notinmykernel··on Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt's Leaked Stanford Talk
>> And one of the things to know about war is that the offense always has the advantage because you can always overwhelm the defensive systems.

> This is not actually one of the things to know about war. It's about as far from the truth as you can get.

... Unless you are writing the rules of war:

"Secretary of Defense Ash Carter appointed Schmidt as chairman of the DoD Innovation Advisory Board announced March 2, 2016. It will be modeled like the Defense Business Board and will facilitate the Pentagon at becoming more innovative and adaptive.

In August 2020, Schmidt launched the podcast Reimagine with Eric Schmidt.[71][72] In December 2021, Schmidt joined Chainlink Labs as a strategic advisor.[73] In October 2022, he co-authored a piece titled "America Could Lose the Tech Contest With China" for Foreign Affairs with Ylli Bajraktari, former executive director of the U.S. National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence.[74] In March 2023, Schmidt testified at a U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability hearing regarding AI.

In 2022, Schmidt was appointed to the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology, a legislative commission charged with making policy recommendations to Congress and the Executive Branch.[1]"

"Since 2023, Schmidt has been involved in building White Stork, a startup developing suicide attack drones.[2]"

notinmykernel··on FTC Announces Final Rule Banning Fake Reviews and Testimonials
> "Buying Positive or Negative Reviews: The final rule prohibits businesses from providing compensation or other incentives conditioned on the writing of consumer reviews expressing a particular sentiment, either positive or negative. It clarifies that the conditional nature of the offer of compensation or incentive may be expressly or implicitly conveyed."

Sounds like Amazon's review structure requires a complete overhaul...

notinmykernel··on Apple Prototypes and Corporate Secrets Are for Sale Online–If You Know Where
IMO, it's a personal philosophy. Similar to why hackers choose to report vulnerabilities to bug bounties vs. release findings on sites like Hack Forums.

We all know companies are predatory, and in many cases companies (looking right at you Google and Microsoft) continue to refuse to pay people for discovering, documenting and reporting high-severity vulnerabilities. That doesn't mean we as individuals forfeit our principles and become just as corrupt as the "faceless corporate entities."

notinmykernel··on DEF CON's response to the badge controversy
Dmitry didn't ask for money. He raised awareness that DEFCON had slinked away from its financial obligation to Entropic, and asked that Entropic be paid what they are owed for their work on the hardware.

Cool spin though.

notinmykernel··on Defcon stiffs badge HW vendor, drags FW author offstage during talk
... but can you tell me who is legally allowed to physically touch you in that escorting process?
notinmykernel··on Defcon stiffs badge HW vendor, drags FW author offstage during talk
A-holes and opinions; we all got them. From your comment, I see you located both tonight.
notinmykernel··on Defcon stiffs badge HW vendor, drags FW author offstage during talk
You left out the part where the "Goons" physically touched you, and forcibly removed you from a location against your will. The "Goons" have no authority to carry out such an act. And there's video footage. Congratulations on winning the lawsuit!
notinmykernel··on Puppeteer Support for Firefox
I am an active user of both Selenium and Puppeteer/Pyppeteer. I use them because it's what I learned and they still work great, and explicitly because it's not Microsoft.
notinmykernel··on Google loses antitrust suit over search deals on phones
Honestly, I'm surprised to see anyone talk explicitly about Apple internal works. Is that public knowledge?
notinmykernel··on ArchiveTeam Warrior
Reddit was quite unhappy with services that mirrored their data and made it publicly available. So much so they updated TOS for the API, and forced services to delete data and shutter.
notinmykernel··on Chevron will move its headquarters to Houston
Now that Chevron has moved to the swamp (literally; Houston is a swampy coastal prairie), can we all unite behind "draining the swamp" again?
notinmykernel··on U.S. sues TikTok over 'massive-scale' privacy violations of kids under 13
Don't forget Amazon. Amazon lost a lawsuit in 2022/2023, to which executives & high-level managers replied "it's the cost of doing business" and shrugged it off. Unless there are meaningful penalties, user privacy will continue to be violated.

We need reform ASAP.

notinmykernel··on Amazon says distraction of world events contributed to weak forecast
Amazon couldn't trick enough people into signing up for predatory Prime, or restrict customers from canceling those "add-on" subscriptions customers never knew they signed up for (because majority didn't), or auto-sign up customers to Amazon Music via dark patterns. Huh...

More distracting world events, please.
