neur4lnet··on On-Sets: A Vintage Set Theory Game
This is incredible. I copied and pasted your description into ChatGPT:

he game you're describing sounds like "Zendo," which is a game of inductive logic designed by Kory Heath. In Zendo, players use colored plastic pieces called "Icehouse pyramids" that come in different sizes and colors. The moderator, or "Master," creates a secret rule and builds two structures, one that follows the rule (marked with a white stone) and one that doesn't (marked with a black stone). The players, or "Students," then take turns building new structures and asking the Master if they follow the rule or not. The goal is for the Students to correctly guess the secret rule by observing the examples and counterexamples provided by the Master.

neur4lnet··on Google “Pepper”: When a Brand Becomes More Popular Than the Meaning of the Word
There's something fundamentally concerning with this response:

"Things like this can change over time, brands can become stronger than the original meaning of a word even."

The implication being that in that region, US, more people think of bras than condiments/fruit when they think of pepper. That Google is just reflecting the state of the world. That seems like bullshit to me.

Made worse by the fact that enough people use Google that the opposite is more likely to be true.

Google's search got gamed by Pepper SEO, the US is not suddenly more more interested in a underwear brand than the food.

neur4lnet··on Amazon’s Kindle Scribe is an E Ink tablet for reading and writing
Its not a huge deal, but I certainly strongly prefer to have USB C nowadays. I travel a lot and having a single type of cable is a real convenience. I tend to take an octopus cable (with type C, Micro and lighting) to fill the gaps, but when laptop, headphones, phone, tablet, power bank, gps; all use one type and Kindle uses another...

Suffice it to say I'm looking forward to the time when USB C is ubiquitous, even though it has some short comings.

I wouldn't buy another Kindle just for USB C though.

neur4lnet··on Angular 13
Why do you think that is?
neur4lnet··on I was rejected by Codecademy three times, so I built my own
I had never realised that codecademy wasn't codeacadamy. Oops.
neur4lnet··on Alec Baldwin “Discharged” Prop Gun Killing Cinematographer, Injuring Director
That is only true for automatic firearms, and only partially true for them.

Usually the modifications are reducing the strength of the springs, or enlarging the gas port. There's really no reason to ad "valves" or anything in the barrel its self.

Given the time period of the movie, an automatic firearm is unlikely anyway, so I'd be inclined to think that this is not the case.

neur4lnet··on Why soda bottles have gaps in their threads (2000)
Also, many thermos flasks have a feature whereby you can pour out the contents without unscrewing the lid all the way, so there will be a large channel interrupting the threads to allow liquid out, and one or more opposing interruptions to let air in.

>>> (and makes one wonder how many other little details like this there are in daily life products that we'll never even know about).

That's what I find most interesting about things like that. They are everywhere and its a joy to find them.

neur4lnet··on What Is the Data Lakehouse Pattern?
"Lakes are typically stored on low cost Object Storage such as AWS S3 where the data is more open."

What does that mean?

neur4lnet··on New UUID Formats – IETF Draft
Its compression a legitimate concern for primary keys?
neur4lnet··on The insides of pro bowling balls
This seems more like an advertisement than a popular science article, which is a huge shame as it's an interesting topic.
neur4lnet··on The Adafruit Feather and FeatherWing System
Is there a reason that the main board is a feather and the daughter boards are wings?

I would have expected 1 wing to have many feathers, not the other way around.
