nexuist··on Nvidia drivers are detecting and reporting LLaMa/LLM users
This seems like it might be a hoax? Can anyone independently confirm that this is actually happening?

Seems like OP just uploaded a screenshot with no additional information. I don't want to claim that they're lying, but extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

nexuist··on FAA K-12 Airport Design Challenge in Minecraft
> could proposed airport innovations be paired with it to test how pilots feel about changes to layouts or e.g. how new runways may affect air traffic and other patterns?

This is a great idea. You could change the layout in the game and then monitor pilot behavior through e.g. VATSIM to see if it makes operations too confusing or if they can adjust easily. And if hobbyists can figure out, it should be safe for trained professionals to work with.

nexuist··on Run LLaMA and Alpaca on your computer
I don't think they mean the LLM will literally be controlling the pixels, it will just be writing the high level code that eventually controls the pixels.
nexuist··on The Twitter API is now effectively unmaintained
I think the enterprise plan is probably intended for established corporations that already pay out hundreds of thousands per month. As developers we're looking at it from the perspective of like "I want to build X on top of the twitter platform" but from their perspective it's more like "I want to sell access to my database to Pepsi and ESPN."
nexuist··on ChatGPT Is Banned in Italy
For violating GDPR and privacy regulations, to be clear, not anything related to AI xrisk or any of the other types of hysteria in online circles. It will probably be back once OpenAI updates their ToS and privacy policy.
nexuist··on 75% of the Most Played Games on Steam Are Playable on the Steam Deck
Bring back the PSP!
nexuist··on GPTweets: Generated tweets like yours with a fine-tuned GPT3 model
My friend Lewis and I worked on bringing this to life last week. GPTweets works by using the Twitter API to read the last few thousand tweets of yours, and then fine-tunes a Davinci model off of your most successful tweets. The end result is hilarious and also surprisingly insightful.

Training fine tuned Davinci models is expensive ($0.50-4 per user), so we are offering this as a paid service. The cheapest option is a one-time payment of $5.99 for 250 tweets.

Please enjoy!

nexuist··on The first Geely was a fake Mercedes-Benz E-Class based on a real Audi 100
You should take a look at $TSLA...
nexuist··on Ask HN: What type of lawyer can review consultant agreements?
I take it you've never hired legal counsel before
nexuist··on Stadia employees learned of shutdown just minutes before public
...are you forgetting basically everyone involved with Stadia takes home >$100,000/year? These are not exactly coal miners here. Everyone with any kind of software career has worked on a project that got canned.
nexuist··on Building a back end using only OpenAI Codex
It's not reasoning like a human, but if it's using code it memorized from the past it might be able to string along comments it memorized from the past into something that is relevant for the context it's being asked for.
nexuist··on Building a back end using only OpenAI Codex
> I can't say "why did it apply CORS to the entire flask app?" and expect reasoning that will fulfill my objective as a reviewer.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but can't you just ask the AI to include a comment explaining why it chose to apply CORS to the entire app? You can just keep asking it questions and maybe its reasoning would check out for most of them.

nexuist··on V-memo a new directive to improve your Vue 3 app performance
If the machine could do it you wouldn't need to use a directive for it. It's not like Vue is doing no optimization at all behind the scenes; there's just only so much you can do that will still allow the developer to maintain 100% confidence in the framework.
nexuist··on Ask HN: Google Search down?
Tbh the source code of the whole internet would probably be a few PB at most, text is really cheap to store especially because it can be compressed. Images and videos are what makes the premise impossible because even with perfect compression you need an impossible amount of storage to store every video published by mankind.
nexuist··on You can‘t take the Bar exam if your laptop is too modern
Or maybe blame the California Bar for partnering with such amateur vendors when they had millions of competent technology companies to pick from?
nexuist··on Keep calm and use the runbook
Who needs to look at their owner's manual in an emergency? Nearly 99% of car manuals collect dust in the glovebox. Now that I think about it, I have never not even once seen someone pull a manual out of their glovebox. The only person that I know that has even read through the first few pages is myself, because I used to read my parents' manuals when I got bored as a kid.
nexuist··on Oil Wells Hidden in Plain Sight in L.A
As the Mythbusters so generously taught us, "the only difference between screwing around and science is writing it down."
nexuist··on My experience getting a tech job with no degree or relevant work experience
No, these people are being paid what they're worth. It's everyone below them that is getting stiffed for pay.

