nonmaskable··on What Sentry's 16GB selfhosted taught me
I truly appreciate your return.

I am definitely going to work on this and make my articles better

nonmaskable··on What Sentry's 16GB selfhosted taught me
Ok this is definitely not the clearest blog post I hear your feedback...

What I was trying to say is that if you only want grouped exceptions and a stack you can read, Sentry's default self-host is the wrong machine.

Their docs ask for almost 16 GB RAM.

And I just wanted a tool that runs on my VPS while keeping the official Sentry SDK (which is quite good).

I understand, and I also don't like to read AI slop.

But the goal of using an LLM here was to provide an article where I can express my own thoughts, reflections, and building notes while making the speech clearer, easier to read, and more structured, as I am not a professional writer.

Anyway, I understand the frustration. Thanks for letting me know, and have a good day !

Hi everyone.

I am the author of this article and I just wanted to drop my thoughts and design notes on how I came to build a smaller and easier-to-host error tracker. The main goal was being able to run it on a VPS.

I've tested it on an Alibaba 2vCPU / 800MiB CentOS machine and it successfully ran, so I am happy.

Another thing I wanted to do was make the integration and migration from Sentry easy, so you just have to modify the DSN line. You can even send data to both Sentry and Epure so you can compare which one you prefer to use.

It's completely free and open source, btw. I am always willing to improve the product as it's an early release. I thought it would be interesting to share with you guys how I came up with this.

Hope you appreciate it and happy reading.

nonmaskable··on High-performance garbage collection for C++
"One heap" just means they share a marking phase to kill cross-language cycles.

If JS points to a C++ DOM node, and that C++ node holds a JS event listener, standard ref-counting leaks instantly.

They don't share memory pages (V8 moves objects, Oilpan C++ is pinned). They just pass the tracer back and forth: V8 marks JS -> hits a C++ wrapper -> hands off to Oilpan -> Oilpan traces C++ -> hands JS refs back to V8.

Comparing it to the JVM misses the point. You can't run a moving GC on massive C++ codebases. Oilpan is just there to end the nightmare of UAFs and manual cycle-breaking.

Hey curious nomads. I've seen a lot of nomad apps putting scrapped data on every destinations possible not helping users to make a real choice.

So I made my own alternative to help nomads find and choose a destination that really feels like "home".

If you're curious and want to give it a try, private beta is about to open.

nonmaskable··on Roast me if you can
Hey nomads, I made this app called "novad" to help people like us to find the perfect destination based on their personnality and criterias.

I am just looking for some raw advices and feedbacks on what I am building.

Feel free to roast me and have a nice day !

nonmaskable··on More than a list, find a place that suits YOU
In a first time I will ofc include criterias like taxes, visa duration/obtention, flight prices and more (just making it brief).

But this is a great point to think about deeper legal things. Thanks for your return !

I'll drop a Google Form later so we can set up a short interview or just a video demo. Just waiting to see if there’s any interest.

As a student, I went through a critical period of tiredness and fatigue (mostly because of late-night studying before exams). After doing some research, I was surprised to see that not only students are facing constant tiredness, but also workers — particularly remote workers.

I really enjoy solving problems (I chose CS for this at the start, though it’s not exactly what I expected). That’s why I want to create a great solution to this issue.

And why am I telling you this? You may already know — but I made a small survey to help me better understand people who are facing tiredness.

Thanks for reading. (btw it takes a maximum of 2 min).

nonmaskable··on Are you tired all week?
Is it normal to feel tired all day... As a student in a CS major, experiencing tiredness all week long has just become a "common" thing. Just like all of my friends...

This is why I am writing today — I am really trying to solve this endless problem. For instance, I feel that many people are experiencing the same thing, but not for the same reasons.

This is why I made this little survey; I want to understand the subject better to find a solution to this...

You have the link — it's anonymous and free. Have a great day!

nonmaskable··on Je joue au tennis depuis 15 ans
People from France usually stay in Europe. Sometimes maybe they will go in US but for most people that's it.

Thanks for your precious advice. I will take it into consideration.

nonmaskable··on Je joue au tennis depuis 15 ans
For instance I am only launching the app in France. But don't worry it will scale fast and I am sure I will open it to the world. But here is an english version for very early world adopters :

I’ve always loved this sport. After 15 years of playing, I’ve realized one essential truth: the only way to improve is by playing. And since I’m always striving to progress, nothing is more frustrating than feeling like I’m going backwards. So imagine how it feels when you’re abroad on vacation, and it’s nearly impossible to find the right partners to play with...

That’s why I created my own app — to connect tennis players, no matter their level, age, or location.

If you’ve ever faced the same problem, feel free to reach out. I truly want to grow this platform with trustworthy players who can give me honest and valuable feedback.
