both JetKVM and NanoKVM-PCIe, its nice to have options.
nullify88··on AWS multiple services outage in us-east-1
I would say even if not using Talos, Argo CD or Flux CD together with Renovate really helps to simplify the reoccuring maintenence.
nullify88··on California law forces Netflix, Hulu to turn down ad volumes
Maybe its possible to feed everything in to a model that can identify the situation or context in audio or video and block a section out because its an ad. We would not be short of training material. Latency would have to be low enough to be attractive to users.
nullify88··on California law forces Netflix, Hulu to turn down ad volumes
We do apply the same measure, adblocking. Except since companies base their businesses on ads theres a cat and mouse game at play to ensure you pay them with your attention. I'm reminded of the scene in "Airplane" where the captain is fighting off sales people in the airport. I feel the same way about the Internet.

My earliest memory of adblocking is the VHS recorder or player skipping commercials similar today to SponsorBlock and other autoskipping methods.

nullify88··on California law forces Netflix, Hulu to turn down ad volumes
YouTube does this too. We immediately fetch the remote and mute the damn thing. And I'm contemplating finding something that auto mutes for me.
nullify88··on Immich – High performance self-hosted photo and video management
I just wish it didn't need Postgres and SQLite was an option.
nullify88··on I ditched Docker for Podman
For my day job, installing software / admin access is reserved to those who work in IT / software development. Rest of the business need to go through a vetted software library.
nullify88··on I ditched Docker for Podman
Or use Microsoft MyAccess to have the users allocate a license themselves.
nullify88··on F1 in Hungary: Strategy and fast tire changes make all the difference
Less fires too!
nullify88··on My phone is an ereader now
Jeez that phone was available new for £10. Do such phones exist these days?
nullify88··on From M1 MacBook to Arch Linux: A month-long experiment that became permanenent
I have an 2015 X1 3rd Generation Broadwell ticking along running Fedora KDE too. My Enter key is cracked and some of the speakers are failing, battery health at 70% was my daily driver for its initial 5 years now it primarily runs a browser and vscode. Still very capable No problems with sleep or wake, even Intel Rapid Start hibernation works although is a huge security hole.
nullify88··on Show HN: unsafehttp – tiny web server from scratch in C, running on an orange pi
Good to see more tiny / small http servers. I'm not a fan of sticking Nginx in a container which maybe bigger than the assets its serving. A statically compiled httpd from busybox has been great for this reason but its good to see more options.
nullify88··on StarDict sends X11 clipboard to remote servers
I usually suggest not to create or login with a Samsung Account on Samsung devices. It's just another opportunity for a company to get at your data.
nullify88··on Who has the fastest F1 website (2021)
Or it maybe due to the cars and their designs being throughly tuned for the tracks they are racing on. More so when compared to previous generations of F1 cars.
nullify88··on Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 Incident on July 14, 2025
Not just that. ISPs are often subject to certain data retention laws. For Denmark (And other EU countries) that maybe 6 months to 2 years. And considering close ties with "9 eyes" means America potentially has access to my information anyway.

Judging by Cloudflare's privacy policy, they hold less personally identifiable information than my ISP while offering EDNS and low latencies? Win, win, win.

nullify88··on Monitoring My Homelab, Simply
AFAIK, you can now send OpenTelemetry directly to Prometheus. So effectively it supports both push and pull models.
nullify88··on Monitoring My Homelab, Simply
Grafana Cloud have quite a nice free tier. If you use Alloy, you don't need any persistence locally. Everything just gets shipped off.

Similar to the author, I want to run a minimalist monitoring setup and currently just use Glances. But Grafana Cloud might be my first choice if I need to expand the setup.

nullify88··on Bitchat – A decentralized messaging app that works over Bluetooth mesh networks
I commonly Signal call my partner when we are at opposite ends of the house. I can see something like this being useful to prevent using some remote Internet server to facilitate a very local call.

I wonder if there's a home lab / self hosted solution for this.
