noname120··on macOS Container Machines
I agree, it’s so much better than Docker Desktop, Podman, and Colima. And not just by a small margin, it feels several orders of magnitude faster and more lightweight thanks to its WSL2-like architecture.
noname120··on Claude Desktop spawns 1.8 GB Hyper-V VM on every launch, even for chat-only use
The Codex app slows to a crawl after a few back and forths. In fact it’s so bad that I had to completely switch to CLI, where at least it’s the optimized terminal that takes care of the rendering rather than whatever monstrous electron scaffolding they use

Claude is entirely vibecoded and it shows
noname120··on Can the stockmarket swallow Anthropic, SpaceX and OpenAI?
Not true, they collectively lose investors if they become less attractive. Probably not an overnight thing, but if people are told that index funds are not attractive anymore then increasingly fewer people will put their money in them vs a hand-picked portfolio.
noname120··on I think Anthropic and OpenAI have found product-market fit
It was true 6 months ago, not anymore. Frontier models now outperform developers on many tasks, be it on quality/readability/maintainability, and let’s not talk about speed…
noname120··on Meta blocks human rights accounts from reaching audiences in Saudi Arabia, UAE
It’s off-topic.

I’ve never heard a single time social media companies say that social media would spread democracy. Sounds like a straw man to me
noname120··on Meta blocks human rights accounts from reaching audiences in Saudi Arabia, UAE
Do they have a choice? It’s either that or they are shown the door, in which case they will probably be replaced by worse local alternatives in terms of freedom of speech and gov influence
noname120··on LinkedIn profile visitor lists belong to the people, says Noyb
This is the ludicrous part:

> LinkedIn rejected the request on the grounds that protecting that data took precedence.

Guess that implies that paying takes precedence on data protection

noname120··on Belgium stops decommissioning nuclear power plants
That’s only the high-level radioactive waste. There is also the intermediate-level with long life radioactive waste that is problematic. Overall you’re right, it’s much less of a concern than many people seem to think, but no point in downplaying it.

How can the fulltext be accessed?

True I didn’t read carefully enough the last part of your comment

And they are often dismissed at first as perception/subjective bias, getting used to models being good and having higher expectations due to that, etc. users are blamed a lot before they are forced to admit that there is an actual problem.

So now the solution is to input a “ping” message every hour so that it keeps the cache warm?
noname120··on An update on recent Claude Code quality reports
Why not automatically run a compaction close to the 1-hour mark? Then the cache miss won’t have such a bad impact.
noname120··on Steam on Linux Use Skyrocketed Above 5% in March
Is it thanks to ML needs or is it unrelated?
noname120··on Subscription bombing and how to mitigate it
I receive a bunch of transactional emails with an unsubscribe button at the bottom. Unsubscribing of course does nothing to stop the transactional emails but the last thing I want is them to go to spams.
noname120··on Google details new 24-hour process to sideload unverified Android apps
You can refresh them. SideStore[1] does that automatically out of the box (no computer needed) but there are Shortcuts to do that too.

noname120··on MacBook Neo
Yes, but a limitation nonetheless.
noname120··on MacBook Neo
It feels like they did everything they could so that the cheap MacBook with an iPhone CPU would not be lighter than the 1.5x more expensive MacBook with Apple Silicon
noname120··on MacBook Neo
Not same form factor + MacBooks don’t have cellular

For some reason Alfred is also a *lot* slower on Tahoe. I can often wait a whole second after pressing the shortcut before the bar appears whereas on Sequoia it was instant.
noname120··on MacBook Neo
My experience with the Apple Watch is that Touch ID is faster to unlock my Mac. The “unlocking with Apple Watch…” thing takes too much time and by the time it would have completed my finger already reached the Touch ID and unlocked it.
noname120··on MacBook Neo
Will it be true macOS or will they use this excuse of using an “iPhone chip” to lock down everything like they do on iPads/iPhones?

I think you are right, I’m not sure that they actually use it for stuff that doesn’t require Rosetta (arm64 stuff)
