nodemaker··on Show HN: We are building tradomate, a platform to build your custom ChatGPT
Both. We are currently doing contracts (50/50) as the platform is not ready yet. But after the platform is ready we will give people the self-service or human assisted service as options. We want to capture as much human knowledge as possible in our chatbots and give the humans a perpetual revenue from it.
nodemaker··on Pytz: The Fastest Footgun in the West (2018)
Lol I was caught by this footgun a while back. Use arrow - there I saved you a ton of time.
nodemaker··on Europe to ChatGPT: disclose your sources
Protecting jobs and moving europe back to the dark ages :)
nodemaker··on Show HN: Killport – CLI tool to kill processes running on a specified port
Typical rust programmer
nodemaker··on Ask HN: Is prompt engineering just snake oil?
Yeah honestly maybe I am feeling a bit jaded by a career in software development with jira and other bs. It doesnt feel like engineering to me :)

If youre doing anything that physically moves something like a stepper motor i have a lot of respect for that.

nodemaker··on Ask HN: Is prompt engineering just snake oil?
Changing a bunch of bits on a magnetic drive or another media is not like building an airplane that flies or a car that runs! Software engineering is closer to a priest that supposedly can communicate to god than it is to someone that builds a car!

I have a CS degree too and people without it are sometimes much better than me at slinging code

Actually forget people, you should realize how far this is from engineering when ChatGPT can do it better than me :) Ask ChatGPT to build a car though and we will see how far it gets.

nodemaker··on Show HN: Chrome extension to hide AI/GPT related submissions from HN
AI is the new bitcoin! I remember some people complaining about bitcoin in a similar fashion some time back while other people bought it.
nodemaker··on Stack Overflow Will Charge AI Giants for Training Data
“Old man shouting at the clouds”

Its not easy to stop technology with regulation. At this point companies in many countries have started building their LLMs on the whole internet.

Just upgrade yourself)

nodemaker··on Utah is first US state to limit teen social media access
Wait till you have kids who get their lives destroyed by Meta products.
nodemaker··on Utah is first US state to limit teen social media access
As a tech pioneer and also an otherwise liberal person, I welcome this move. The company called Meta is doing extreme damage to society and needs to be stopped at all costs.
nodemaker··on Utah is first US state to limit teen social media access
There is a point to be made that anything coming from Meta is just designed by its makers to destroy your mental health for ad clicks. Other companies do not have such toxic business model even Tiktok.
nodemaker··on ChatGPT Will Replace Programmers Within 10 Years
Carpentry would be my recommendation. Even feels a bit like working on a react app because you are constantly making new tools to make your work easier.
nodemaker··on A CPU is a compiler
Compilers all the way down!
nodemaker··on OpenAI to discontinue support for the Codex API
Its significantly worse than davinci-003 in maintaning a character or not doing its PC behaviour. I would migrate to Claude or Llama if chat was the only option.
nodemaker··on Federal Reserve lent $300B in emergency funds to banks in the past week
Lol so according to you the money supply can increase 10x but as long as the cost of apples (or things in the CPI basket) is same, there is no inflation. Am i right?

I think you are trying to say that CPI and Inflation are the same thing.

nodemaker··on General Relativity and Solar System Stability
I read this headline in context of Banking stability and was like "Really? Even the solar system is not stable now?"
nodemaker··on We can't all use AI. Someone has to generate the training data
I was trying to say that what most people say is mostly unoriginal and is very reminiscent of GPT style writing. What data GPT trains on or pays attention to is another question.
nodemaker··on We can't all use AI. Someone has to generate the training data
Great point. More volume in explaining the same thought is more GPT like.
nodemaker··on We can't all use AI. Someone has to generate the training data
What if all characters other than waldo were just dressing the same because they were trying to ape each other to get fictitious points on social forums. Internet has trained an entire generation to make arguments to get validation on social media that definitely reflects in the ideas that are put forward.
nodemaker··on GPT-4 is phenomenal at Code
Exactly! I think the difference between me and some FAANG leetcoder just became hugely apparent

Before calculators were invented I imagine people thought that people who could multiply two big numbers were very smart!

nodemaker··on GPT-4 is phenomenal at Code
Yeah you can start farming! But oh wait tractors can do the job better than humans there too
nodemaker··on Apple delays bonuses for some divisions as it scrutinizes costs
I worked at a startup where everyone was ex meta! They made such a shitty architecture with GraphQL and Hasura and other meta technologies they learnt that it was laughable they were using that for a small startup.
nodemaker··on Apple delays bonuses for some divisions as it scrutinizes costs
I have worked for large and small companies in my career (not faang but similar size) but honestly all the great people I admire have been in smaller companies. Large companies seem to full of people that chase promotions, TC and are not interested in learning new things.
nodemaker··on We can't all use AI. Someone has to generate the training data
I would like to make the opposite argument. All these days I didnt share my thoughts because everyone else was and my voice would be drowned in a sea of voices. In post GPT4 era its easier to stand out if your thoughts are actually original and refreshing because most people sound like their thoughts have been written by GPT.

To rephrase it another way, the reign of the conformist ends here and the reign of the contrarian begins now.

nodemaker··on Alpaca: A strong open-source instruction-following model
And in that way its actually more overall correct than the most knowledgeable person on earth. With google you also get fed some very dangerously wrong info (recent example masks) but you think its correct. With ChatGPT you have to actually use your critical thinking skills and get to the truth which in my opinion a huge advancement over google.
nodemaker··on Launch HN: Pynecone (YC W23) – Web Apps in Pure Python
Haha yeah its amazing how the lengths people will go to not learn something simple but new!
nodemaker··on How Python virtual environments work
No there is a whole python module for cloning venvs.
nodemaker··on Using LLaMA with M1 Mac and Python 3.11
I dont know why youre getting downvoted! There is nothing out there at the moment that is as authentic as text-davinci-003. I really hope its not taken away
nodemaker··on How Python virtual environments work
Jeez just clone a venv with venv cloning tools
nodemaker··on Yellen says government will help SVB depositors but rules out bailout
Life is not fair! A lot of times bad things happen due to no fault of your own. That doesnt mean government should come bail you out. In fact I am bootstrapping a business and if you dont let this event kill all my competition I would call that really unfair.

Furthermore it is unlikely this will even affect anyone that is actually vulnerable like workers at Walmart for example.
