nslsm··on 81yo Dodgers fan can no longer get tickets because he doesn't have a smartphone
You are stating that someone with no formal education or who is 65 years old can’t learn to use a smartphone. That is demonstrably false.
nslsm··on 81yo Dodgers fan can no longer get tickets because he doesn't have a smartphone
Read the last paragraph of my message.
nslsm··on 81yo Dodgers fan can no longer get tickets because he doesn't have a smartphone
I have absolutely no sympathy for people who choose not to get with the times. We all took our time to learn how to use a smartphone. He could have too but chose not to. Probably refused to learn to use tap to pay, ATMs, etc as well. You chose to opt out of society. You are no longer part of it.

(I’m not happy that you need an app to buy tickets, but that’s a different thing — he didn’t choose not to own a smartphone out of principle)

You are protecting a society who doesn’t care about you. Aren’t you glad?

Because George Bush is rotting in a prison cell now, isn’t he.
nslsm··on Show HN: Dull – Instagram Without Reels, YouTube Without Shorts (iOS)
Personally I think the technical solutions are unrealistic, given this is nothing but a safari wrapper.

Legal methods may be more successful.

How?
nslsm··on New patches allow building Linux IPv6-only
This reminds me of the ways the governments screw over people to force them to do things they don’t want to.
nslsm··on Claude Code's source code has been leaked via a map file in their NPM registry
Before you decide not to care about something, you are supposed to make a deep assessment to see whether you can change it. It is only after you’ve determined that the thing can’t be changed that you can choose not to care about it.
nslsm··on Claude Code's source code has been leaked via a map file in their NPM registry
That’s a reductionist and wrong reading of the argument I made.
nslsm··on Claude Code's source code has been leaked via a map file in their NPM registry
Which is not a problem if you choose not to worry about it.
nslsm··on Tell HN: Chrome says "suspicious download" when trying to download yt-dlp
yt-dlp breaks YouTube’s DRM. They could easily get the repo removed under the DMCA. They don’t.

nslsm··on I am definitely missing the pre-AI writing era
Oh no, I have had enough of people with quirky (i.e. cringey) writing on the internet. It started with those who refused to use their shift key and it's quickly devolving into something that makes you shiver when you read it. (Not to mention how easy it is to use a system prompt to make an AI write in whatever style you like.)

The issue is that there are so many awful webmasters that have websites that take hundreds of milliseconds to generate and are brought down by a couple requests a second.

If anything deepfakes will be good for the economy because if you can’t do business with people who are far away it becomes harder to outsource.

It’s been going on for a very long time. Remember USS Liberty?
nslsm··on Scott Hanselman says he's working on Windows local accounts
No. I’m just saying, in case this post gives the impression that many things break if you use a local account. It’s a completely supported setup, and even though software bugs can exist, it’s worked fine for me since forever.
