netram88··on Jump Trading sues 79-year-old Carl Sagan fan over wormhole.com domain
>It seems smarmy to quote an offer price without a sincere intent to sell.

Merryman is 79, and receiving emails about selling the domain he's owned for decades. He has never asked for these emails, and just wants to be left alone. He throws a highball offer, hoping they'll go away. He then clarifies that he doesn't want to sell, which he is of course fully allowed to do. Then they sue him.

I would say there are smarmy actions in here, but not on the part of Merryman.

netram88··on Nuclear power looks to regain its footing 10 years after Fukushima
I don't see how this can be the case, if you know more than me, please elaborate.

My reason for not seeing how this could be the case is that there is no reasonable entity that would be funding this conspiracy. Nuclear has been smeared since Chernobyl, and the nuclear industry barely breaks even. They certainly don't have enough money for something like this. Also, why would this mysterious entity be funding bad faith arguers on internet forums, instead of lobbyists, which would probably be a much more effective way of promoting nuclear.

Is this a joke? I'm sometimes unsure in the digital medium.

Although this in itself is a minor issue, it shows that you can't put your trust in these kinds of automatic fact aggregators.

netram88··on The Tech Monopolies Go Vertical
Isn't that exactly what the average person has wanted out of a computer for a long time though?

Most people never change anything in their system, and know little more than exactly what they need to do the specific tasks they want to do (writing documents, photo storage, e.t.c) An appliance like system where "it just works" and you never need to understand any of the structure or fiddle with the computer in any way is probably exactly what a lot of people want.

"No hard feelings, it's just business"
netram88··on How satellite ‘megaconstellations’ will photobomb astronomy images
What I'm concerned about is how much the launching of tens of thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of satellites will affect our ability to launch things out of orbit. Launch windows are already very precisely calculated, and the more junk we put in orbit the harder that will become.
