Wow, what an article. Absolutely heartbreaking. My mother-in-law is going through treatment for sarcoma right now, and I found myself wondering if she mirrors any of this thinking.
What a fantastic idea. As a new mother, I cannot tell you how nice this would have been to get from the hospital. Luckily, the nurses we had were fantastic, and I had an older sister who gave me many hand me down materials. Some of the materials she gave, I had no idea what to do with, but because I had them, I asked, and they turned out to be extremely helpful. I can only imagine how a box like this could help a less educated, or person with less economic means than I had. Way to go Finland.
Just an FYI, the German word for naked is "nackt", not to be confused with "nacht", which means night. Which might not seem important, unless you, like my sister in law, accidentally signed up for a "nackt wandelen" or "naked hike", as opposed to a "night hike" at her daughter's university (Freie Universität Berlin) when she went to visit her last year.
Fortunately her daughter saw the mistake long before they attempted to attend. I can only imagine the scene had she not discovered the mistake before showing up!!! :)
This is fascinating. I'm extremely curious about the technology. How big are the drones, and how can they carry enough insecticide to cover a large area? Drones make sense to replace laboour-intensive and potentially harmful traditional backpack sprayers. I am curious as to affordability of this type of technology, and use outside of Asia. Can anyone point me in the right direction to read up on North American use?
Agreed. As a veteran at my company. I am usually more than happy to help when a newcomer or (dare I say underling) that is gifted, creative, or enthusiastic seeks help or guidance. If that individual however, hasn't done their homework, don't expect me to do it for you. Approach me as a colleague and I'm less likely to view you as a brown-noser. Some of my favorite co-workers are those who have come to me with new ideas initially. Our field is one that thrives on innovation, when the proper track has been laid.
I appreciate this honest statement. I work daily with individuals with mental disabilities including psychosis, memory dysfunction, and perceptional disturbances, and can certainly agree from what I have subjectively seen. (Though also longitudinally as I have viewed medical records extensively over years and years of research). I have witnessed secondhand that higher doses and earlier use of THC are more likely to produce anxiety, agitation, paranoia, and psychosis. Dr. Volkow's research at footnote 8 of this statement is spot on, and your comment seems to support his findings.
Yeah, sorry it's a bit old, but I came across it in some of my reading today regarding the San Francisco attempt to ban facial recognition software with an ordinance passed back in in May and didn't see it had ever been shared. Thought it was worth passing along. Cheers, just food for thought.
Trying to outlaw is such overkill. Let the rider simply turn off the device. The Taxi and Limousine Commission are grasping at straws and will do anything to fight rideshare programs.
Just wanted to add another kudos for making habitat for mason bees available. They're great little pollinators, and are native to north america. (Assuming you're in North America)
Looks like a subjective hobby farmer blog. Not meant to be an expert. I can appreciate the piece, but would rather see more research, and less anecdotal or subjective information.
I've read (and experienced with my Carnolians) that oxalic acid treatments can sometimes take more toll than the mites themselves. Any thoughts about this? Have you had any causalities with its use?
Appreciate this point of view, but it isn't just about over-stress. Varroa mites are a real problem. As a hobby apiarist myself, the influx of varroa mites has wreaked havoc on my bee colonies. Having read much of what is being done at the University of Sasketchwan, I am excited about a varroa mite-resistant breed. http://www.saskatraz.com/articles/New/The%20Saskatraz%20hybr...
I have read other studies by Dr. Angelika Doetzlhofer, and she is brilliant. I am heavily involved with disability law, and have had two very close associates who have received treatment aimed at inner-ear hair stimulation for balance issues. The study of molecular impediments to mammalian hair cell regeneration could not only change lives for those who have hearing loss, but also for those who suffer from balance issues. Thank you for the share!
I may get pooh poohed here, but to me, this discussion is one of a spiritual nature. My belief is that God created all things spiritually first, before he created them physically. And, God is what gives all life it's sentience. Understanding the brain is only part f the equation. The soul of man (and woman) is both the physical body (including the brain) and the spirit. Until we can fully grasp the spiritual, we will never be able to make the "leap" between paper and conscience. Anyone else feel this way?
I'm betting that an FTC antitrust probe will have no effect on other nations using FB. I lived in Brazil, and it was typically a year or two behind the trending here in the US. While US use of FB is down in their previous major demographics, it is spiking internationally.
There is absolutely no way for the DMCA to keep up with the growth that may flow under it! How anyone expects the AG to prosecute every illegal infringer or posessor of illegal numbers is beyond me. There is a good article at https://www.natlawreview.com/article/digital-millennium-copy...
