nuclearghost··on Lunar – macOS utility to set brightness and volume on external monitors
This also saved my multi-monitor set up. Thanks so much!!
nuclearghost··on Eat for $1.50 per Day – Layoffs, Coronavirus Quarantine, Food Shortages
Ohio had to close all their indoor trampoline parks. It's getting real out there folks
nuclearghost··on 75½ Bedford Street
I had friends that had a 1/2 address in Chicago, sending them mail was a nuisance. Even the Post Office didn't know how to find it some of the times.
nuclearghost··on Netflix’s biggest bingers get hit with higher internet costs
Gears 4 Approximate size 117.53 GB

nuclearghost··on Google’s painful Gmail OAuth verification process
This is very helpful to see, along with the gmass blog mentioned within. We've been going through this process for months and it's definitely a moving target with no clear path to resolution. The whole process feels a bit Kafkaesque.
nuclearghost··on Ask HN: What books changed the way you think about almost everything?
I just finished this recently and would definitely recommend as well. It really made me question a lot of assumptions I had about humanity and history. For example it's really not obvious that the agricultural revolution should have ever taken place considering the challenges associated with changing from a proven system for survival.
nuclearghost··on Ask HN: What did you learn the hard way?
> 10. Tell those you care about you how you feel, you never know when you might lose that chance

This one very much! Never skip an opportunity to tell people they matter to you. Time and life is very fleeting

nuclearghost··on Ask HN: Is any senior dev reasonably happy with their job?
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by senior, but my title says I'm senior (6 years exp, 3 in this job). I would say I'm beyond reasonably happy. I found a good company with senior management I can believe in and co-workers who are strong technically and easy to work with. Although the industry, advertising, is no one's favorite, our mission is to make it suck less while supporting people who create real journalistic value which I can get behind.
nuclearghost··on Google engineer writing Amazon reviews on USB-C cables that don't work
Surprised none of the USB cables were a triumph
nuclearghost··on Canvid.js – tiny library for playing video on canvas elements
On iOS Safari you're limited to 2 parallel HTTP connections at a time so not a huge advantage to the multiple connections. Don't disagree with splitting it up though
nuclearghost··on Ask HN: Are we in the middle of yet another tech bubble?
I don't personally believe we're in a tech bubble like we saw in the late 90s. At worst the general public isn't at the same risk as we had with all the .com IPOs. There's a lot less liquidity which means that angels and VCs would take a much larger hit.

This presentation from Lou Kerner has some good insights. http://www.slideshare.net/loukerner/bubble-cartoon

nuclearghost··on Show HN: PolyGen App, turn gradients and photos into pretty low poly patterns
Running on iPhone 5 with iOS7 seeing a weird issue where only about the top third of the photo is rendering.

Works fine when rendering with colors.

Anyone else seen something like this?

nuclearghost··on Mistakes AngularJS Developers Make
Yeah I agree it's an oversimplification. It's tough when writing a piece like this where a deep level of language knowledge is required to make a clear explanation. I tried to lead people toward the cause without getting bogged down in too many details.

Thanks for the example!

nuclearghost··on Mistakes AngularJS Developers Make
I think what you describe is a great approach.

The reason I claimed it was a mistake for angularJS devs was that angular seed and yeoman lead to doing directory by type, which I think becomes a burden as an app scales.

nuclearghost··on Mistakes AngularJS Developers Make
A lot of things built in Angular aren't needed be SEO. When you do want it I recommend checking out https://prerender.io/
nuclearghost··on Mistakes AngularJS Developers Make
Yeah I think that's a fair point. It's easy enough to write a grunt or gulp task that does the copy. Not too hard to copy all the *.html files from the app directory. The time savings for development are worth it to me
nuclearghost··on Mistakes AngularJS Developers Make
Hey I'm the author of the article. I created a library of modules that were reused across single page apps. For individual libraries I agree it doesn't make sense, but not enough people take advantage of the module system
nuclearghost··on Startup Idea: The Best Way to Buy Furniture – Would You Use This?
I actually think this idea is pretty great. I am currently in the market for a new chair, and have a specific style in mind, but have had trouble finding it just by going to stores. I also think browsing on Amazon is a terrible shopping experience. A simple place to find furniture from different retailers could be really useful.
