northstar702··on Pop!_OS bans AI-generated code from much of its codebase
Feels like AI on autopilot running OSS projects is the dream everyone is trying to get to. Tokens will never be free. Anthropic needs to go IPO. You make an interesting point about personal spend, but bad PRs are unlikely to be on purpose. But the discipline to review/clean up the slop might not be there?
northstar702··on Pop!_OS bans AI-generated code from much of its codebase
there is an ongoing thread here on a similar topic from an AWS expert (former AWS CTO)

"Apparently, AI doesn't lead to positive results in all software development teams. Customers are asking me whether they should slow down the adoption of AI in their teams.

How do you respond to that? Yes? No? "

https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7510679...

Feels like part of it is a learning habit, getting proficient in use of the tools (AI agents) themselves, and better workflow around it, but it remains AI is not perfect yet?

northstar702··on Talk Is Cheap: The Operational Impact of LLM Use
Looking forward to that hiring. So far, just layoffs. That said, there reports that consulting firms are hiring to fuel the demand around AI adoption itself. LLMs are a breakthrough like machines were. We will create new business models around them, and perhaps drives more humans. Wrt software, LLMs can make learning very easy. But with all the AI generated code, who is the "architect"?
northstar702··on Talk Is Cheap: The Operational Impact of LLM Use
Fair. I suppose, the question behind my question is -- what else do we need. Thanks.
northstar702··on Talk Is Cheap: The Operational Impact of LLM Use
Definitely not unique. Thats said, given how "easy" it is to scale LLM output, compared to human output, this pattern could be messier in the LLM era? The whole tokenmaxxing motion assumed more output equals more outcomes. What do you think?
northstar702··on Attackers hijacked popular NPM packages to replace crypto wallet addresses
On September 8, 2025, NPM reported that several libraries were compromised in a user-side man-in-the-middle attack. This research dives into the details about how the attack works.
northstar702··on FQL vs. SQL Examples
This is interesting. Do you find this simpler?
northstar702··on Kafka vs. Redpanda performance – do the claims add up?
Curious which version you tried and what k8s environment did you explore?
northstar702··on In Cod’s Shadow, Redfish Rise
Are you referring to redpanda.com or something else?
northstar702··on When to choose Redpanda instead of Apache Kafka?
Data streaming emerged as a new software category. It complements traditional middleware, data warehouse, and data lakes. Apache Kafka became the de facto standard. New players enter the market because of Kafka’s success. One of those is Redpanda, a lightweight Kafka-compatible C++ implementation. This blog post explores the differences between Apache Kafka and Redpanda, when to choose which framework, and how the Kafka ecosystem, licensing, and community adoption impact a proper evaluation.
northstar702··on What I wish someone would have told me about using RabbitMQ (2020)
is your thesis available to read? Jepsen and these concepts for databases are certainly very different from those for kafa, as we heard from Kyle during the Jepsen testing for Redpanda. Someone needs to write about those perceptions!
northstar702··on Jepsen: Redpanda 21.10.1
The blog for a deeper dive into results, fixes, and discussion on the write behavior in the kafka protocol. https://redpanda.com/blog/redpanda-official-jepsen-report-an...
northstar702··on Jepsen: Redpanda 21.10.1
Thank you. Fixed.

what do we define as a game engine vs a graphic engine?
northstar702··on Ask HN: Where can I see many examples of real companies' software architecture?
I thought this was really useful in getting a quick overview of a variety of systems in the real world, even though the book itself is designed to answer interview questions. https://www.amazon.com/System-Design-Interview-Insiders-Guid...
northstar702··on Types of events in event-driven systems
So always write to a transactional queue first and then write to the database by reading sequentially from the queue?
northstar702··on Types of events in event-driven systems
Would it make sense to always write to a transactional queue first and then write to the database by reading sequentially from the queue?

Are there other wasm runtimes to consider? Why v8?

Thx. Useful feedback. We will take this into account as we iterate.

What do you find confusing? Would be interested in your feedback.
northstar702··on Show HN: Collected Notes – A note-taking blogging app I made
What is the stack that you used for building this app? Pretty slick!
northstar702··on Launch HN: Fly.io (YC W20) – Deploy app servers close to your users
You'd want to pair up with a global database like FaunaDB or Cosmos DB for the data backend.
northstar702··on Show HN: EasyDB – A One-Click Ephemeral Database
This is neat. What's the actual database behind this? What kind of data model/consistency/isolation does it offer?
northstar702··on The boring technology behind a one-person Internet company (2018)
One hopes that GraphQL abstractions will enable the decoupling. So if you opt for a database that offers GraphQL natively, it might address the issue. You do have to learn the GraphQL ecosystem (new tools/language etc.)
northstar702··on Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL Serverless
Is there any scenario where you wouldn't want to use a serverless db? Makes me wonder why any db shouldn't be serverless in this data and age for the benefits that you mention.
northstar702··on FaunaDB 2.5.4
Would you give some more insight into your opinion? What latency/performance are you targeting -- have you tried using a system like this to arrive at your conclusion?
