I use older Brother laserjet printers that I bought secondhand. A pack of 2 off-brand toner cartridges are about $20 on ebay.
Enough people are dumb enough to overpay for ink that HP stays in business. Jailing a CEO won't cure stupidity.

The difference between then and now is staggering. The mentality is if you can't make people smarter just lower the standards.
The reality is perhaps the top 15% of the US population by IQ should be receiving a college education. The rest is just credentialism and a waste of societal resources.
The government of California is the reason housing is so expensive in the first place. Now they toss a token amount of money at a problem they created.
It's similar to how the US government pays billions to corn farmers to produce corn syrup, which then causes obesity, which the government spends millions to address.
And it isn't going to be a high tech utopia, because a small group at the top is going to capture 95% of the wealth generated.
I would predict serious social unrest. The problem is people won't understand why they don't have jobs, so they will blame x country or z group for their problems which will lead to extremism.
I would argue many of the major historical events in the US, such as civil war, great depression, WW2, great recession were actually connected to automation requiring a reset of society.
Any jobs or government revenue created from gambling come at the expense of productive activities, while simultaneously creating social problems from addiction and crime.
I hate the term gambling. It isn't a gamble for the state lotto that sets mathematical payouts that ensure a certain percent profit, nor is it a gamble for the casino owner with his slot machines.
AI will be able to create its own new iterations of data which it can then train on. It will never run out of material and in fact will start generating new data at a rate far faster than the whole of humanity.
This has already been proven with AlphaGo.
The average cost per year of ink would be shown and whether aftermarket cartridges are accepted.
The average person buys because they see the initial cheap cost. It is a bait and switch that is terrible for the environment.
Even worse, HP runs green washing ads on YouTube about printing trees.
Years ago, I switched over to Brother laserjets that accept aftermarket cartridges. Never worry about printing costs.
Many traditional vaccines contain live, weakened bacteria or viruses, (or dead ones which can become active) which can actually kill someone.
mRNA uses a natural mechanicism for protein synthesis to create proteins that the body recognizes as foreign. The immune system then develops a response. So if a virus containing that protein enters the body in the future, you already know to attack it.
People don't understand what a game changer this technology is for human health.
What I don't understand is why a company can use $2 an hour labor and then sell a product for $1K.
If I ran the US, I would put heavy tariffs on goods that companies try to outsource for cheap labor.
This would encourage them to use technology and robotics to produce domestically.
The California project is designed for political payoffs sadly, so it is functioning as intended.
People don't understand how big and empty space is, even around our planet.
The only people it might impact are amateur astronomers, who aren't exactly making discoveries anymore.
