northernsausage··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
The mood is very much for re-joining in the UK.BREXIT was supposed to be the first domino that killed the EU but it very much didn't work because the average European likes a lot of what the EU has done for them. There are critiques sure but its not a dead system.
northernsausage··on Flat Chair by Sara Paculdo
This should be the top response tbh.
northernsausage··on Nearest Pint
Its only 9am in the UK and the demand means its has already serving a 520.
northernsausage··on New Mexico court orders Meta to pay $567m over harms to children’s mental health
Nothing like a business being held accountable* for all the US free-trade & deep state nutcases to appear on here.
northernsausage··on The AI bubble is popping; we just don't know it yet
I mean we are due our 6-8 year financial crash that we won't learn from. Once again it'll be coming from the USA's feral financial investments all to be bailed out by the tax player whilst the rest of the world picks up the pieces. Maybe its time we moved away from the petro-dollar if the USA can't be trusted to keep its finances in order.
northernsausage··on Our position on open-weights models
This USian death spiral season sure is picking up speed
northernsausage··on US citizen charged after GrapheneOS phone wipes during airport search
If this happened in an EU country you'd all be wetting yourselves, but for some reason the rooms different today. The professional advice we are given traveling to the US is back up you phone, wipe it, travel and restore once you are comfortable. Sad state of affairs guys
northernsausage··on OpenAI and Anthropic unite against open-weight AI risks to their bottom line
The other 95.8% of the world has entered the chat.
northernsausage··on Age verification for social media, the beginning of the end for a free internet?
Whilst getting excited about 'loss of freedom' the reason these companies are getting forced into this is because they've become so large, fundamentally evil and untrustworthy that we can't regulate them in to doing better so we have to ban susceptible citizens from consuming their output. See tobacco, alcohol, porn, cannabis, driving licences for other examples. /s

As a photographer I say "down with this sort of thing"

"Closing the month with fewer errors."

Inspiring quote there.

northernsausage··on Appearing productive in the workplace
It's a small family run company that turns over multi million on bespoke stone pieces. AI is rotting away at the core of the business from leadership to customer service. I was passionate before the rot, but I've got a new job starting in 5 weeks and I can't wait. Perhaps you are self projecting a little, these people got employed on good wages and have the skills the just don't use them anymore. I hate the future.
northernsausage··on Photoshop's challenges with focus, pt. 2
I use PS every single day and I can't tell you how frustrating the select and mask tool is to actually use. I've rolled back to 2020 version that seems to be easier to use but dumber product.
northernsausage··on Appearing productive in the workplace
Also customers have started sending 2 page long tickets copy pasted from GPT (keeping the text formatting, font etc) trying to worm their way around consumer law and using floral language that doesn't go anywhere. Responding in seconds after I respond to them with another 2 pages of fluff. Just a waste of my time.
northernsausage··on Appearing productive in the workplace
My line manager using a lazy single line description of a product is generating whole product listings and HTML for our web shop, never checking it. SEO is poor, views and conversion are collapsing. Upper management is responding to my serious issues with ChatGPT bullet point lists that don't address the problem. Video conferences I can see people typing into and reading back GPT instructions, suppliers are sending AI generated product images. 3rd party site devs are running buggy site deployments with Claude Code written as co author. I can't take it anymore, its an office of zombies.
northernsausage··on I bought Friendster for $30k – Here's what I'm doing with it
In a world where I am trying to use my phone much less due to ingress of tracking, destroying my mind etc having a social media where its required is a bit of a no-no for me tbh. Additionally I feel like this puts more friction on those of us that are shy and weird, for us the internet and online places are where we can be ourselves. I wouldn't ask you if I could follow you on Twitter, I'd just do it because I find your stuff interesting. Putting a hurdle in the way of connection might sound daft but is enough for many not to use it or miss-connections.

For me the special sauce that's been taken away from SM is just seeing my friends stuff, I want to see your dog with out it having to be a 2min video with onscreen graphics, SEO keyword optimisation in the post title and brand tags. Show me your fluffy dog updates, just dont force me to ask you about it first.

northernsausage··on Google broke its promise to me – now ICE has my data
USA, are you ok bro?
northernsausage··on DaVinci Resolve – Photo
As a professional photographer and mostly stills editor I am really excited to get to learn more advanced colour editing using this software, already using it for some video at a novice level. Thankfully I don't get much video work to do but learning the skills on stills is going to really improve my skills in motion. - I'll wait for the reviews but really looking forward to cancelling my adobe sub.
northernsausage··on DaVinci Resolve – Photo
I honestly hope there is a whole suite of middle and upper management at Adobe sweating right now. I'll wait for the reviews but this looks like a total win for me as 90% stills and already using resolve for the other 10% and having had 10 years of Adobe bleeding me dry whilst basically not developing Lightroom (the only tool I need) I am looking to jump, no LEAP from their subscription service.
northernsausage··on Why Sora Failed: $15M/day inference cost vs. $2.1M lifetime revenue
As a product photographer/videographer - No its not good enough to understand products so each scene its different, you can't storyboard or collaborate with it,. For high end products (where the money is), colour shape, scale matter and its just not consistent enough for professionals. For cheap tiktop slop products is fine because what arrives it never what you ordered anyway.

The files are a pig to try and edit as well, making them beyond the generation and prompt costs expensive. At that point you might as well go and just film the ad.

northernsausage··on Why Sora Failed: $15M/day inference cost vs. $2.1M lifetime revenue
Story heavily edited by AI about an AI company with an AI product that makes AI videos that is closing so they can spend money on some other AI product. All seasoned with some AI goop images. I hate the future.
