R. Buckminster Fuller,
taken for a leg-puller,
spake the truth we ignore:
1 + 1 = 4.
cf. p.61, https://fullerfuture.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/buckminster...FastAPI's docs (recently front page on HN) are a great example of focused, concise documentation that knows exactly its purpose.
I love how in the beginning of Synergetics he spends pages building an argument to justify the statement "1 + 1 = 4." He was insistent that we reformulate our most basic notions about value and equivalence.
Apple does not own the computer.
If Apple wants to own the computer, they can pay me instead.
The 2009-2015 era of Macbooks are, not were, truly phenomenal machines.
It's an invasive restriction, cynically designed, poorly engineered and improperly managed, that impairs your ability to function.. masquerading as security.
macOS is my favorite OS, but I don't need to use it. I was so psyched reading about the new Macbooks, and I've had to walk all that excitement back now. I cannot invest in a computer that locks me out of my job if a cable gets cut by a maintenance crew in Cupertino.
Now if I could just stop the games from magically re-appearing in my Start Menu after a Windows Update...
"Never again waste time hunting for applications in poorly organized menus."
The Windows Start menu is terrible, and it's the most iconic part of MS Windows, or it has been to me since the "Start me up" campaign for W95 (one of the best tech ad campaigns not made by Apple in my opinion). And now it is a place where I struggle to activate (?!) the scrollbar. It's an alphabetized list, but I can't tap a keyboard letter to jump down the list, which kills me a little every time I do it and nothing happens. I use the Start menu primarily for locating items to drag to my Taskbar, so I never have to unwillingly scroll past Candy Crush Slot Machine Simular Redux or You Didn't Install This! Saga.
