nicoty··on Fairbuds: In-ear with replaceable batteries
Would've been nicer if they made the batteries hot-swappable like on these: https://pqearbuds.com/products/longest-lasting-interchangeab...
nicoty··on ExFAT Driver Boasts Much Faster "Dirsync" Performance with Linux 6.9
I haven't kept up to date with ExFAT in a while. Is it still impossible to resize ExFAT partitions?
nicoty··on People Don't Understand OOP
I’m not convinced you need objects to enforce invariants on your data. Why wouldn't you just use a good type system and type-checker to enforce those invariants? They could check if you're using data in places where they're meant to be, without having to bundle data with procedures.
nicoty··on Infinite Craft
Nice. At some point I got " Crypto-gangbangasm + Cthulhu Lilith Porn".

nicoty··on So let’s talk about this Wayland thing
> Standard protocols now exist for just about everything anyone needs.

I have been OOTL with the Wayland ecosystem for a few years. Does it provide a way for users to create and use input macros (similar to Autohotkey and xdotool) yet? That (in addition to remote desktop and screen casting) was one of the main blockers for me in daily-driving it.

nicoty··on Rhino Linux is a rolling release Ubuntu-based distribution
Personally prefer Void's runit and xbps to Arch's systemd and pacman. Although I mostly use packages from Nix too. Reckon my dream distro would be something barebones that uses s6 and Nix.
nicoty··on Show HN: DSLCad – a programming language and interpreter for building 3D models
Oh interesting. I've recently tried learning JSCAD as I'm trying to model my freeline skates [(current progress here)](https://gist.github.com/nothingnesses/dc1171c2e20f7a6d9a1cb9...). I like it as I'm already familiar with JS (one reason I opted for it instead of OpenSCAD) and I don't have to compile/install anything but my browser. However, I'm running into a limitation with it as it doesn't have a native function that allows me to bend models, so I'm currently trying to write one.

Is it possible to bend models easily in DSLCAD? What would you say are some reasons why someone might use DSLCAD instead of JSCAD?

nicoty··on Dozens of malicious PyPI packages discovered targeting developers
I watched a video[0] about the Roc language recently, and they do something interesting to address this: they have a layer in their language called "platforms" and the idea behind these are that there are many different platforms that you can choose between to run code with and each one has different permissions. So one platform might be sandboxed and disallow the use of certain unsafe APIs whereas another might be less sandboxed.

nicoty··on AntiX-22 Released
Void Linux is both minimal and quick. The base live image is <700MB. I've been using the same installation I've had for >5 years with no hiccups so it seem pretty stable for my use case too, although I only really use it for basic stuff like programming, browsing, reading books so ymmv.
nicoty··on A phone app called Lumenate claims to alter the brain’s rhythms (2021)
The app doesn't work on my Android device (it's stuck on the "Welcome to Lumenate" screen after signing in). I'm not sure exactly how this app is supposed to function, but assuming it's just similar to something like a stroboscope, it's a bit ridiculous that I have to sign up for an account to use it, when free and open-source alternatives like https://f-droid.org/packages/co.garmax.materialflashlight/ already exist.
nicoty··on How I See Numbers
Do you have perfect pitch? What frequencies do the numbers have? How high is the frequency of a really large number like 1000? What about fractions and irrational numbers?
nicoty··on How a middle aged CS major debunked a classic positive psychology finding (2013)

nicoty··on Keyboard lets people type so fast it’s banned from typing competitions
Is it possible to edit the dictionary used for the auto completion? Is it possible to edit the characters it inputs from the defaults, even to characters not in the English alphabet? Which operating systems is it compatible with?
nicoty··on This resume got me an interview
It might be easier just include a list of the buzzwords formatted to use white font so that it's invisible to humans but visible to buzzword-detection bots?
nicoty··on Feeding cows seaweed cuts 99% of greenhouse gas emissions from their burps
This wouldn't even be perfection. Perfection would be if there were no sentient beings to experience suffering at all.
nicoty··on Yatima: A programming language for the decentralized web
I think Yatima's type system is intended to be more powerful than Rust's. In particular, its dependent types would allow the compiler to enforce properties of data at compile time. E.g., it can be used to ensure that function only accepts/returns a list of values of a particular length (aka a vector) at compile time, which afaik isn't possible with Rust's type system.
nicoty··on Chinese ‘Artificial Sun’ experimental fusion reactor sets world record
Afaiu, fusion doesn't produce radioactive waste products that fission does, since the fuel used for fusion are isotopes of hydrogen, and the waste products are helium and neutrons.

nicoty··on Meals based on vegetable protein sources (beans and peas) are more satiating (2016)
It isn't exactly East Asian, but have you tried Indian food? A lot of it is plant-based since many Indians are vegetarian, and being an Asian cuisine, many of the ingredients used are also similar/the same to those found in other Asian cuisines. This YouTube channel might be of some use - https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCDbZvuDA_tZ6XP5wKKFuemQ. If you're dead set on only cooking up East Asian style food though, maybe try this channel instead - https://m.youtube.com/user/marystestkitchen.
