nkristoffersen··on Show HN: Find your competitor's Websites
Seems like bad practice. Do a lot of people do that? Why would I share the same GA code between all of my sites? It would taint my analytics data and make the analytics worthless, no?
nkristoffersen··on Walmart Beats Amazon in $15B Flipkart Battle
Keep in mind, Alexa.com is an Amazon company so not exactly unbiased.
nkristoffersen··on Why we should all be using Windows 95
To be fair, Apple does do a big "launch" every year of their new MacOS and iOS version. Not Windows 95 big but definitely an event with many people in attendance.
nkristoffersen··on NASA advisers say SpaceX rocket technology could put lives at risk
We’ve sent many robots to space and to mars. But they are very limited in their scope and ability. Where a human can have near limitless scope and ability.

Watch some of the mars rover videos and it becomes clear how frustrating it must be for the scientists on earth to do research on mars remotely.

nkristoffersen··on Tesla reviewing contractors, firing everyone not vouched for by an employee
While it definitely depends once your definition of startup... I bet most people in the automotive industry consider it a “startup”. Especially considering the age of the competition, Tesla is a brand new startup company with hyper growth in its plans.
nkristoffersen··on 96-Year-Old Secretary Quietly Amasses Fortune, Then Donates $8.2M
How much has the trump administration reduced the budget for these agencies?

nkristoffersen··on Ask HN: What skills would get me the best remote job?
Look at remoteok and search the HN hiring post for remote roles. Review the skill sets listed, and work towards gaining those skills.

If you have those skills then work towards selling yourself better.

Believe in yourself!

nkristoffersen··on Macbook Pro frying USB peripherals
I am very hesitant to remap anything since it ruins me for other computers. So I just travel with a small mechanical keyboard instead. Has the added benefit of always having a USA keyboard with me when I am in europe.
nkristoffersen··on IRS’ 60-Year-Old IT System Failed on Tax Day Due to New Hardware
But how many details do you include? How much ram? Length of the power cords?

It is the job of the writer to write for the audience, not include every single detail, no?

nkristoffersen··on Show HN: Web Audio DSP Playground
Need to convince the remaining browsers to implement more audio APIs.
nkristoffersen··on How the Nintendo Switch prevents firmware downgrades
Perhaps you don't work in software, but you definitely want constant updates for an internet connected device. Apple has a track record for providing software updates for a long time past initial device release. Do you think more manufactures should be following their lead? The "cyber" world would be a much more secure place with constant updates.

nkristoffersen··on Facebook to ask everyone to accept being tracked so they can keep using it
The words are probably defined within the document, not in the legal dictionary.
nkristoffersen··on Pinebook: An Affordable 64-bit ARM based Open Source Notebook
Chromebook would better for that use case I think. Since it’s entirely managed and simply runs a browser.
nkristoffersen··on I built a progressive web app and published it in three app stores
And don't forget expo.io build process. I never have to open xcode anymore.
nkristoffersen··on A Taxonomy of Technical Debt
Definitely. I build a lot of MVPs. So I focus on "make it work, then make it work well".

Shipped code is so much more valuable than unshipped code :-)

nkristoffersen··on Have we reached peak English in the world?
Ah, it is the Danish "potato" in their throat :-)
nkristoffersen··on Working on an iPad Pro as my main computer
For the folks worried about the limited iPad keyboards:

You can use most any bluetooth or USB keyboard with the iPad. I use a Code keyboard with cherry switches connected to my iPad via USB if I am doing anything serious. Just need the little Camera -> Lighting adapter.

nkristoffersen··on Working on an iPad Pro as my main computer
It totally works. The PI just needs a regular USB battery which I travel with for my phone. An added bonus is all the fun wifi Linux tools that aren't available on my Mac or iPad.
nkristoffersen··on Airtable gets $52M in funding
They do have a 3rd tier. “Contact us” is probably the tier you want.
nkristoffersen··on Ask HN: What stack you use to build websites?
Static sites: GatsbyJS on S3 or Firebase hosting.

Web apps: ReactJS on s3 hitting NodeJS API on AWS EB.

nkristoffersen··on Apple Music now has 38M paid members
The audio quality is subpar on amazon music. I could hear it lightly distorting which is weird. Hopefully just a player bug and not an audio file issue.
nkristoffersen··on ‘Blockchain’ is meaningless
I almost spit out my coffee.
nkristoffersen··on Snap is laying off about 100 engineers
I think about R&D. Rolling out experiments takes teams with different focuses.
nkristoffersen··on Show HN: A.I. Resume builder for normal people
This is great feedback. Thank you so much for taking the time to write it.

1. RE: position specific help. This is definitely a goal. I want to use the job posting you are applying for and leverage that to guide you throughout the process. And really I want to make the "A.I." much more intelligent over time.

2. RE: Visual cue on landing page. Easy fix. Will push that out later today.

3. RE: why sign up if free. An earlier prototype actually didn't have any sort of signup but proved too limited or difficult when in came to sharing, revising your resumes, or owning multiple resumes. It is all for the users benefit. You should be creating multiple resumes. You should be improving your resumes over time. Resumes are living breathing documents that evolve as you do. A nice bonus of having accounts now is resumes can be shared via URL to be viewed.

3.b RE: free. I feel it is unethical to charge people money to help them get out of unemployment or underemployment. This is a project for me to give back to society since so much of my paid work is automating jobs away. Helping people break the cycle of underemployment is important to me. It is, in some ways, more devastating than unemployment.

4. RE: storage and usage. The data is stored in a PostgreSQL database on AWS. I will try to make this more clear. I use the data to make the service better (better AI, better design, better guides, etc). Seeing how people write their resume using the tool helps me write better guiding AI so the user gets a better resume at the end.

Again, thank you so much for writing your feedback. The more feedback I can get the better I can help people get the resume they need to break the cycle.

Building this as a way to help unemployed and underemployed folks find better jobs. I welcome any feedback or ideas to make the goal more achievable.
nkristoffersen··on Google Chrome: Flash Usage Declines from 80% in 2014 to Under 8% Today
Correct me if I'm wrong, but not allowing flash was before the app store was even an idea.
nkristoffersen··on Ask HN: What stack would you use to build a CRUD web app in 2018?
Building a lot of SaaS products for startups these days.

Frontend: ReactJS

Backend: NodeJS

Database: Postgres

Hosting: AWS

CI/CD: Gitlab

Simple for me. Easy to deploy changes quickly. Fast iteration.

nkristoffersen··on Ask HN: Where do you deploy to in 2018 and how?
Gitlab for CI/CD then deploy to AWS, Google Cloud, or Firebase hosting.
