nickisnoble··on Show HN: Shadcn/pro – Advanced Next 15 and React 19 SaaS starter kit
maybe should have actually waited for that promise to resolve before promoting with someone else's literal handle.
nickisnoble··on Organic Software Directory
I made this! Thanks for posting.

It's the early days – literally working on basic notifications right now.

But I've already heard multiple times that someone discovered new software through it, which is fantastic.

Also, it's averaging ~40 unique hits a day, and rising.

Find a way to message me your email and I'll send you an invite!

nickisnoble··on React Labs: What We've Been Working On – February 2024
Yes, because those methods were actually obvious and said what they did.

Hooks are very non obvious / full of gotchas, and made react code no longer "just javascript".

nickisnoble··on InVision design collaboration services shutdown
The thing is Macaw was pretty amazing when it came out, but relaunching the same app (3?) years later, with a worse UI, and bad / forced integrations into the rest of the Invision stack – not good.
nickisnoble··on Ask HN: What's the stack for your "home-cooked meal" apps?
Rails, render, sqlite3.

Hotwire really is incredible (coming from someone who's primarily a JS dev in the past) and makes common things way easier.

The more I write ruby, it really feels like home cooking, whereas even the best JS frameworks (sveltekit + bun IMO) felt more like ...home maintenance? Plumbing?

Azure is a color, pretty common.
nickisnoble··on Where do fonts come from? Monotype, mostly
No because the point of system fonts is that whoever made your operating system has already paid the license fee to be able to render text using that typeface.

Monotype has such deals across the board.

nickisnoble··on Toki Pona: an attempted universal language with only ~120 words
That is simply fun.

Annoying that they hyped up this live keynote, and then it was all previous / pre-recorded announcements.

I figured with all the other releases, this keynote would show something really big — maybe they should've saved the databases reveal.

Instead we get "the thing we announced months ago is out of beta".

Vercel, you've been inconsiderate with my time.

nickisnoble··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (March 2023)
Helping teams reorganize / scale by embracing Conway's law and graph data.
