netizen-936824··on FairEmail stopping development after Google falsely flags app as spyware
The biggest spyware vendor? What role is Microsoft playing here?
netizen-936824··on Plastic-eating enzyme could eliminate billions of tons of landfill waste
Did I miss something? What organism are you referring to?

An enzyme is a protein not an organism

netizen-936824··on All Those Celebrities Pushing Crypto Are Not So Vocal Now
Celebrities and influencers are literally just paid shills. That's how they make a large portion of their income, through advertising. Of course they aren't personally invested
netizen-936824··on Scientists Figure Out Why Female Octopuses Self-Destruct After Laying Eggs
Sometimes, the how is the why
netizen-936824··on Framedeck: A Cyberdeck built with the framework mainboard
Some religious people seem to like making things about religion just to be able to talk about it from my experience. Although this is also true for other subjects as well if the person is invested in the topic enough
netizen-936824··on Researchers Claim Serum Albumin Increases Mouse Lifespan
Were those discussions about proteins in general misfolding or specifically serum albumin? This is an important distinction, many conversations I've overheard from those not in a bio field seem to gloss over vital details
netizen-936824··on Human genetic engineering is coming
You seem to be assuming that human selection is not natural

Humans are natural, we are part of nature

netizen-936824··on Netflix tells employees they may need to work on titles they perceive as harmful
Do ethics matter or mean anything if we just start changing them to fit the situation?
netizen-936824··on You're Not Losing Fat Because You're Eating Too Damn Much (2016)
I am not a physician. You don't need to worry about protein intake damaging kidneys unless you have preexisting kidney problems.
netizen-936824··on ICE Is a Domestic Surveillance Agency
HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF IMMIGRANTS TAKING OUR JOBS
netizen-936824··on WorkOS – Building blocks for quickly adding enterprise features to an app
I don't understand how you can say

>values, etc are distilled into an “OS”.

When its literally not an Operating System. Its an application, no? It runs in user space on top of a real Operating System

netizen-936824··on Elon Musk says Twitter banning Trump was “morally wrong and flat-out stupid”
>illegal or otherwise just destructive to the world

Emphasis mine, that word "or" is pretty important. In this context, it means that twitter will remove things they are not compelled to by law as long as they (twitter) feels that the statement is sufficiently "destructive" (whatever that means)

netizen-936824··on Exorcism is something we can’t quite quit
What does you mean by "the brain is mosaic"?
netizen-936824··on California Is Trying to Force an Automobile Outcome
Signed, Conservatives
netizen-936824··on Neoliberalism has resulted in preference for greater income inequality
The problem could be solved by simply discussing definitions at the start of a debate, there's no need to come up with new vocabulary.
netizen-936824··on Neoliberalism has resulted in preference for greater income inequality
That's a great quote from Fred Brooks, thank you for sharing! Do you happen to know where its from?
netizen-936824··on Complexity Is the Mind Killer
I've learned that maintenance is way more important for most of my use cases. Most people aren't doing stuff that requires real-time processing so my assumption is that maintenance is more important for most others as well
netizen-936824··on A Hepatitis Mystery
So that sounds like there are characteristics of the etiology of viral-hep as opposed to non-viral which don't appear in this case of hepncaused by a virus? I'm not very familiar with the subject
netizen-936824··on Neoliberalism has resulted in preference for greater income inequality
This is actually where a shitload of disagreement and misunderstanding comes from. Due to peoples different perspectives, people have varying definitions of various terms. This makes discussing heated topics like politics super difficult because the people with different perspectives fundamentally generally don't understand the definitions used by the other and assumptions are made leading to disagreement
netizen-936824··on The ACLU Has Lost Its Way
I read the wikipedia article on SPLC briefly and asked a clarifying question

Thank you for clarifying, it sounds like the organisation has changed recently

netizen-936824··on The ACLU Has Lost Its Way
I looked up SPLC on wikipedia, read what they do, and asked a clarifying question.

For this, my original comment now is at -3

netizen-936824··on Study: Immigrants in the U.S. are more likely to start firms, create jobs
Yea that's why you make abortion and contraceptives illegal. Problem solved, no need for those brown people to boost our numbers!
netizen-936824··on Study: Immigrants in the U.S. are more likely to start firms, create jobs
NO gasp
netizen-936824··on Longer elected terms would lead to better government?
Apologies, I misunderstood your original comment
netizen-936824··on Longer elected terms would lead to better government?
I think someone is going to have to come up with some actual scholarly citations, because you and the top commenter to which I am referring are explicitly disagreeing and up until this point all anyone has done is make baseless assertions
netizen-936824··on Longer elected terms would lead to better government?
Really? Because the top comment to which you replied stated:

>This is a problem as old as thought itself. One of the worlds first philosophers, Plato, wrote a book about it. He agreed, the best form of government is one where the terms are longer.

netizen-936824··on Exorcism is something we can’t quite quit
Unsubstantiated claims about the supernatural. Cool.
netizen-936824··on Longer elected terms would lead to better government?
Oh, because the US has long terms implemented currently?
netizen-936824··on Ask HN: How to Monetize Open-Source Software?
I agree with the required effort needed, but doesn't it only take one person to fork it? Once that fork is out there and maintained, the obvious choice for most people would be to use the free fork
netizen-936824··on Monsanto’s ghostwriting to influence science and media
Even if Monsanto is trying to influence reporting, that doesn't mean that the criticism against GMO is automatically correct. That doesn't even make sense

The previous commenters are talking about the criticism of GMO in which GMO organisms are suddenly killing babies because there's corn making fish proteins. The criticisms literally don't make sense from a biochemical mechanism standpoint, and the previous commenters are pointing this out.

That means that the previous commenters are standing up for scientific integrity while you come along saying "big company bad, therefore everything big company says is lie"
