netrap··on Owners mourn spoiled food after firmware update bricks Samsung smart fridges
makes me wonder maybe if NFC/RFID strips were cheap enough you could have all the items tagged in the house and your phone could tell you what you have.. but probably causes e-waste though
netrap··on Autistici/Inventati's main .org domain goes dark after US terrorism designation
That makes the most sense to me. Although, I don't know if .org is subject to US law specifically? Is it?
netrap··on An ongoing 3D-printer AGPL violation
I think it's reached commodity status instead of community... 3D printing I mean. At that point only thing that matters is ease of use, price, and quality of the result. People who are not _in_ the community but use the tool.
netrap··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
Maybe this is the purpose of it? To keep us working like cattle.

netrap··on What we call "age verification" is actually mass surveillance
Perfect is the enemy of the good, right? I mean a page header or some other simple means to identify "adult" vs not is good for most cases? Just thinking about it.. obviously it can be bypassed but is there a good enough?

FreeBSD does not have a desktop installer yet.. the powerpoint alludes to that being a coming feature though.. I think people here should chill out about her not using FreeBSD as the daily driver.. I use FreeBSD daily in my work, but no, I don't on desktop...
netrap··on Why is Vivado 2026.1 dropping Linux support for free tier?
I wonder if they will come to their senses and revert the decision? It does seem a bit boneheaded to drop Linux support on the Basic tier... What actual reason would they need to do that?
netrap··on As researchers age, they produce less disruptive work
Interesting analogy but there are many old people in Casinos...
netrap··on When everyone has AI and the company still learns nothing
It's not about that, it's about the incentive...
netrap··on Microsoft Edge stores all passwords in memory in clear text, even when unused
So you decrypt each time you need it? What is the difference in the attack surface?
netrap··on I Spent My Sabbatical Building a Power Meter for Sledgehammers
Intel at one time did 6 month sabbatical if you worked 10 years.
netrap··on Direct Win32 API, weird-shaped windows, and why they mostly disappeared
Is it not the fact that Win32 is not the dominant platform anymore? It would be mobile phones now, right?
netrap··on SpaceX files to go public
Getting goods and people over there, I guess..
netrap··on We haven't seen the worst of what gambling and prediction markets will do
We ban other drugs though? Just saying that we DO ban things already...

Only skimmed it but remember dmoz.org? I think having a web directory again is a cool idea..
netrap··on WFH is becoming a benefit again
Do companies give a crap about employees spending money on gas? I mean maybe for those that are traveling salesmen or something... but otherwise I don't see how it would bring it back...

Death to Scroll Bar size change!!!

Emulating NE2000 is great :)

netrap··on Amazon is ending all inventory commingling as of March 31, 2026
It seems like it is easy to get good reviews on some product then just switch the product completely different. Do they not have ways to prevent that??
netrap··on Ask HN: Anyone have a good solution for modern Mac to legacy SCSI converters?
There are some Firewire SCSI adapters. Sometimes older Firewire tape drives have internal SCSI to Firewire boards. I've used them to with old SCSI CD drives.
