no-go-mojo··on The Greatest Hacks of My Life
No man, partying 6 nights in a row, hanging out being care free, living for the moment etc. So if someone asks you, how were your 20s, you smile and say wooh, they were good, and off record. :-)

Basically I'm saying party it up, learn a bit about everything and everyone, back pack across a continent or two, and don't be in such a rush to jump in the rat race. When you're in your late 20s, dropping everything and rolling out will most likely be near impossible. You will be more rooted like an older tree. Right now just see and feel the world you have come into and just play with it.

My 2 cents.

P.S. to me a Michael Jackson or Mark Zuckerberg are not a great life, because they were/are unidimensional. They are what they are and not much outside of it. In technology, a rounded and balanced figure I can think of Steve Jobs. He got the fuck out, then got back in. In is always there, you can always get back in, but you can't always get out.

Good luck!

How do you feel behind at 22? Your 20s should mostly be blown away on things you'd not do later in life. I think.
no-go-mojo··on Ask PG/HN: Is it bad form to mail YC with new info about application?
Wouldn't you be annoyed if you were in their shoes and people did that? If you want to mail them about a new competitor, then what would you do if you raised $$?
no-go-mojo··on Ask HN: how to start a hardware-based start up?
Yea, I think a lot can be done and said in lower end devices. I foresee "smart clothing" soon.
no-go-mojo··on Ask HN: How do you stay motivated at your startup?
I work that way too, which leaves a lot of unfinished projects, because I do the hard/interesting stuff, and think "oh this is done, I just gotta do x, y and z which I'll wrap up later." Now I've started to set a check point before I start which must be crossed in order of my project to be finished.
no-go-mojo··on Ask HN: How do you stay motivated at your startup?
I fall in love with problems, my own, others', or whomever's, and try to find a way to solve it. I know most builders of software fall in love with a solution first/and idea or a grand vision - but little ol' me don't think like that, but thanks, you make a good point for someone who is a builder.
no-go-mojo··on Ask PG: Whom do you admire, look up to, think of as an idol, a mentor?
You didn't just ask me a question, you expressed distaste to me asking questions, not cool. I'm just trying to learn and improve.
no-go-mojo··on Ask HN: How do you stay motivated at your startup?
Wish I could say something like inspiration, grand visions, or something someone a lot cooler would say, but it's my shitty day job. The shitter the day goes at work, the more I am motivated. The more I realize I am smarter than my boss' boss, that most of these people are sheep and I have nothing to show for it, the more I'm driven.

It has gotten so bad that I often look forward to meetings that will make me feel insignificant among a lot more significant yet stupid people who are brown nosing each other to death (corp America). I have on occasion thanked the almighty for putting me in such a shit hole and thus giving me the desire to improve my situation. Satisfaction must be the death of all motivation, because the dissatisfied me is the driven me.

no-go-mojo··on Ask PG: Whom do you admire, look up to, think of as an idol, a mentor?
Reading and commenting on what's posted, asking the community questions, and asking PG questions is exactly why I signed up here.

What's a little annoying is: who the heck are you? ;)

no-go-mojo··on Interested in a mentor program for programmers?
That'd be great! any of us would be able to use such a service.
no-go-mojo··on Ask HN: Which high-profile startups will be deadpooled next year?
What's dead-pooling? An exit, sale, liquidation, major pivot?

I am not asking about the concept, but the exact definition. There can be many combinations of actions you could take to get out of business and or start something else.

Which unique combinations does this term apply to?

no-go-mojo··on Ask PG: What if you like one (or more) of us for YC W11, but not all.
Makes a lot of sense, PG. I have often wondered if it would be better to have cofounders who aren't as strong but as a team we have all bases, in terms of skills, covered vs. all of us, with roughly the same skills, but all awesome.

I also started to notice that there isn't any correlation between skill and determination. Looking for skill and hoping for will is a disaster. People who were "really into it" would pick anything up on the fly, enough to be dangerous, and that'd be great. On the flip side, people who were "rockstars" but not driven, would not do what they say they would, you'd be waiting on their email responses, man did they kill the morale. Reminds me of a Sir Richard Bronson quote: Hire for attitude, train for skill.

I would bet the combination of determination and "solving the right problem" makes a winner. Also instead of luck, I believe in being at the right place, at the right time. In order to be ready for that you have to be there, everyday, even if the bus does not come for 100 days straight, you stand there with the exact fare, knowing that when it does come, you'll be ready to ride that rocket.

Sorry about the rant, I know you're a busy guy, and thanks for answering my question. Any input from you is always greatly appreciated.

no-go-mojo··on Ask PG: Bad apples that got into YC?
It's as useful as "what we look for in founders" essay. It is just the flip side of that coin.
no-go-mojo··on Ask HN: What do people do with the code from failed startups?
Yeah, the Justin.TV guys did for $250k on Ebay.
no-go-mojo··on Ask HN: How can I motivate my talented dev to give a shit?
He isn't enjoying certain aspect of the job.

Smart boy.
no-go-mojo··on Ask HN: Help!! Need to learn to build stuff - within 2 weeks!
"Before you start studying jQuery, you should have a basic knowledge of:

HTML CSS JavaScript"

????

no-go-mojo··on Ask HN: Help!! Need to learn to build stuff - within 2 weeks!
I started doing this yesterday (RoR), it took me the whole day just setting up on a Windows box - like all of 12 hours yesterday!

Thanks for the detailed explanation, super helpful. I will dive right in.

Why: I sold the idea, too well maybe, and now must deliver.

"Building in HTML / CSS / JavaScript (using jQuery) will be the quickest way to a front-end, building it with PhoneGap will be the quickest way to Mobile, and doing the backend in a rapid framework with lots of learning resources like Rails or ColdFusion." <-- I am getting in here! Wish me luck! :-)
