noptic··on Court: Google infringed patents, must pay 1.36 percent of AdWords revenue
I´m a peacefull and calm person, which despites violent but the more I read about US patent law the more I want to set a torch to the trolls and kill them with fire.

I know that this is not very constructive. I know that violence is not a solution. But seeing what these [insert insult here] do to our industry I just can not help myself.

noptic··on King: Our approach to IP
Creating a good brand is hard work, and king was not willing to invest in it.

"Otherwise, it would be much easier for future copycats to argue that use of the word “Saga” when related to games, was fair play."

Well it IS fair play.

If king wants a unique brand choosing a genric word used in many game titles in the last decades was a bad move.

King messed up all others developers must pay the price.

noptic··on HTTP 2.0: GTFO (General Termination of Future Operations)
It is ok because it makes sense. Unlike other (stupid) acronym jokes, GTFO describes the purpose very well. It is funny the first time you read and usefull because you can renember/recognice it better than TS.

IMHO this is a bacon-salad problem:

Add some bacon (js) to your salad and you have a healthy and balanced meal.

make a "salad" out of bacon and and mayo dressing and you have a problem.

First of all: News != Truth

I do not belive all Texans (or even the most of them) are as bad as one might think, but the tiny bits of information we get about Texas paint an ugly picture.

We do not get Reports like "Things are going well in Austin!". In the internatiol news reports. We get reports like "Stricter abortion laws, force clinics to shut down", "Armed Militia hunting illegal imgrants at the Border", "Patent troll wins in Texas", "...".

Texas is a great target for critics all over the world:

Texas is well known and is closly associated with Cowboys, strict laws, and the death sentence.

Liberals have someone, to bash and local conservativs are glad that critics get distracted by someone far far away.

So I´m sorry Texas reputation is bad, not only among IT folks, and not only in small hardcore leftist cells.

I do _NOT_ say that all this true. Hell, I would be shocked if it really was!

noptic··on In France, reseeding will soon be illegal due to firms’ patents
This will only apply to "quality" seeds which went through "quality ensurance" and are sold by large companys.

So what is the logical consequence?

Bann all other seeds! This is not a joke http://www.collective-evolution.com/2013/06/05/european-comm...

noptic··on Oh My Glob
Sorry but sounds awfully arrogant.

Lowest common intelligence? Sounds like anyone unfamillar with perl is stupid.

Perl is very different from other languages an has a very special syntax. The only way to REALLY understand perl is reading and writting lots of perl code from different authors.

In perl nearly every problem can be solved in many different ways.

If you are used to one style of perl you might still have trouble understanding the code someone else wrote.

noptic··on End of Inception decoded [video]
So what is reality? Are sure sure it is realy real? And where is the difference between dreaming you lived 70 years or really living them? You will nver know the difference.

We all create ou own "reality" out off faulty perceptions and memorys.

"Playing a game" is a bad example because it is hardly compareable to the complex illusion we really ( ;) ) live in. The dream world of inception however is as complex as as the "real" world (at least from a humans point of view).

Sorry but you are sailing into a philosphical ocean with only a inflateable animal as support.

noptic··on The Narcissism of Small Code Differences (2008)
What did I learn from this? Srtick to "no ticket -> no change" If you spot a problem write a ticket and discuss the problem.

If there really is a problem it will be fixed. If it is not considered a Problem it will be archived and documented as "NOT a problem".

And if the 'fix' breaks the system you will not be toasted because hey we talked about this and all(including the boss) agreed we should change this.

noptic··on Diary of a programmer with no clue about marketing
Yes bacon is "a dead animal", but the typical bacon smell is not related to that. Bacon smells of cured meat, and there if you fry some cured vegatarian/vegan products you get a simmilar smell. (Deep fryed, thin sliced, King Oyster Mushrooms with smoked Salt).

noptic··on MIT Wristband Could Make Air Conditioning Obsolete
Interesting article - awfull title

The device can make you feel a bit better but it can NOT replace an AC.

It was never designed to replace an AC.

If this was up for purchase i would get one especialy because it is portable and maybe it can be coupled with additional technology (measure blood preasure , acceleration, rfid access tags,...). People have been wearing wrist bands for ages (and even used them as currency) so it seems a good position for a gadget.

noptic··on Java Virtual Machine in pure Node.js
users do care about the tools they know. Our perl based webapp must interact with java, windows services, ... you name it.

You should not use virtual runtimes for everything your application does but using them in overnight cronjobs is ok.

Right now we are working on some middleware because the customers wants to use existing reporting tools(c#/windows only) with our product(perl/linux).

>Look how fast and simple this is! > >Yeah nice so how do I genearte my <wateva> reports? > >Well we can do the same with our <another> reporting service! > >No I want to keep my <goodOldstuff> based reports can you integrate those?

noptic··on Why Meteor will kill Ruby on Rails
This is a discussion about a javascript framework. Meteor relys on javascript on the client and the server so how should it work with noscript?

If you want to use a javascript tool you´ll have to add an exception for this tool.

noptic··on NSA monitored calls of 35 world leaders
> nobody really cares about NSA spying on him (at least here in Germany).

Please only speak for yourself. To few people care about it, but "nobody" is just plain wrong.

noptic··on Why Care About 30,000 Notes?
But if you do not take care the "more important things" will have to be refactored or even rewritten allo over because you build them on a poorly performing base.

Finding the bottlenecks should always be a priority. Fixing them can be done at a later point.

noptic··on Free Jeremy Hammond
>"In November 2012, after being held for eight months without trial, Hammond was denied bail ..."

So he is already in prison for 1 1/2 years without being sentenced?

Sounds like an interesting "justice" system.

I understand you can not let him walk, but eight month without a trial? And then he was denied bail? And why solitary confinement?

noptic··on Google Web Designer
This might be true, but I think you miss the point.

People will use the enviroment where the tools run stable.

noptic··on Programming is a Terrible Job
"um yeah nice, just ... remove the comments. And whats that tool? You can use Emacs for that! And we already have a mechanism for that just put a sub in <that> namespace and name it on_db_<whatever>_insert_trigger!"

Then I go home and write pure OO coffescript/C#. The company is great, but we have very different views on how software should be desigened.

noptic··on Why can a scam company raise $40 Million Series C + $76 Million Series B?
We can not know this from the screenshoot alone. The membership itself is mentioned.

Maybe the fee is mentioned on a other screen.

As far as i renember it is not really "illegal",but the contract is invalid.

noptic··on Testing code is simple
TDD is really enjoiable in Coffee Script. Since Coffee Script supports literate code you can write your specs in markdown and embed litte code snippets which verify that your claims are true.

Currebtly I am only toying with it in one of my pet projects but it seems promising.

noptic··on Patent troll Lodsys demands $5,000 from Martha Stewart. That was a bad idea
Troll description from From D&D:

"Trolls are infamous for their regenerative abilities, able to recover from the most grievous of wounds or regenerate entire limbs given time.

Severing a troll's head results merely in temporary incapacitation, rather than death. After cutting off a troll's head or other limbs, one must seal the wounds with fire or acid to prevent regeneration.

Because of this, most adventurers will typically carry some sort of implement capable of creating fire."

IMPORTANT NOTE: So not take this literaly.

Diping a Lodsys exec in acid sounds like fun, but you will get in serious trouble!
