nocommentguy··on Someone Has to Run the Fabs
At some point hanlon’s razor starts getting dull. Follow the money
nocommentguy··on D(?)A(?)O – Decentralization and Autonomy in “DAOs”
Hi Greg,

> For all you know they recycled received funds back out in their crowd sale and bought multiple times.

Actually we know that they didn’t and so do you, because the funds didn’t leave the multisig until the sale ended

nocommentguy··on D(?)A(?)O – Decentralization and Autonomy in “DAOs”
Thank you for looking out for my financial well-being, internet stranger
nocommentguy··on D(?)A(?)O – Decentralization and Autonomy in “DAOs”
Describing a public crowdsale as a premine is unethical.
nocommentguy··on Rural purge
That could be true, but it’s still a good measure of IQ. This “cultural” angle is a narrative that started from criticisms of SAT vocab tests and critics of IQ tests latched onto it and hope they can convince everyone that IQ isn’t real and everyone is equally smart in their own way
nocommentguy··on Shrinkflation: Costco Paper Towels, Now with 20 Fewer Sheets per Roll (2012)
How does the official 3.5% figure compare to your personal experience of the actual difference in price for a given item from last year?
nocommentguy··on Shrinkflation: Costco Paper Towels, Now with 20 Fewer Sheets per Roll (2012)
Nobody argues it doesn’t exist, the take is always “there is a normal amount of inflation right now and it is good for the economy anyway”
nocommentguy··on Shrinkflation: Costco Paper Towels, Now with 20 Fewer Sheets per Roll (2012)
Can’t tell if satire. Have you been to the grocery store lately?
nocommentguy··on Negative interest: Danske Bank changes threshold for personal customers
So how does this invalidate the parent comment’s point? If Dogecoin was a better hold than Bitcoin does that somehow imply that Bitcoin is a worse hold than dollars?

And before you lecture about the function of fiat currency, remember the bottom half of society is forced to keep their entire net worth in cash because they are in a continuous financial emergency...

nocommentguy··on Negative interest: Danske Bank changes threshold for personal customers
“Bitcoin has no utility”
nocommentguy··on Stock Market Returns Are Anything but Average
Ok you’ve convinced me, I’m going to consume products instead of holding capital assets /s

Take a look at ag futures my dude.

nocommentguy··on Stock Market Returns Are Anything but Average
If you’re not being hurt by the fire alarm, maybe you should stop spreading conspiracy theories about there being a fire?
nocommentguy··on Stock Market Returns Are Anything but Average
Actually, measuring the value of money as something other than the measuring stick to compare capital assets doesn’t make sense, regardless of how fashionable it is to defend money printing by verysmart internet economists.

See what I did there? It’s not an argument.

nocommentguy··on Stock Market Returns Are Anything but Average
More like the value of the dollar has roughly halved due to record money-printing and this is reflected in capital assets firsts.

MMT apologists are the modern day petit bourgeois. Trust the experts!

nocommentguy··on My Startup Failed Six Years Ago. I’ve Been Hiding from My Shame Ever Since
Is it ever acceptable to tell someone they aren’t cut out to be a founder? I feel we are responsible for making “startup founder” so sexy that people feel unfulfilled if they can’t succeed at something that is frankly mind-breaking for most people.
nocommentguy··on The IRS Wants Help Hacking Cryptocurrency Hardware Wallets
IRS wants to pay for hardware wallet bug bounties? I’m ok with this.
nocommentguy··on Ingenuity helicopter failed to lift off from Martian surface for its 4th flight
> But those engineers determined that their fix would only successfully transition the helicopter into flight mode 85% of the time. So Thursday's attempt may have fallen into the 15% of instances in which it doesn't work.

I really hope we get to see the postmortem on this. Any guesses what kind of software issue could cause a known but not fixable 15% error rate?

nocommentguy··on At Satoshi’s Tea Garden
So? Did anyone claim that it does? How is provenance for physical works tracked? It’s just using a database with a nice composable public API. People are excited because you can use it in the context of other smart contracts, do it without permission from some art “authority”, and so on.
nocommentguy··on At Satoshi’s Tea Garden
The difference would be the artist’s agreement you just mentioned
nocommentguy··on At Satoshi’s Tea Garden
> I see no value

> I still think it would be cool to own one

Cool enough to pay more than $0? Perhaps there could be an NFT so cool-to-own for you that you would VALUE it at $1?

nocommentguy··on AI Dungeon will block certain words, review content flagged as inappropriate
philosopherai.com had a few funny instances of self-censorship, like “who owns the central bank”. A ridiculous side effect of some well-meaning censorship.
nocommentguy··on Alphabet reports Q1 earnings
Not weird considering that capital gains are taxed lower than ordinary income.
nocommentguy··on Alphabet reports Q1 earnings
Share buybacks are equivalent to dividends. They are done when the company can’t think of how to hit their target ROI on that margin. Much better to pay back investors than invent “something useful” to spend money on a la government budget game theory.
nocommentguy··on Google Pressured on Racial Equity Audit After AI Ethics Collapse
> “They have failed to take accountability and we need them to take this step.”

The use of “need” instead of “want” gives me the creeps. Stay out of the spotlight, kids.

nocommentguy··on 99 bits of unsolicited advice
> You can reduce the annoyance of someone’s stupid belief by increasing your understanding of why they believe it.

My favorite. “Write 2 essays, one defending each side” is the most valuable kind of assignment, in my opinion.

nocommentguy··on Supreme Court to Decide First-Ever Gun-Carry Case
And lots of people would embrace the term “thug”. It’s great if you can embrace it and make it something positive. My point about “look twice when you hear it” still stands, most people that use redneck in political contexts don’t mean well.
nocommentguy··on Supreme Court to Decide First-Ever Gun-Carry Case
Your use of the term “sanity” is loaded. It is a complex political topic for a reason. Government should be afraid of its people. Think of the “children” ;)
nocommentguy··on Supreme Court to Decide First-Ever Gun-Carry Case
It was never just rednecks with shotguns. “Redneck” is a political slander as bad as “thug”. Whenever someone says it your alarm bells should go off that someone is trying to emotionally manipulate your political beliefs. “You’re not a science-denying, gun-toting, bible-thumping redneck are you?”
nocommentguy··on CEOs are hugely expensive – why not automate them?
To outsource something you have to be able to unambiguously specify requirements (otherwise costs blow up as you go back and forth). Once you’ve made it truly unambiguous, the next logical step is automation.
nocommentguy··on Paid in Full: an internet where every interaction is a financial transaction
Bitcoin was designed for big blocks. Nodes are miners. Downvotes don’t change this, and you can’t suppress these ideas forever.
