neither open source nor proprietary represents a single thing and there's a continuum between the two extremes
this license is clearly somewhere near the middle
i've taken a cut at making a license that attempts to bridge the divide - capturing many of the freedoms of open source while still requiring a subscription
from the github:
> This extension inverts brightness of web pages
i guess a related question is can it be activated for individual pages (as opposed to for-all-pages)
bright text on a dark background (at least on a display) triggers auras and nausea for me. the auras can vary a bit, but a typical one would be seeing an overlay of flickering, scrolling dark-colored horizontal bars for the next few minutes
i actually came to this thread to see if the extension supported "Light mode for everything" as an option :)
possible that combining the two as you suggest would be the best of both worlds. i need to think about the business implications for the author
i've written a "paid use" license that attempts to capture many of the freedoms of FOSS while allowing a revenue stream if a package is successful. would love any feedback
* pay to use the software * assure developers that they can also monetize their work * assure users that prices won't change unpredictably
https://github.com/db4j/pupl/blob/master/PUPL.md
would love any feedback or alternative licenses that capture similar elements
and do the same with men, and compare
not sure that we have to tools to understand these sorts of questions quantitatively, but i'd like to see at the least some qualitative data instead of opinions (whether reges or this group)
cheese making has 3 stages. milk is curdled, then strained, then pressed, and then optionally aged (i haven't tried aging yet)
raw milk curdles itself and the whey could be strained out as easily as pouring it on a bed of grass or leaves and pressed by hand or with the weight of a stone in that same bed of grass. the result is cheese
i can't buy raw milk, so my process is a bit different. i make yogurt, strain with a piece of fabric, and then press with a potato ricer
making yogurt with pasteurized skim (or near skim, or non-homogenized) is trivially easy once the bacteria exists - inoculate with a starter (which can be as easy as adding milk to a "dirty" vessel) and let it sit till it curdles. for my first batch i used stonyfield to inoculate, and have used my own yogurt (or whey) as the starter since then. heat the mixture to 110°F and let it sit for several hours. there are also strains that work at room temp (but i haven't tried them). the result isn't as thick as commercial yogurt, but it's easier to strain. homogenized milk with fat doesn't produce a strong enough curd to strain, but that's a modern problem
great work
wouldn't be surprised if there are bad apples in this ecosystem too - google can't take their policies too far or it will turn into a walled garden, but for the most part it's just users choosing convenience over sanity
this is not true. the jvm may choose to make serialization more complicated than it needs to be, but an object is nothing more than a collection of locations in memory
what's fundamentally wrong is sun/oracle's insistence on running constructors, not serialization itself
not a great article in general based on the lack of statistics, the failure to address the influence of non-hetero relationships, and the lack of a disclaimer on the reliability of survey data. but the kicker is the author ignoring the inherent connection between the ability to find sex partners and the ability to find marriage partners
and instead blaming the knowledge economy with nothing to back it up
one interesting tidbit from the article: the slow steady increase in celibate married men that doesn't appear to be matched in women
this isn't really a choice these days. the modern mind doesn't have time or attention for something as unwieldy as "involuntarily celibate". even comintern seems a bit long. we live in a world dominated by memes
the only other likely moniker this group could have ended up with today is "involuntarily fucking celibate"
surface book appears to as well, but i don't have one of them to vouch for
all without touching the mouse
searching whoishiring for java with a filter of contract returns exactly 1 result in the usa. the same search on just upwork gives 120 results, and there are 80 other sites listed
the list is very much needed
any sense of whether other people that care about such things would be willing to pay ?
at that point you're comparing a system that AMD doesn't sell to a system Intel doesn't sell
eg, my mattermost clone is https://mm.nqzero.com
just use a fake email (it's unused) and try it out. every time there's an announcement in this space i go to the landing page and am disappointed that trying out the product appears to be semi painful
