nothinkjustai··on The last six months in LLMs in five minutes
None of it is non-trivial tho. You might think so, but it’s not.
nothinkjustai··on It is time to give up the dualism introduced by the debate on consciousness
> From a non-dual perspective either nobody is a p-zombie or everybody is a p-zombie.

Why? It’s perfectly sane to just treat claims as is. You claim you’re a p-zombie, than you are. Claim you are conscious, than you are same as me. Claim you aren’t and you get no moral affordances, let’s see how long you last with that tactic.

Clankers are not conscious, good luck convincing me otherwise idiot.

nothinkjustai··on It is time to give up the dualism introduced by the debate on consciousness
> Anesthesia is strong evidence that there is some physical process that is the person.

Not really, it only suggests that the brain function is involved in some way. If the brain is an “antenna” anesthesia could prevent it from functioning and that would be a totally consistent theory.

nothinkjustai··on It is time to give up the dualism introduced by the debate on consciousness
Is this supposed to be some sort of gotcha?
nothinkjustai··on It is time to give up the dualism introduced by the debate on consciousness
How can you even argue that we’re p-zombies? I know that I’m not. I assume others aren’t. Maybe you are?
nothinkjustai··on We let AIs run radio stations
You aren’t tempted by every single post being written by LLMs?
nothinkjustai··on Haiku OS runs on M1 Macs now
Maybe, but it’s not gonna be because of LLMs
nothinkjustai··on Haiku OS runs on M1 Macs now
Are you useful?
nothinkjustai··on 'No way to prevent this,' says only package manager where this regularly happens
Yeah no shit, if you download malicious code from the internet and run it on your computer you will get pwned. No matter if it’s from a package manager a zip file or a submodule.

However the current npm vulns used a post install script.

nothinkjustai··on 'No way to prevent this,' says only package manager where this regularly happens
Rust doesn’t have post install scripts
nothinkjustai··on Elevated error rates on Opus 4.7
Idk, I don’t vibe code so even the flash model is great for generating code for myself. I tend to do the planning and design myself though.

Harness also matters, and also provider. I was using openrouter and switched to the Deepseek api and suddenly all the tool call issues I was having resolved themselves. Flash is so damn fast at doing stuff like generating boilerplate I can’t go back to the bigger slower models.

nothinkjustai··on Elevated error rates on Opus 4.7
Because of marketing and vibes mostly.

Heck I prefer DeepSeek to both of those.

nothinkjustai··on RTX 5090 and M4 MacBook Air: Can It Game?
Fuck you got me there. Unc out
nothinkjustai··on Ontario auditors find doctors' AI note takers routinely blow basic facts
People will eventually figure out LLMs have no capacity for intent and are fundamentally unreliable for tasks such as summarization, note taking etc.
nothinkjustai··on Swift bricks to be installed on all new buildings in Scotland
Yes, just like people receiving healthcare should pay for their procedures, instead of making everyone in the nation pay for it. Abolish the NHS amirite!!!

Hmm, probably not a very good argument for you to make unless you are a libertarian, in which case you wouldn’t be complaining about tax breaks anyhow.

nothinkjustai··on RTX 5090 and M4 MacBook Air: Can It Game?
> As much as I hate to admit it, step one in most of my projects now is to ask AI about it. Maybe it’ll tell me something I don’t know.

It’s these people, not the ones who refuse to use LLMs, who are as they say, “cooked”.

nothinkjustai··on The European Union backs Italy's right to make Meta pay for news
Meta does this in Canada. These same media outlets need to be funded by the government to survive, and as such treats the government with kid gloves, very little criticism, deflection, bias etc.

So I’d say that deal is working well for both the legacy media & the Canadian government.

nothinkjustai··on Swift bricks to be installed on all new buildings in Scotland
Would prey be able to sue predators for assault as well? Or is this just a uniquely anti-human sentiment?
nothinkjustai··on Swift bricks to be installed on all new buildings in Scotland
You’re getting downvoted, but I agree. It’s never the carrot but always the stick with these kind of government initiatives and then people wonder why they’re so hated.

If they were smart they would make it a tax break, and the more you do to welcome animals on your property the bigger it is. Why just one swift brick? What about a bird house? How about a little shelter for cats? Animal lovers get rewarded and those who would rather not don’t get punished.

nothinkjustai··on The US is winning the AI race where it matters most: commercialization
Well, if they were up by 4 and now it’s 4-3 and the team is under massive pressure, “we’re still winning” is of little condolence to the fans.
nothinkjustai··on The limits of Rust, or why you should probably not follow Amazon and Cloudflare
Weird post. One could pick any language OP recommends over Rust and find just as many if not more reasons not to use it.
nothinkjustai··on The limits of Rust, or why you should probably not follow Amazon and Cloudflare
No it’s not bad at all. If you’re creating a library you might run into some hard problems, but for application code it’s pretty easy.
nothinkjustai··on Canada’s Bill C-22 Is a Repackaged Version of Last Year’s Surveillance Nightmare
Not in practice, virtually everyone votes for party and MP’s vote with their party >99% of the time.
nothinkjustai··on Canada’s Bill C-22 Is a Repackaged Version of Last Year’s Surveillance Nightmare
Yes that’s part of it. “Think of the children” is an effective strategy. You’d just expect the media to do the bare minimum of investigative reporting, especially when the CBC has an entire show dedicated to this kind of thing. But they’d rather show how Lays is shrinking the amount of chips in a bag or whatever.
nothinkjustai··on Canada’s Bill C-22 Is a Repackaged Version of Last Year’s Surveillance Nightmare
The media in Canada is given billions in subsidies by the Liberal government, and in turn they have a noticeable bias. They are especially having trouble criticizing the current government under Mark Carney, which has been pointed out by people in the media (and even on CBC).

Since this bill is indefensible they simply don’t report on it much. They’d rather talk about the opposition than the party currently in power.

nothinkjustai··on Canada’s Bill C-22 Is a Repackaged Version of Last Year’s Surveillance Nightmare
Canada like all commonwealth countries is descending into authoritarianism. It’s not far off from making speech critical of politicians and government “hate speech”, in some cases it already is. I suspect Canada has about 15-20 years before it transitions fully into a state like Venezuela, and the economy will follow shortly after.
nothinkjustai··on Postmortem: TanStack NPM supply-chain compromise
Yeah and it’s also ridiculous. They have so many bloated micro-libraries, they have a “headless range” library for controlling ranges and sliders that is marketed as being tiny at only 10kb. And their website is full of glitches and rendering bugs and it takes multiple seconds to navigate pages.
nothinkjustai··on Postmortem: TanStack NPM supply-chain compromise

nothinkjustai··on Software engineering may no longer be a lifetime career
