The IL2CPP backend removes the need for the mono fork and is available in all modern compile targets. The Rosyln compiler also ensures unity's c# is quite modern and features such as C# 8 are on their way!

Tangentially, you can use C# 8 now, or even F# or VB in Unity if you choose to first compile them as a DLLs.

ntSean··on The evidence behind putting money directly in the pockets of the poor
Is media the only thing worth consuming? We can participate in the economy by travelling, buying gadgets, cars, experiencing good food, etc. I do not believe that ones existence is fulfilled because they haven't finished their Netflix library.

If someone wants money to engage with society in a more meaningful way, there are always jobs to allow them to do so- even if they're dirty.

You hit the nail on the head, UBI would decrease how much people are locked into undesirable jobs. However, this is a feature, not a failure of the system. Currently, we have under-utilised talent with low economic mobility who have bills to pay.

There are more than enough unemployed people to fill any gaps created.

Sources for the long term effects on the brain mentioned in the above journal quote the following "While changes in the hippocampus and parahippocampus were frequently identified, the findings were inconsistent across studies."

And the above journal also makes an effort to mention how "low to moderate quality" the data is.

For what is the world's most popular recreational drug, it's astonishing to see the lack of research committed.

ntSean··on Creators Say They’ve Cracked YouTube’s Monetization Algorithm
I’m sorry to hear you hold this view, there is a lot of great content on YouTube when you don’t subscribe to those trying to turn a quick dollar.

For example, high quality educational content on YouTube is invaluable and only possible because of the support of their audiences.

How YouTube rewards content however, is an issue.

Rewarding longer videos, incentivising click bait and prioritising regular upload schedules invite a breed of video that isn’t high quality and ought to be the focus of change.

ntSean··on Australia’s 4G network is faster than 5G: study
>If any public network was needed, it should have been wireless.

I don't believe the rural NBN customers on Wireless Satellite technology would support this premise.

Even customers in suburban shopping centres struggle with their cellular connection - hence Free Wifi being so ubiquitous.

But regardless, our conservative government relies on minerals and education rather than investing in Australia's ability to compete in a digital world.

So here's hoping we can keep up with developed nations who are making use of the high-bandwidth infrastructure made available to them today.

ntSean··on A stretching habit isn’t doing much of what people hope
Wow! Thank you so much for the link. Its amazing how similar our situation sound, my partner too would have to use her elbow for these knots. I'll be adding these stretches to my routine!
ntSean··on A stretching habit isn’t doing much of what people hope
I've had neck pain for the past few years. After visiting a number of doctors and physiotherapists and having an MRI to help diagnose - I was recommended strong anti-inflammatory medicine and massages. While it helped, this was a persistent problem. Ultimately it wasn't until I started building a routine of stretching and building strength that I've started to overcome it. I have a feeling it might be a similar circumstance to our discovery of Myopia prevention; we had evidence to suggest sunlight helped, but not a true understanding of the mechanics until recently. Stretching might not be the solution by itself, but maintaining and improving mobility is a stepping stone to healthy muscles.

I also remap caps lock to escape; for a button used so regularly, it just makes sense. Heck, who in their right mind is using caps lock more frequently than Escape!
ntSean··on Game consoles are doing better than ever
Thats a very broad statement, there are a lot of great mobile games that aren't slot machines - even some from Nintendo. Mario Run, Threes, Alto's Adventure, SPL-T, Reigns, Leap Day - phew, and thats off the top of my head; there's a lot of choice on the App Store.
ntSean··on Warning: 2016 MacBook Pro is not compatible with Linux
This is a result of improper care and applying harsh cleaning chemicals that remove the glare resistant coating - this is not a result of bad quality.
ntSean··on UI Performance Decline – OS X Tiger to Yosemite [video]
I share the same frustrations, but I guess I've also accepted that I'm not playing by the rules with my setup (especially with Plex). I hope that they do open Apple TV to more development so it isn't as foreign, it has a lot of potential, but seems to not be a focus.
ntSean··on UI Performance Decline – OS X Tiger to Yosemite [video]
You can, its actually easier than in Windows since theres no licensing issues to handle.

All of the features you've just canned, I use regularly, and don't see the huge issue that you're talking about. I receive calls on my laptop daily and I've very rarely had it fail. I find being able to reply to texts and calls insanely useful. Regardless of my anecdote all new technology is prone to bugs. To say "turn off the 10 gimmick features so you can get back to some level of sanity" is ridiculous. The feature you're talking about is Handoff, its 1 checkbox in your device. Airplay not working? I use it regularly again, with Plex and Beamer, its one of the most useful things I have connected. You say its ruined through software updates, but then go on to say that your gripe is the interaction interface? And of all things, scrolling. Wouldn't that be a pre-existing condition?

I feel like your frustration could be solved with just simply setting up your devices in a way that suits your uses, not the common denominator.

ntSean··on North Korea's Official Statement
What sources do you have to back that statement? Its quite bold of NATO to say they're not engaging them in war because we feed bad. Remember, there isn't really a good reason to attack. They're minding their own business for the most part, albeit not handling the country in the best regard, and not aligned with our views, but that really isn't reason enough to pursue in combat. If the U.S did, what support could they provide for the refugees? Its fairly common knowledge that the U.S isn't in the best position to be supplying support.
ntSean··on Countries are still paying off debt from World War 1
As your comment would suggest, we then _shouldn't_ sympathise with a country because of their history. After all, we can safely assume that everyone in that the country in question is an evil person looking to go start wars.
ntSean··on Arcadia: Unity 3D Development in Clojure
Curious myself, in what way do you find the 'huge gap' especially noticeable?
ntSean··on X to close
In Japanese variants, he is correct. When Sony westernized the playstation controller, the O and X functionality was flipped. Sony is yet to comment on the reasons why.
