nopenopenopeno··on JSON Crack – A tool that generates graph diagrams from JSON objects
What is a use case for this? Is indentation not more or less ideal for visualizing hierarchical data?
nopenopenopeno··on Fastmail Down?
It’s a very good web interface imo
nopenopenopeno··on A working implementation of text-to-3D DreamFusion, powered by Stable Diffusion
One cannot help but notice the success cases are expected to have symmetry along at least one axis, whereas the failure cases are not.

nopenopenopeno··on The 'attention economy' corrupts science
>Now you can force your idiotic, or great ideas onto the screens of millions of people you'll never meet.

No you can’t. Attention is scarce. That’s why it’s called “attention economy”. In fact, it was far easier to force idiotic ideas onto the screens of millions of people before the internet came along. That’s what TV commercials were.

nopenopenopeno··on “Privacy”.com–Yeah Right
It would have been funnier if they used privacy.org.

I never expected them to provide any privacy of any sort, but I don’t think they could make matters worse. Privacy.com has been extremely convenient for me, private or otherwise.

nopenopenopeno··on Impoverished Emotional Lives
He absolutely predicted that. According to Marx, in capitalism, relations between people become predominated by their relations to capital. It is not a separate phenomenon.
nopenopenopeno··on Sauna use as a lifestyle practice to extend healthspan
What is “healthspan”?
nopenopenopeno··on Sauna use as a lifestyle practice to extend healthspan
Like I said, if you have a sauna in your home and the time to use it, you’re rich enough that the above holds true. Whether that’s most people or a only few.
nopenopenopeno··on Sauna use as a lifestyle practice to extend healthspan
That’s a moot point. If you have a sauna in your home and the time to use it, you’re rich enough that the above holds true.

Karl Marx predicted this. See: Estranged Labor (1844)

nopenopenopeno··on How a Stable Diffusion prompt changes its output for the style of 1500 artists
I am a filmmaker and most films are essentially crafted this way. Beyond hiring and securing resources, directors essentially create by communicating ideas in short prompts because there isn’t enough time to do anything more.

I could absolutely see an AI model doing the job of an entire film crew. I have issues with this, but only with respect to the longer term aggregate affects on culture in the broad sense. I cannot honestly believe that much would be lost from the perspective of one project or another.

David Hockney was a big disappointment.

Edward Hopper was pretty impressive.

Based on what I see on the road, I think it’s more than safe to say Model 3 sells much better.
nopenopenopeno··on House Democrats debut new bill to limit US police use of facial recognition
It’s far from perfect, but this is probably the best proposal I’ve ever heard except the federal agencies would need to be more broken up.
nopenopenopeno··on House Democrats debut new bill to limit US police use of facial recognition
Their point is a good one. If the basis for the legislation is merely the shortcomings of the existing technology, then the legislation will be deemed obsolete once the technology improves.
nopenopenopeno··on Magic Leap 2: The most immersive AR platform for enterprise
According to the expressions on the other peoples’ faces, it seems like there was actually some awareness of how ridiculous it was. Those aren’t expressions of amazement. They’re more like “look at that guy trying to drink coffee with a VR headset on his face. What a tool!”
nopenopenopeno··on Magic Leap 2: The most immersive AR platform for enterprise
I’m sorry to say it but “honest entrepreneurs” are just failed bullshitters. Entrepreneurism is attractive because it’s the closest thing to freedom under capitalism, and the closest thing to dictatorship.
nopenopenopeno··on Magic Leap 2: The most immersive AR platform for enterprise
I have been really looking forward to this. It’s a shame that the video is so awful! Why would anybody go to a coffee shop or public park to put on a VR headset? What were they thinking???
nopenopenopeno··on UK pensions hit with margin calls as gilts and sterling slide
They will go hungry, though. “Socialise the losses” means bailing out the banks, not the workers.
nopenopenopeno··on Nord Stream: Tie-ins and hyperbaric welding
It’s very well-known. I remember it playing on CNN in February when it happened. There was a lot of discourse in the media about it.

nopenopenopeno··on Integrating with Fastmail
Wow. Good to hear. In that case, I should probably go back to using it.
nopenopenopeno··on Guido was right, there should be no lambda in Python (2018)
Python supports multi-line lambdas (use parentheses). However, it does not support lambda functions. Python lambdas can only be expressions.
nopenopenopeno··on Integrating with Fastmail
Hopefully they can use this to add a long-desired ‘scheduled send’ feature to fastmail web and apps.
nopenopenopeno··on Does Someone Know My Name?
That’s right, because many departments have their effectiveness undermined by legislation with the intent of undermining the existence of those departments altogether.
nopenopenopeno··on Douglas Engelbart Invented the Future
A big piece of the puzzle is missing from the article. Government funding to academic endeavors was drastically reduced across the board in the 1970s, thanks to sweeping neoliberal reforms. Mass privatization took over and businessmen started running everything.

Computer historians always downplay this major historical hingepoint for a few reasons, but usually because doing so helps conceal just how much the modern computer industry depends on technology which could only have been developed by the public sector.
