Why not?
submissionscomments
nnoitra··on Why I am learning category theory
Why is Elm mentioned specifically. As far as I know (state, action) => state is just a function without side effects?
nnoitra··on Why I am learning category theory
Isn't Redux only used when the app becomes too complex with really complex state?
nnoitra··on Why I am learning category theory
Will it make you a better React dev tho?
nnoitra··on The Rune Programming Language
Can someone explain the timing security vulnerability mentioned in the article, I'm not sure I understand.
nnoitra··on Show HN: Have fun betting virtual (not real) money on predictions from HN users
This may seem like a dumb question but why not use a laptop?
nnoitra··on An Interview with Mickey Petersen, Author of Mastering Emacs
Why, what's so good about it?
nnoitra··on Why are most CS programs so bad at teaching programming as a skill in itself?
The premise is not true. Many universities in Europe teach proper classes with programming assignments.
nnoitra··on The German School of Lisp (2011)
No, you can't. How many dialects of C++ are there or of Java.
nnoitra··on Why are glasses so expensive? The industry prefers to keep that blurry (2019)
This comment slowly escalated to the point where I thought the next line would be: "They also own your eyes".
nnoitra··on Graduate students question career options
Nope. You can go ahead and make a startup which can fail and then you're left with burnout and an empty bank account. Wasting time is an integral part of life.
nnoitra··on Math Stack Exchange is a waste of time? (2017) [pdf]
My experience has been diametrically opposite to this. I've found Stack Exchange communities to be amazing communities to ask deep questions, practice technical writing and even exercise critical thinking skills.

On the Math Exchange I've had nothing but positive experience. The thing to do is first to struggle a bit with the problem and formulate a good question. Asking good question is an incredibly valuable skill. The questions which get treated bad are usually either poorly written and/or the person asking it clearly didn't even spend the bare minimum trying to solve it.

Here are some tips to get your questions answered and upvoted:

1) Spend some time on the problem

2) Describe what you've tried and why according to you that doesn't work or you don't understand it

3) Write in clear language and don't make obvious grammar mistakes

nnoitra··on Google Alphabet reviewing every project after $6B decline in profits
Yay, more code repos that will rot somewhere by engineers who thought they were "changing the world and making an impact".
nnoitra··on My next Mac might be the last
The UI is bad, 7 years of OS updates and the older versions of the Mac still feel better. It's just glitz on top of very bad ideas.
nnoitra··on My next Mac might be the last
This M1 Mac Air will definitely be my last. I am switching to Windows laptop soon. The thing is that Macs were head and shoulders above the competition and I just don't see it anymore. It's becoming an isolated ecosystem and the competition is just more than keeping up even with the M1.

I started using Macs in 2015 roughly and at that time they were destroying the competition. The retina display sucks. It doesn't feel natural to me.

nnoitra··on Ask HN: If you could teach a course, what would it be?
Heard a programmer recently how open source programmers were being exploited by corpos that used their enthusiasm for the craft.
nnoitra··on Ask HN: If you could teach a course, what would it be?
Is this that common? xD
nnoitra··on Ask HN: If you could teach a course, what would it be?
How to wake up tired 90% of the time for Dummies.
nnoitra··on Just for Fun. No, really.
What would my interviewer think if I answered that question with pussy and money tho?
nnoitra··on Show HN: I made an Aesthetic Typing app
This is really awesome.
nnoitra··on Ask HN: Best programming books in the last couple of years?
useless everywhere basically. No sane person would sit down and read TAOCP.
nnoitra··on The Nobel Peace Prize 2022
what brings more peace than droke strikes though?
nnoitra··on The case for ending calculus requirements for science majors
Yeah tbh undergraduate calculus courses are really not that difficult.
nnoitra··on The case for ending calculus requirements for science majors
I can help her out. ; )
nnoitra··on CS 168: The Modern Algorithmic Toolbox
Is this now a trivial problem because of Deep Learning?
nnoitra··on Ask HN: How to deal with a co-founder who has wasteful spending habits
Come on, live a little. A small vacation of 6 months to Bora Bora never ruined a company! Enjoy. Life is short. Carpe diem.
nnoitra··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2022)
US only?
nnoitra··on Kamby – A programming language based on Lisp that doesn't seem like Lisp
Lol, that's a function that returns a pointer to a struct.
nnoitra··on Show HN: Alumina Programming Language
New language posts have to stop. There are tons of other CS topics to talk about but instead LIPSs ()()()()((((())))) and random langs taka the spotlight on HN.
nnoitra··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2022)
Are you hiring juniors?
nnoitra··on The case for language agnostic hiring
Any decent CS degree properly exposes students to functional, low-level programming and functional programming.

Even if they didn't, a strong programmer will pick up them up in an afternoon. Ditect memory manipulation is just not that hard.
