Brilliant.
netfl0··on Apple broke up with me
I also found this story quite unsettling. Glad I’m not alone.
netfl0··on RSS is wonderful
This makes me miss Web 1.0.

netfl0··on James Webb Telescope – 29 Days on the Edge
This is exciting!
netfl0··on Hackernews.com
I think they have a lot of money.
netfl0··on The Great Re-Evaluation – Robert Reich
TLDL:

People don’t like mind numbing or back breaking jobs.

Claims we are having social revolution.

We have no unions.

Pandemic showed people they are free to do something different.

Reiterates social revolution.

—

I think people are more cognizant of their return on time. The market will need to pay what the workers will accept. Note prices today...

I don’t think labor price renegotiations constitute a social revolution in the historical sense of the phrase. Maybe a small one.

netfl0··on Doomsday Prep for the Super-Rich (2017)
One of my favs, hit too close to home in some cases...

Side note, this article appears to be removed from the front page now... interesting.

netfl0··on Doomsday Prep for the Super-Rich (2017)
Why is this nectar for HN? When I saw the headline I just knew it would rocket to the top.

Serious question.

netfl0··on Open source is coming to financial services
Bob nailed it for sure. This approach works.
netfl0··on 1500 Archers on a 28.8: Network Programming in Age of Empires and Beyond (2001)
I’ve been waiting 20 years for this article.

I used to have 28.8. I’d play this game for hours on there!

I was always in awe this ever worked, even more so over time as software has become more complex….

netfl0··on On the internet, we’re always famous
I don’t think we’ve ever seen such large scale systematically created narcissism. Who knows what the effects will be.

Major science experiment.

netfl0··on What our research says about teen well-being and Instagram
Not sure why this is being downvoted.

What percentage of alcoholics would say alcohol makes them feel better.

netfl0··on What our research says about teen well-being and Instagram
The post says the slide was missing context by stating it was only girls who already had body issues.

Numerous studies show a lot of girls have body image issues. Further, in this post they don’t even indicate what the “correct” percentage might be.

I don’t really get their point. What am I missing?

netfl0··on How to make housing more affordable
Nice to see a fresh perspective.

High density appears to create fragility. People were fleeing from cities during covid.

netfl0··on JSON Schema bundling formalised
Reinventing JSON-LD.
netfl0··on Ask HN: What are your thoughts on the r/collapse community
If the indicators are ambiguous, how would you know when to be worried? Honestly curious.
netfl0··on PathQuery, Google's Graph Query Language
Can someone explain why they did not mention SPARQL CONSTRUCT statements? I struggle with the notion that SPARQL isn’t “graphy” per their assertion.

I may be missing something though.

netfl0··on Zshelf: Z-Library books downloader for reMarkable tablet
None of what this guy is saying is a problem for me. I have no idea what this jagged lines issue is.

I would say this is radically not locked down. You can ssh it!

If they tried to accommodate custom “mods” it could crash their updates. I don’t want them spending dev cycles on such an accommodation.

Besides my desktop computer, this is the best technology purchase I’ve ever made. I continue to use it for practical things.

netfl0··on Farmers are having to hack their own tractors to make repairs
"Midwest farmers face a crisis. Hundreds are dying by suicide."

"But U.S. farmers are saddled with near-record debt, declaring bankruptcy at rising rates and selling off their farms amid an uncertain future clouded by climate change and whipsawed by tariffs and bailouts."

netfl0··on Turn to RSS Feeds to Regain Control of the World Wide Web
How many technologists on this site are responsible for the death of RSS.

Shame on you people.

netfl0··on Why not use GraphQL?
I think even the name overstates its capabilities. Compared to something like sparql it is a comically limited language only suited for front end syntax sugar, which is fine. But let’s not pretend that it’s going to change the world in a Michael Jackson sorta way.
netfl0··on The rise of platonic co-parenting
Yes I am aware, did my comment suggest otherwise?
netfl0··on The rise of platonic co-parenting
This article presents a false dichotomy. There is nothing preventing these two people from hating each other and having some divorce-like custody hearing. It may even be more likely, there is no data on this new “approach”.
netfl0··on Banks, QE, and Money-Printing
Excellent summary of reality. Why do you think people seem to ignore or not understand these basic facts?
netfl0··on Average UX Improvements Are Shrinking over Time
I had a negative gut reaction. It was mostly autonomous, if there was a problem or high stress situation, this quote is concerning:

Hurley and Behnken worked with SpaceX to "refine the way that you interface with the touchscreen and the way your touch is actually registered on the display in order to be able to fly it cleanly and not make mistakes touching it," Hurley said.

Scary imo.

netfl0··on Average UX Improvements Are Shrinking over Time
Yes I have been following those stories and it is very promising, it’s nice to see folks who are able to course correct.
netfl0··on Average UX Improvements Are Shrinking over Time
I can’t say I’m surprised by this. The last real large scale UI paradigm shift was the iPhone’s multitouch display. UX is going to follow UI capabilities and form factors.

In the automotive space I’d argue there has been a UX regression as they went pure touch screen for some models.

netfl0··on Chrome unlikely to support XPath 3.1
I can’t tell if this was a serious response, I am not trying to pull your leg.
netfl0··on Chrome unlikely to support XPath 3.1
Have they proposed an alternative?
netfl0··on The story of the PDF (2018)
There was a period of time when I thought PDF’s days were numbered. That was over a decade ago.

There is now first class support in many applications. I don’t think it’s going anywhere.
