nirav72··on Making Tailscale Faster
You’re using a battery powered device as an exit node?
nirav72··on JetKVM Mini
I have the single port PoE version of the glinet. Its been rock solid so far. I’ve been wanting this 4 port version. But they’re sold out every time I check their site.
nirav72··on JetKVM Mini
I have the glinet kvm. Tailscale seems to work fine. What issues have you found on the others?
nirav72··on Show HN: Stuxnet – A reconstructed source code of the infamous cyber-weapon
From what I recall reading, stuxnet itself was found in the wild. Even though it was certainly created for a specific target. That’s how security researchers were able to study it fairly quickly. So the binaries were already out there to pull from other infected systems.
nirav72··on Memory prices climb 500% in 12 months
I've inadvertently stocked piled a bunch of DDR4 memory over the years. Usually bought them on an impulse when I saw a good deal, hoping to use it later when someone in the family/friend wanted a new gaming PC or for my own homelab projects. I'm happy with just using DDR4 at this point. The motherboards/CPUs are still relatively cheap either new or on secondary markets. With a decent GPU, the performance difference between DDR4 vs DDR5 is marginal. Most people won't even notice it. My point is, if cost is a factor for a new build, then stick with older hardware. Especially if your use case is gaming or home server.

Anthropic starting to sound like Microsoft from the 1990s.
nirav72··on India's first privately-developed rocket reaches orbit on debut launch
Ballistic intercepts are still very difficult and not always certain to work. Interception is only possible within a specific trajectory window with limited number of shots.

The missile defense we commonly hear about these days is used against lower speed , shorter range and altitude missiles:

nirav72··on India's first privately-developed rocket reaches orbit on debut launch
India has had the ability to reach LEO and beyond for a while now. So bringing down a nuke anywhere on the planet wouldn't be that difficult for them. That goes for any country that has LEO launch capabilities. Of course miniaturization of the nuclear payload is another matter.
nirav72··on ANSI escape injection in MCP servers: Hidden from humans, visible to AI
ANSI bombs from the MS-DOS days are back for the modern age.

nirav72··on The great digital fatigue: How digital burnout is changing social media use
It takes some effort, but you can get the recommendation algo to clean up your feed. My youtube account of 15 years was flooded with political content. Mainly just opinion stuff and lot of AI slop. So I just unsubbed all channels and started clicking the don't recommend this channel or I don't like this content. It took couple of months, but my recommended videos are back to what I liked watching. Mainly dev and hobby stuff. For channels that I do like that are non-political, I just keep bookmarked links that go directly to their channel page.
nirav72··on Sam Neill has died
Kinda reminds of the inter-dimensional angry aliens from The Expanse that made ships disappear when transiting through the ring gates.
nirav72··on Japan's Hayabusa2 probe to conduct flyby of Torifune asteroid
Thanks. Based on your suggestion - I found this on the plugins page. in case someone else is interested:

nirav72··on How to Build a Minimal ZFS NAS Without Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS (2024)
Looking at current hd prices, I keep kicking myself for giving away several 3tb and couple of 4tb drives I had in my unraid server few years ago when I started upgrading my array to 8 and 12tb drives. At the time, a drive slot in my server was more valuable to me than a mere 3tb drive. i could have kept them for emergencies if any one of my array drives fail.
nirav72··on Japan's Hayabusa2 probe to conduct flyby of Torifune asteroid
I wonder if someone has hooked this up to Kerbal Space Program.
nirav72··on Amazon will stop accepting new customers for Mechanical Turk
That was a fun DLC. The zip lines were my favorite on the night maps.
nirav72··on Steam Controller Auto-Charge – pilot to magnetic charging puck using CV
That is odd. I did as well around the same time and mine shows September of this year.
nirav72··on Choosing a Public DNS Resolver
If its public , how do you prevent others from accessing it?
nirav72··on Ubiquiti: Enterprise NAS, Built on ZFS
How many cameras do you have on your frigate instance? i’ve been running frigate for couple years and seemed to have hit a limit of 6 cameras. 3 of them are wireless and 3 are connected to Ethernet. Mainly adding any more seems to adversely impact detection. I suspect it was maybe because the coral TPU board was hitting its limits. So I recently switched to intel arc a380 for inference. I’m going to add more cameras soon to see it helps.
nirav72··on Global population movements from 1990 to 2023
Isn't migration to MENA - specifically migration to North Africa mainly from Sub-Saharan part of Africa?
nirav72··on We Think the SpaceX IPO Is Overvalued
>I have to wonder if Elon has spent too much social capital for this kind of cult of meme stock strategy to work again.

If social capital was an indicator , then Tesla stock would've cratered 2 years ago. Despite demand for tesla vehicles dropping. I don't think social capital matters these days.

nirav72··on Restore full BambuNetwork support for Bambu Lab printers
Bambuddy and tailscale was my solution to losing access to mobile app once I went lan-only. Has video stream ,monitoring and control. Plus home assistant integration via MQTT. Only thing I’m missing is the ‘AI’ spaghetti monitoring. But those are rare for me.
nirav72··on Louis Rossmann offers to pay legal fees for a threatened OrcaSlicer developer
I'm running my P2S in LAN mode. But I also blocked it on my router from connecting outward. Sure I can no longer use the mobile app. But BamBuddy solved that for me. It has a web UI that is mobile browser friendly.
nirav72··on Richard Dawkins concludes AI is conscious, even if it doesn't know it
Not just stateless, but also lack agency. An LLM or agent isn’t just going to wake up and suddenly decide it wants to perform a certain action or task without prior instructions.
nirav72··on 245TB Micron 6600 ION Data Center SSD Now Shipping
Last fall I bought a 4tb Samsung 990 pro drive for $260. Now it retails between $800-900.
nirav72··on UAE to leave OPEC
Even if PLAN ships aren’t as capable or matching the U.S, it doesn’t really matter. They just have to be there. The U.S is not going to risk an escalation with China.
nirav72··on Intel Arc Pro B70 Review
The B50 certainly does. So Likely same for B70.

nirav72··on Website streamed live directly from a model
This is incredible. I uploaded a diagram of a hydroponics system I found somewhere. It generated additional high-quality diagrams of specific parts of the system. Including the plumbing , nutrient delivery and electrical wiring. It's not entirely accurate. But I still like the concept. Great work.
nirav72··on PM Carney declares U.S. ties now a 'weakness' in address to Canadians
>Nuclear weaponry is offensive in nature

It's also a deterrence.

nirav72··on Using a USB switch as a full KVM
I just use a usb switch to switch keyboard and mouse. For display input switching , I bought couple of dell ips monitors that allow switching via keyboard hot keys.
nirav72··on YouTube now lets you turn off Shorts
I don’t mind shorts. Especially when I have a few minutes to kill or just want something playing on a side Monitor. Just wish it would auto scroll to the next one without requiring an extension.
