You don't need to be rooted if you're using a custom rom like LineageOS, where you could potentially install the extension with temporary root like is done for UnifiedNLP here: blog.eowyn.net/unifiednlp/

This reminds me very much of edalize[1], which does something very similar.

nobodywasishere··on CalyxOS – De-Googled Android Alternative
Currently been using LineageOS for three years now, latter half without GApps/Play services.

Google maps (from Aurora store) works perfectly fine on my phone without it.

Telegram notifications work perfectly fine.

My banking app works fine.

Apple Music and Jellyfin work great.

I use nextcloud for contacts/calendar/cloud/photo management.

It would be awesome if you could create a version for F-Droid. If not, that's understandable. This looks really cool!

Rossmann is not advocating for companies to change how they design stuff. Primarily, he just wants companies to release schematics (that they already have and aren't really proprietary) and to stop making deals with manufacturers to only sell custom parts to that company (which is what apple is doing with one of their charge chips).

There's an Ada compiler as part of gcc.

The most prominent project that i know of written in ada is ghdl.

nobodywasishere··on iPad Camera Multitasking
It'd be only the driver's fault, not anyone else's. How is this any different from playing a video from the phone and either holding it, or putting it on the dash?

I would, as I don't have the time or patience to remember all of tmux's commands. For a command line text editor I also use micro, which has sane keyboard shortcuts out of the box.

nobodywasishere··on Is Netflix's Seaspiracy film right about fishing damaging oceans?
I think they meant "those people who are Westerners who are also privileged" and not "all Westerners, who are all privileged".
nobodywasishere··on LG has decided to pull out of the smartphone business
Hope they provide the keys to unlock bootloaders to all their devices on the way out. Otherwise we'll probably end up with a bunch more ewaste. Have a few LG devices I wish I could put a custom rom on but alas, locked bootloaders.
nobodywasishere··on LineageOS 18.1
This is all volunteer based, so if a device isn't supported, it's because no one stepped up to maintain it

nobodywasishere··on Feeding cattle seaweed reduces their greenhouse gas emissions 82%
Alternatively, we could just stop breeding and eating cows. We'd also then free up a lot of land for other purposes, including rewilding, and have a lot more food to feed people.

nobodywasishere··on Xilinx Opens Up Vitis HLS Tool for FPGAs
There's a complete open source toolchain available for ice40 and ecp5 FPGAs from Lattice, for both Verilog and VHDL. I've been using it for almost a year now and it's really good. See github.com/YosysHQ

Check out GoatCounter (http://goatcounter.com/). It's what I use for my personal blog, and it also has a free tier for non-commercial users (though I'd still recommend donating so they can stick around). They even have a no JS way to integrate tracking, as all I really care about is how many ppl are reading my blog.

Not without Apple's permission on iOS, you can't for longer than a week.
nobodywasishere··on Barcode scanner app on Google Play infects 10M users with one update

nobodywasishere··on Installing Debian on Modern Hardware
> On more than one occasion, I ended up using a rocky tethered connection to my iPhone, retrying several times due to dropouts, to get Broadcom wifi drivers installed

Funny enough going off of this, I really like how with Android, it's really easy to share a Wi-Fi connection over USB to a computer, instead of having to use data. On more than one occasion myself, I've simply left an old android phone (that has no SIM card or data plan) attached to a computer to give it internet for months instead of buying a wifi card.
