nerfbatplz··on Canadian government banning Flipper Zero to combat auto theft
Is it even possible to use a flipper zero to steal a car? I thought modern cars have rotating keys which would prevent a replay attack unless you had access to the fob long enough to figure out the seed in which case you may as well just use the key to open the car.

They steal cars by either breaking a window or by getting to the CAN bus through the bumper and hijacking the car by programming a new key using the car's VIN. Ban Toyota and Honda from selling cars with shitty security if you want to do anything about this problem without having to ask the police to be useful.

nerfbatplz··on 95% of container ships are now going around the Southern Tip of Africa
They’ve been at the sharp end of Uncle Sam’s finest munitions for a decade, they have earned the right to hate America. They haven’t attacked any other countries, they haven’t even killed anyone in any of their ship attacks.
nerfbatplz··on 95% of container ships are now going around the Southern Tip of Africa
You’ve drunk the western propaganda kool-aid.

The only actor in the Red Sea conflict who has killed anyone is the US. The Houthis have successfully attacked multiple ships and not killed a single person.

And that’s besides the fact that they have been extremely clear that they are only targeting Israeli-linked ships. Plenty of ships have gone through unmolested by broadcasting No Contact Israel as they do so.

The big companies know this they’re only not going through because of insurance issues.

Micheal Lewis’ best book Flashboys is about the birth of HFT but it’s been in development hell for years. According to Lewis Hollywood wouldn’t green light it because the main character is an Asian man.
nerfbatplz··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2023)
Man you guys must have the worlds most stringent job requirements, I applied months ago and was rejected without an interview and you're still hiring for the same role. Crazy
nerfbatplz··on The Disappointment of 5G
Finally someone who understands.

The benefits of 5G have nothing to do with your cellphone service and everything to do with enabling connected infrastructure that could not be done with LTE.

nerfbatplz··on The Disappointment of 5G
Network slicing allows critical bandwidth usage to be prioritized absolutely. Can’t do that with LTE.

Not to mention the sheer density of connections that can be serviced by a 5G radio over an LTE radio.

nerfbatplz··on Ask HN: Why is TSMC so competitive in semiconductor fabrication?
Is that not obvious? The US State department is pretty clear about their self-serving intentions.
nerfbatplz··on A Phoenix record store owner set the audiophile world on fire
Not only can you not tell the difference between analogue and digital, you also cannot tell the difference between lossless and properly transcoded MP3.

Most audiophile mania is poorly informed at best and astrology at worst.

nerfbatplz··on New in Git: switch and restore
Except for 99% of all git day to day tasks are done with like 7 commands.

Git commit

Git checkout

Git merge

Git pull

Git push

Git rebase

Git stash

I can’t remember I needed a command that wasn’t one of those and I exclusively use the cli.

Considering Hubble was an old NRO design that they donated, I bet there are more backup parts than are publically known to be available.
