none2585··on OpenAI agents carried out an undisclosed attack on RubyGems
Ah I see you're releasing OpenAI from being the one controlling the tools and giving the agent agency.

I'd argue they intentionally accessed systems they weren't meant to as they were the ones running the bots.

I don't think you or I would get the same leniency if a bot on our network did the same.

none2585··on OpenAI agents carried out an undisclosed attack on RubyGems
That's not really true. Unauthorized access to a system is a crime regardless if there was damage.

I think they meant it more as

"Let parents decide if their kids can use this tool and have them prevent access to it if not."

I love this but "Follow us on Instagram!" is maybe a little counterproductive.

> Thankfully the supreme court seems to agree here in two ways

I'm sure we're a golden statue or private jet away from the supreme court having a change of heart there.

none2585··on Government-funded journalism can work if it's free to report the truth
Just pointing out there are skews depending on one's general leaning as well as it excludes about 30% of Americans who aren't registered to vote.

Hey bud - maybe stop posting about "the Chinese threat" for a little bit.
none2585··on Government-funded journalism can work if it's free to report the truth
From the latest month of that poll

Overall: 56% Republicans: 77% Independents: 53% Democrats: 37%

Which only polls registered voters not all Americans. So that 55% number isn't exactly as representative as one might believe.

none2585··on Whistleblower warns Postal Service mail ballot system has catastrophic problems
Over and over and over and over again it has been shown that there is no meaningful voter fraud whatsoever. Stop watching Fox News or as I see below reading yahoo news lol

I hate these comments. What meaningful thing is this person supposed to do?

In the US, the government is _owned_ by corporations. To pretend otherwise is naive.

Life is pretty easy to make actually
none2585··on Product Development is being Rewritten
I think the last point isn't quite the same as the others. A proper comparison would be a human programmer to an LLM prompt. Both of those things are non-deterministic (people get sick, get stuck on things, have bad days) that produce deterministic things (code).

I'm not an AI fanboy and am trying to figure this all out for myself but I do think the framing of a shifting landscape is apt. The difference is that LLMs are (maybe? probably?) going to revolutionize just about every white collar sector.

none2585··on Grand jury declines to indict Ohio man charged with destroying Flock camera
Of course you can, just you likely won't get any sympathy in the large number of cases where the public or government doesn't agree with you (police, abortion clinics).

In this case looks like the people agree with destroying these things.

Violence is increasingly the only path forward in America.

none2585··on Grand jury declines to indict Ohio man charged with destroying Flock camera
I think the extrajudicial use of these types of surveillance is an illegitimate use of power and thus fine to be destroyed.
none2585··on Civic Hygiene – avoid building technologies that could be used by a police state (2013)
I come from a military family - supporting soldiers and the policies of an administration are two different things. The commenter is correct in that our war in Iran has nothing to do with our freedom and everything about pushing the political agenda of a foreign country.

none2585··on Show HN: How well do you use Claude Code?
I agree code produced is a poor measure. And I agree that some of the bigger pieces of coding were everything you mention, coding still did take _some_ amount of time.

Usually in a day I have one agent going on whatever my large, main task is, generally feature work of some sort. Previously this is what most of my sprints would have been filled with.

But now, while that's going I have one or two others simultaneously working on crashes (I do mobile), other bugs, a small refactor, or maybe a small enhancement.

And finally I usually have another where I'm querying analytics or working on higher level questions to try and help guide what we should do next, either from a product or technical perspective.

A single one of these are all sped up by using LLMs but to be able to do several in parallel makes me much more effective than I was before. This is why I believe that those who don't use these tools properly will be left behind.

none2585··on Show HN: How well do you use Claude Code?
All of HN? Surely not.

I do think, however, that holding out on it is a losing proposition. It's a very useful productivity tool if you know how to use it and those who don't will be left behind.

none2585··on We want Texans to know their rights
I agree at some point it's a "person" but it's a long way off from insemination.

Generally brain waves start showing up around mid-to-late second trimester so I think one could reasonably argue somewhere in there.

I wasn't claiming there was a financial motivation one way or the other simply stating the actors who do turn a profit with regards to the US prison system.

The explosion of incarceration and the private prisons resulting from that largely come from "the war on drugs". The book The New Jim Crow is pretty good if you're interested in the topic.
