USA used to have quite some business on the Russian soil. Sacrificing them for the sake of politics was considered needed and doable.
One thing is antisemitism and anticommunism. One thing is being against Putin and Netanyahu, for example. Putin is not communism, Netanyahu is not Israel.
Yes, you can fork Linux in Kenya, France, Russia, China and Brazil. But then, you'll get several different Linux branches, diverging more and more as time goes by.
So you answer reads like "Yes, USA gov can control Linux".
You reply with no reasoning, for sure.
But ... what if you shutdown access to all Linux kernel-related sites and repos?
Nice read, indeed. Especially the final sentence.

P.S. I am not affiliated with repsy, just stumbled upon it.
Otherwise privacy and security would be meaning basically nothing.
How this can be considered a good thing?
Let's hope no backdoor will be added there.
I feel that the so-called market decides what goes in the future and sticks in the past.
No matter how good, cheap and effective something is. If it's embraced by markets (corn whatever reason, marketing campaign included), it will succeed.
1 squared meter surface times 10 km in depth yields ... 10,000 cubic m of mass to be vaporized and then "dispersed" into the atmosphere.
At a density of 5.5 kg/dm^3 it would weight about ... 55 thousands metric tonnes of rock.
To vaporize 1 kg of liquid water it takes 2250 kcal of energy.
If that mass was water it would require 1.23e11 kcal of energy.
I suspect that both the amount of energy needed and the amount of pollution added would be unbearable.
And this is for a hole that's "just" 10 km deep.