If your company has >$100B market cap, there is literally no reason why you shouldn't be paying juniors $100k starting at least. If you work on a platform bringing in billions of dollars of revenue per quarter, you deserve to reap the rewards.

nexuist··on SpaceX avoided a Russian jamming attack in Ukraine
It's a war...they're not going to publicize exact methodology or characteristics used for national security purposes.
nexuist··on SpaceX avoided a Russian jamming attack in Ukraine
Worst case scenario? This is the most average case scenario you could hope for.
nexuist··on 27 years ago I accidentally ran the hardest, strangest Easter egg hunt
Do things that don't scale ;)
nexuist··on Tesla's charging ports use a standard msg to open on 315MHz and can be replayed
I also believe this is not an issue right now, but I'll throw this out to ponder:

Since supercharging is paid and tied to the VIN, that implies that there is some kind of data transfer occurring between the vehicle and the charging station, right? It's not just a dumb terminal connection.

Given that this is the case, could a theoretical exploit use that data connection to gain access to the vehicle and e.g. unlock the doors? Since any common criminal can open the charging port with this exploit, they could also plug in a fake charger to weaponize the exploit and drive away with a free car.

Yeah, I know, sounds pretty ridiculous. But these are expensive cars and it might be reality soon enough similar to how common thieves can buy replay attack devices on the black market now.

nexuist··on Difficult situation on campus: traffic jam of food delivery robots
A weird example of false equivalency, as no one would in their right mind compare helping a human being (who may be busy studying or have trouble walking) get their food on time with helping a robot assist in increasing profit margins for <insert random corporation>.
nexuist··on A 13-year-old used my artificial nose to diagnose pneumonia
Wonder where she got that from?
nexuist··on Things Delta told the SEC about its SkyMiles program
Airlines have historically been cash poor. It's extremely difficult to make an airline profitable, and demand fluctuates wildly due to weather, oil prices, world conflicts, etc.

nexuist··on France to Build Six New Nuclear Reactors
I am an ignorant prick, and if the powers that be had chosen to exploit poor people mining uranium instead of poor people mining coal 40 years ago, we would have avoided billions of metric tons of CO2 and saved millions of poor peoples' lives.
nexuist··on France to Build Six New Nuclear Reactors
Great job moving those goal posts when your original premise was called out.

What exactly do you want France to do in Niger to atone for their sins? Build infrastructure, fund businesses, make deals with their government? In other words, you want to solve colonialism with more colonialism?

nexuist··on Node.js adds support for direct registry-less HTTPS imports
Is it though? I remember injecting <php> tags in the middle of JS scripts to fill out variable values. I'm sure someone somewhere was using PHP to inject conditionally dependent JavaScript onto their page. Is that much different from Next rendering a React component on the backend, injecting it into HTML, and then injecting its corresponding component state into the JS bundle?
nexuist··on Node.js adds support for direct registry-less HTTPS imports
PHP got ridiculed for years for doing all the things all the other popular frameworks are coming around to support now. Server side rendering is particularly hilarious because it's like: oh, you're compiling .jsx files to .html now? Cool....can't imagine anyone ever did that before...
nexuist··on SSH into private machines from anywhere using Cloudflare Tunnel
Why is it always the free software people who are the most judgemental about what I do with my software and who I trust with my time and money? AWS and Microsoft never gave a shit about what other vendors I'm in bed with.

I like your GNU license, I do not like your GNU license people.
