nitrix··on Ask HN: Is Digital Ocean safe enough for production?
It's worth noting that when a similar issue happened to me and went on their "unofficial" IRC channel to raise awareness and ask questions; I was faced with arrogant staff members that didn't want to restart the servers or mitigate the DDoS attack. I was banned on the spot. Then the Customer Service tickets were ignored in a similar manner too. I had a growing startup at the time. Needless to say I've been doing everything I can to destroy their reputation ever since.
nitrix··on Intel Haskell Research Compiler
Wait... what? "To actually compile a Haskell program, we'll also need a patched version of GHC. See Building and Using GHC with HRC for more information."
nitrix··on Why recursive data structures?
I stopped reading at the first sentence when he improperly used `isomorphic`. I thought it made no sense at all so I looked up the footnote... just to get a big middle finger from the author.

What a con artist. Moving on.

nitrix··on Show HN: Wave function collapse algorithm
I opened this ticket: https://github.com/mxgmn/WaveFunctionCollapse/issues/2
nitrix··on A Conversation About OOP vs. FP Turns Constructive
A few incorrect points during the discussion as well as poorly approached. The only thing beneficial that I see from it is people trying to better their skills and Haskell gaining traction.

I personally would recommend #haskell-beginners on freenode IRC as well as http://haskellbook.com for the ones interested.

For everybody else, well I'm not a sale person and my job isn't to convince you. If it takes you 30 years to (re)discover Haskell, so be it.

nitrix··on How we broke PHP, hacked Pornhub and earned $20k
I feel you and I know each others ;)
nitrix··on Monads Explained Quickly
Half of a functor and half a (co)monad; it's very misleading and will just increase the general confusion around monads for beginners.

Even when you think you figured it out, it's just one part of the puzzle too. I'd stay away from anything self-described as "quickly" or "the hard way".

nitrix··on Wikipedia starts work on $2.5M internet search engine project to rival Google [pdf]
The title is misleading. It's 250k, not 2.5m and the goal is a knowledge engine, not a search engine.
nitrix··on Get HTTPS for free
What is the intermediate certificate hardcoded in the source?
nitrix··on HTML5 Anonymous Bitcoin Poker
Highly hashed IPs. Highly. Hashed. That made my day.
nitrix··on [dead]
Not only it's in javascript, but it also uses monads, like Maybe. Very fancy indeed!
nitrix··on The day I was DoSed by Google
Googlebot respect cache control. Have you tried more aggressive caching? There are solutions out there (free), like CloudFlare. You can even throttle your site, block some bots, etc, so at least your backend doesn't get shut down.
nitrix··on Ask HN: Best Programming Language For a Text-Graphics Game
Termbox works nicely on both linux and windows, plus the api has only 7 functions and very minimal, yet powerful.
