nopcode··on SteamOS Linux 3.8 released as stable
Yes, they are Arch and Fedora Atomic variants respectively and don't require any accounts or corporate affiliation.
nopcode··on What did you love about VB6?
For the life of me I cannot figure out why we do not have a successful Windows Forms-like toolkit for the web that took off.
nopcode··on Helldivers 2 devs slash install size from 154GB to 23GB
Nixxes has such a good reputation in my book that their name immediately removes any porting-fears when I see they are responsible for a release.
nopcode··on Linux gamers on Steam cross over the 3% mark
Those all have poor reputations. There's a reason why ESEA/FACEIT has been around all this time.
nopcode··on Linux gamers on Steam cross over the 3% mark
Connect keyboard & mouse to the console
nopcode··on Fastmail desktop app
It only says "native notifications". Or did they change the webpage?
nopcode··on Show HN: Base, an SQLite database editor for macOS
With a tool like this, what's the recommended approach to deal with schema changes (migrations) for my apps/deployments using this db?
nopcode··on Thunderbird: Fluent Windows 11 Design
betterbird has "better" in the name
nopcode··on GLP-1s are breaking life insurance
I'm in the exact situation you describe:

Overweight due to emotion-eating and stress-eating, taking GLP1.

Now I can binge-eat until I'm full or sick (mostly sick) and maintain weight. If I'd go off GLP1 now my weight would skyrocket.

nopcode··on Zorin OS
The "native linux versions" are typically just the windows games with an old build of wine/proton/etc.
nopcode··on Denmark to tackle deepfakes by giving people copyright to their own features
The problem of filming/photographing in public is not new and this type of legislation already exists in many (all?) European countries and falls under existing privacy laws...

If a deepfake is made of someone, that person was clearly the subject of the image/video and thus violates his/her privacy. This extra legislation would help protect in case the original image/video was taken with consent (so no privacy issue).

nopcode··on Ruby on Rails Audit Complete
It does now, but it took a few years for rails to do what nodejs did when it came out (the live chat demo app).
nopcode··on Ruby on Rails Audit Complete
I keep reading about a shortage of phoenix jobs. Any advice?
nopcode··on Ask HN: Anyone making a living from a paid API?
cloud reps get commission for services sold via their marketplace. Often they even have a bigger financial incentive to sell third party products over native GCP/Azure stuff.
nopcode··on CheerpJ 4.1: Java in the browser, now supporting Java 17 (preview)
Interesting how this is perceived as impressive (and it is!), but we had runescape running in the browser over 20 years ago already.
nopcode··on Lazarus Release 4.0
I believe you are referring to their community forum. The link to "their own website" is in the left sidebar.
nopcode··on What It Takes to Defend a Cybersecurity Company from Today's Adversaries
I haven't seen American cybersecurity companies share meaningful threat intel about any American threat campaigns. This is not new.
nopcode··on FreeDOS 1.4 Is Here
Or the maintained open source alternative Free Pascal and its Free Pascal IDE.
nopcode··on Deafening Silence from the Cybersecurity Industry
Original article is removed?

nopcode··on Show HN: DrawDB – open-source online database diagram editor (a retro)
that's really impressive.
nopcode··on Wealthy Americans have death rates on par with poor Europeans
Of course, local climate is also a huge factor. You also see that within EU and USA.
nopcode··on Mozilla rewrites Firefox's Terms of Use after user backlash
Why is Ladybird going to be more successful than all the other failed browsers?
nopcode··on Tesla sales in Europe down 45% in January
> Hybrid cars only make sense from a CO2 perspective if you charge them and drive exclusively on electricity inside cities, with only an occasional fuel refill before long distance trips.

For many people the local fiscal perspective outweighs the CO2 perspective. Hybrids are often financially speaking more interesting than thermal due to tax incentives.

nopcode··on LibreOffice 400M Downloads, and Counting
I believe it's understood that OnlyOffice devs are (mostly) Russian. And that in todays world Russian software companies have to go through hoops to be able to send/receive invoices/contracts/etc.

Some parts of their portfolio are not FOSS, these are the components in the commercial edition (the hosted/embeddable version of onlyoffice).

I have customers running OnlyOffice and we've never seen anything suspicious in our security tooling.

So I believe it comes down to your opinion/mindset around the whole Russia thing.

nopcode··on AI founders will learn the bitter lesson
This all sounds very similar to the hundreds of excel/spreadsheet "killers" out there.

But excel math is easy to outperform, ChatGPT etc wont be.

nopcode··on Updates to H-1B
How is it possible that the labour force suddenly produced all those tech workers domestically during a pandemic?

What's not adding up is the qualifications of those people that got overhired.

nopcode··on Dumb TVs deserve a comeback
Might also be dependent on your location.

I have a EU model (LG) and I was able to decline some privacy popups which gives me a functional but dumbed-down version of the OS.

nopcode··on Gemini 2.0: our new AI model for the agentic era
> What can you tell me about this sculpture?

> It's located in London.

Mind blowing.

nopcode··on SQLite changed temp file prefix after McAfee users called devs to complain (2006)
They reduce overal risk to the business while having bearable impact (ransomware also hogs CPU, RAM, disk and net).
nopcode··on OpenBSD 7.5 via QEMU on Hetzner physical machine (no phys. access / KVM console)
Signify was created so that a human can relatively easily eyeball the hash and make sure it's legit.

If you're just relying on HTTPS alone it means you're essentially trusting the certificate store that Hetzner put there for you.
