noescape··on Ask HN: You've got one month, what's your challenge?
Keep studying. I hope you have more success in the future.
noescape··on Don’t Get Attached, It’s Just Luck. My Interviewing Advice and Tips
But why is this pleasantry about "luck" and not something else? You don't hear employers say "keep studying" or "we wish you a good effort" or "we hope you build cool stuff".

Isn't the employer referring to luck an admission from the employer that interviewing has a lot to do with luck?

noescape··on Don’t Get Attached, It’s Just Luck. My Interviewing Advice and Tips
Why do rejection emails say "good luck" at the end?
noescape··on The End of the General Purpose Operating System
It's happening for the operating system. Will it happen for the programming language?
noescape··on Why hardware development is hard, part 1: Verilog is weird (2013)
Could one write a state machine running the code? VMs do.
noescape··on StackOverflow Importer – Import code from Stack Overflow as Python modules
What if it can't harm your data, or data passing through your system?

What if it can't harm anything.

noescape··on StackOverflow Importer – Import code from Stack Overflow as Python modules
What if, somehow, there was a guarantee that the code can't harm your machine -- would you use it then?

This isn't a joke.

noescape··on Why hardware development is hard, part 1: Verilog is weird (2013)
One gains not needing to learn another language. I know C, I don't know Verilog or VHDL. I know how to debug C, I don't know how to debug Verilog.

If I can write a working C program, why can't I make working hardware?

noescape··on Why hardware development is hard, part 1: Verilog is weird (2013)
Is it impossible to do hardware development in C and automatically convert C to Verilog? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_to_HDL

What does one lose if they do this? Why isn't this conversion more common?

noescape··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2016)
> We're growing fast

Are you growing faster than 5% per week? If you are, that'd be fast.

noescape··on How Uber Manages a Million Writes per Second
I wonder if it were simpler for Uber to use RethinkDB instead of this complicated scheme they set up.
noescape··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2016)
In the future please remove the words "Berlin, New York, Paris, LA" from your post. They conflict with search for positions in specific cities.

Since the position is in London, please only use London in the post.

noescape··on Ask HN: Who is firing?
Can you explain what you mean by "really enforceable"? Does it mean that they often don't get enforced, but are legally binding -- or does it mean they're illegal?

If they're legally binding then that's still bad.

noescape··on Ask HN: Ever been hired through a “who's hiring” post?
And, what is this particular skill set?
noescape··on Ask HN: How does unlimited vacation policy work in your company?
Can a Reflect employee take 6 months vacation?
noescape··on Ask HN: Who is firing?
This is a really good question. It seems a non-disparagement clause waives one's right to the first amendment.
