notwhiteknight··on Can I Use Data to Beat Christie's Auction Estimates?
What about guarantees? That is a large component of auction price estimates. A lot of these big name paintings are sold with the house guaranteeing a price to the seller. Can't have a full understanding of the industry without understanding that component.
notwhiteknight··on Regarding Marcus Hutchins aka MalwareTech
The case seems to stem from the takedown of a website called AlphaBay, where a large amount of new cases are now entering the US justice system.

Can someone explain what this means? Is there a news article somewhere explaining the flood of cases created by AlphaBay? Why haven't I heard of other's being prosecuted?

What happens when the thieves acquire the police? Who is going to police content, and for what purpose now? We already know that Facebook has profited tremendously from the freebooters.
notwhiteknight··on Elon Musk says Mark Zuckerberg's understanding of AI is 'limited'
Even billionaires end up wasting their lives bikeshedding.
notwhiteknight··on Ask HN: How has Satoshi Nakamoto been so good at opsec all this time?
Dead people have the best opsec.
notwhiteknight··on Unroll.me
Sounds like you have great evidence for a class-action against them. If they told their users they only retain emails for 7 days, but actually kept every email in an S3 bucket that was then sold illegally to Slice, every user of Unroll.me could sue for breach of contract, damages, etc...

Man leaves small metal object with volatile electrical connection in tightly enclosed space receiving direct sunlight on a hot day, blames metal object for ensuing damage.
notwhiteknight··on Orbit – Distributed, serverless, peer-to-peer chat application on IPFS
Interesting. Can someone explain how IPFS works? Is it like Tor? I don't have any interest in running some sort of distributed content farm that might place CP on my computer. Even if the chance of that happening is 0.00001%.
